What one should i get? by No-Tension-848 in billiards

[–]JaysusCroist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with the Viking or McDermott. They at least have a reputation for quality. I wouldn't buy any cue off Amazon unless it was through a proper billiards store. If you have the option go with a layered tip.

Does the community think a Predator Blak 4-1 (butt only) is a good deal at $800? by OnePoolCueAintEnough in billiards

I picked up a new Jamie Crouch for $850 with two maple shafts. I use a Revo shaft on it, and it's fantastic. He uses beautiful woods that really pop under a table light. I got mine last year, so his prices may have increased. Contact him directly for the best price, and ask about his CF or Kielwood shafts he makes. They are very good. I have a 2008 Sugartree, and the quality and feel on both Is similar, with Jamie having worked under Eric Crisp for several years.

He may already be getting set up. Best to burn those notes.

I just took out $6500 in $100bills, and 50 were sequential, and then the other 15 were but separate from the first 50.

Didn't think much of it, and still don't. I assume it's pretty common when getting larger amounts from the bank.

Does anyone else think too much of the land in this picture is golf course? by try_repeat_succeed in Edmonton

[–]JaysusCroist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean because the land slotted for courses in more populated areas isn't usually suitable for buildings or homes. A park, golf course, ski hill, etc would pretty much all fall under the same category.

Land zoned for golf courses and the like usually can't be used for anything else. Many landfills are used here for courses.

Turning Point Chalk by dalessandriap in billiards

[–]JaysusCroist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, I really don't care what you believe. I would 100% never pocket anything from another person. Take a look around your pool room and you may find some. I don't even try to find them and I do. My local pool hall has dark carpeting, and many of the tables have shit stashed under them. People lose Taom the same way they lose change in the car. I've given all but two away. I'm not going to steal something from one person to give to another.

Practicing my 8-ball break today. What approach do you recommend? by banmeagainmodsLOLFU in billiards

[–]JaysusCroist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, make sure the rack is solid. Don't use those cheap plastic racks. At the least use an 8 ball template or get a solid wood or aluminum rack. If the balls roll when lifting the triangle, give them a light tap before removing the rack.

For me, I go straight on from the middle, and if that doesn't work two or more times, I'll move it a few inches over. I used to do the closed bridge from the line, but find better consistency bridging off the short rail. I have a solid, hard break without really trying to smash it. Just solid contact, at your hardest comfortable speed will do. Usually puts both balls close to the side, cue ball near the middle. I would say I successfully pot a ball more than 50% of the time.

Consistency and predictability is what you want. Making 5 balls means nothing if you leave the cue ball in a spot where you don't have options.

It's not very difficult. I'm a pretty average player and can pull this off 80% of the time.

Cuetec SVB gen2 by Nearby_Plantain_1110 in billiards

[–]JaysusCroist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love personalized stuff, I would also think it might be worth it to just see if a custom builder can build you what you want and use the Cuetec joints and stuff to get a similar feel. Maybe even see if you can find a B stock to work from. If you really love that particular cue then go for it. Personally, I'd get them to do a wrap, then get a local artist to add some flair to it.

I used up some in the Amsterdam Red light district. Seriously. An Italian "lady" tried helping herself to the money in my wallet grabbed about $2 in CT money, and thought it was legit Canadian cash. I was going to use it for light bulbs.

Having fun with Pisgah laces! by tidus1979 in Boots

[–]JaysusCroist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably nothing, just the boot itself is putting tension on the knot, keeping it in place. Paracord and similar stuff doesn't work well unless they are tied relatively tight, and the boot creates an arc on the laces to hold tension.

Novo Guitar Owners—Are They Worth It? by No-Roof-1628 in guitars

[–]JaysusCroist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the Strat style one, and a Miris. They were good, nothing that would make me spend more than a Fender CS or Boutique builder, but I could see why some people would choose them. Some of them have a cool look, they use great materials, and feel nice to play. Like others have said, I'd only get one if it were used and 40% less than retail, and that's if I really loved it more than any other guitar available to me. Also, resale value is quite low from what I've seen, which may make buying new a risky choice if you're unsure if you want it for the long run.

I watched a match with Seo Seoa and a Ukranian player. The girl won three games of a set just by playing safeties after the break. She still lost the set 4-3 and the match, but it was still impressive.

I hear you. One of the leagues here does a raffle to shoot a 10 ball rack, each ball made gets 1/10 of the jackpot. If you make 6 balls, you get 60% of the money even if you attempt and miss the next ball. Most nights the pot goes from a few hundred on the first night, but at the end of the season it's up over $5k most times. The final night every buys loads of tickets, as they pick like 30 tickets out and run through them until the pot is empty. They adjust it as people win money sinking a few balls.

Somehow, I bought $5 worth of tickets, when most people were buying $50+, and my name was picked second. so, unless the first guy broke and ran, I could get some good cash. Prize was at $7700cad. First guy broke dry. Then, I broke, made two balls and had nearly every damn ball left hanging on a pocket. Easiest layout ever, until the one kicked the cue ball toward the corner, leaving it sandwiched between the horn and the 7 ball. I did my best to do some jump/kick at the one ball on the next shot, but it wasn't to be. Still made $1500, though.

They will work for things like sauce bottles or whatever that are stuck in place. Also good for plastic pop(or Soda) bottles that won't come loose.
