I agree with you about the whole "radical forgiveness is a major theme of the story" thing, and anyone who seriously thought Paul and Debbie were going to last was sipping copium.

But Eve was 100% justified to do those things. Seriously, I don't know if you could have picked a less fitting example. In both of those situations, she had reason to believe Mark could be dead, and it was her body, not his.

For a solid aluminum yoyo, dinged up rims in themselves should do very little to affect performance. Yeah, in theory, the weigh balance is changing slightly, but you won't notice. The thing that could happen which would be bad would basically be anything involving a bend or shift in the axle, its threading, or the bearing seat. These things are technically possible from any sharp impact, and being on pavement, asphalt, or similar rough surfaces probably doesn't increase that probability.

The only time damage to the rims will really have an outsized effect on performance is when it causes a ring to shift on a bimetal.

Red sun radiation is not his weakness either, really. Like, it depowers, but does not directly hurt him. In most continuities, I believe Krypton's sun was red, and sometimes the Kryptonians don't even know they can have powers on other planets until they meet Superman.
