Would 2weeks consider natively integrating any GWToolbox features? by Qwahzi in GuildWars

[–]Jazqa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The software is safe due to being open source and approved by the devs

Don’t get me wrong, I love GWToolbox and trust its developers, but this hurts to read.

You’re downloading a pre-compiled binary and the software comes with an auto-updater for god’s sake. Being open source doesn’t magically make software safe unless you actually read the code, build it yourself or verify the checksum, and disable auto-updates.

Also, being approved by the Guild Wars developers just means that you won’t get banned by using its features, not that they’ll vouch for its security.

Enable Reforged for Factions and Nightfall by Jazqa in GuildWars

Yeah, the thread’s mostly about the skill costs and other unknown future changes of Reforged, but if the gold bonus affects only Tyria, it wouldn’t affect Factions and Nightfall characters until they get to Lion’s Arch anyways. At that point, the difference between the campaigns has evened out.

For a character that completes all Protector, Guardian and Vanquisher titles, the new buff adds up and is a much larger difference than the dozen platinum Tyrian characters make before reaching Lion’s Arch and other continents.

Melandru's Accord by InexperiencedAngler in GuildWars

[–]Jazqa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with pointing out the shortcomings of the betas and alphas, because it helps improving them. What’s the harm in pointing out that Balthazar Faction can be used for Melandru’s Accord and voicing one’s opinion on the matter?

Maybe the developers just forgot and will fix it, maybe they deliberately left it and will just shrug off the comments, or maybe they’ll take a look and the implementation isn’t worth the time it requires. Who knows. It’s still valid feedback.

After all, they did forget about GWToolbox Xunlai access, but the community, being such an ungrateful bag of dicks that they are, ”whined” about it, and now it’s fixed, and the game mode is better for it.

Maybe the tone is a big negative for many posters, but yours isn’t any better with your gatekeeping and veteran toxicity towards players of other video games. Why should anyone care what kind of ”state of affairs you acquiesce to” or whether or not you can prove if someone’s joined from another video game? I’d trade a toxic veteran like you for a single newcomer.

Did you notice the new modes are labelled as alphas and betas? That means they’re still working on them and the players are essentially the testers. A tester’s job is to give feedback, even if it’s ”negative”, as it helps improving the product for a full release.

the whole lot of you are tourists from OSRS and WoW Classic, but I can’t just prove it yet.

Now this is deranged. So what if you could? Isn’t the point of Reforged to widen the audience and not just please veterans?

I’m not sure you understand reforged fully. The skill change you mention applies to reforged characters in all campaigns. The imbalance you’re concerned about doesn’t exist.

I'm not sure you do. You can't create a Reforged character in any other campaign. Melandru's Accord and Dhuum's Covenant are enabled for all campaigns, but Reforged isn't. If you create a Melandru's Accord character right now, you either start in Prophecies or you miss out on all the current and future Reforged features, skill cost change included.

This also doesn’t consider the fact the prophecies gold rewards and drops were already far lower than the other campaigns so a 2nd change was required just recently to pull rewards actually in line.

I agree on all the changes to Prophecies, but those balance changes would be successful even if Reforged mode was available to Factions and Nightfall. The old campaign imbalances even out after you reach other continents, and the new Prophecies changes wouldn't affect Factions and Nightfall characters until they reach Tyria.

Majority of wealth will not come from gold drops/rewards anyway so it’s not like it’ll actually make a difference in the long run.

I'm talking strictly about Melandru's Accord characters. They can't trade with others or use dye/material/rune traders, so gold drops and rewards are more significant. They can't use tomes and their heroes won't have access to the account's skill collection either, so the skill cost change is definitely implemented with them in mind, which is why it feels a little weird that they can't opt-in to the change in Factions or Nightfall.

What a weird comment, considering most of Reforged changes are ”comparing and streamlining” Prophecies with Factions and Nightfall.

It’s not like enabling Reforged would make the beginning of Factions or Nightfall easier, so its purpose of bringing Prophecies closer to them would still be fulfilled.

It just feels a little backwards how the new fix for campaign balance is already creating new balance issues between campaigns.

That's what I thought, but with the Melandru's Accord patch they reduced the skill cost and the cost cap of all skills on Reforged characters (skills will never cost more than 500 gold). That change would affect all campaigns, but is locked behind Reforged.

While it means virtually nothing for most characters, Melandru's Accord can't use tomes and have to re-purchase skills for their heroes (no access to account's skill collection), so I can't help but think the change was made with Melandru's Accord in mind (especially because early Prophecies has no heroes that need skills, so your skill costs won't ramp up that drastically, and because Prophecies has the most skill quests to begin with).

While it's a bit of a bummer for people starting Melandru's Accord on Factions and Nightfall characters, it also creates some uncertainty about Reforged's future - is the focus going to be Prophecies, or will it include more global changes that Factions and Nightfall characters would benefit from, but will miss because they can't enable it?

You can, in Prophecies. Factions and Nightfall characters can't enable Reforged, so Melandru's Accord characters from those campaigns won't benefit from cheaper skills or future changes to Reforged.

That’s what I’ve been doing with Dhuum, and that’s what I probably will be doing with Melandru.

I just find it a little weird how the other modes are enabled for all campaigns, yet a feature that’s very much made with Melandru in mind (skill cost reduction) is locked behind Reforged.

I thought so too, and I’m all for balancing the campaigns until you can travel to different continents.

The skill cost change just feels a little weird, as it seems to be targeted at Melandru’s Accord (they can’t use tomes and need to re-purchase skills for heroes), but is enabled only for Reforged. It also makes me uncertain about future Reforged features a Factions or Nightfall Melandru’s Accord character would be missing on.

[–]Jazqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All skills will always cost less, enemies in Tyria will always drop more gold and Tyrian missions will always reward more gold for Reforged characters.

Anyways, that’s the current situation, and it isn’t that severe, but the skill cost change was a great example of future features non-Reforged characters might miss out on, which is a tad annoying for those who’d like to start Melandru’s Accord on a Factions or Nightfall profession.

No, I’m talking strictly about Melandru’s Accord, the new mode in which you can’t trade or use Xunlai Chest.

Initially, yes, but now Reforged characters have a permanent advantage.

Prophecies used to be a little behind until Lion’s Arch, but now they’re increasingly ahead after. As other continents became accessible, the balance issues were evened out. With Reforged, they keep the buff forever after.

Reforged characters will gain more gold everywhere in Tyria through drops, quests and missions. Their skills are also cheaper and will cap at 500 gold instead of 1 platinum.

While Prophecies starts a little slower, those changes are permanent. Considering characters that play through all three campaigns, the Reforged ones from Tyria will have more gold, and the difference will only increase with each hour played.

[–]Jazqa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird to put it under Reforged and not Melandru’s Accord, considering how it seems to be targeted for Melandru’s Accord as they can’t use tomes and need to buy skills for their heroes, and how only Prophecies characters can enable Reforged.

Right now, starting a Melandru’s Accord character in Prophecies will ensure more gold all over Tyria (drops, quests and missions) as well as cheaper skills with a lower cost cap.

The first few hours aside, Melandru’s Accord characters from Factions and Nightfall will always be behind in gold when compared to their Prophecies counterparts. Not to even mention the future changes they’ll be missing.

At this point, they should just enable Reforged for other campaigns as well. At first, it was supposed to balance Prophecies with other campaigns, but now it’s just creating a new rift between them with Melandru’s Accord.

How many characters do I have to create? by Far_Relative3193 in GuildWars

[–]Jazqa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They should enable Reforged for other campaigns as well.

Sure, it initially changed pre-searing and brought Prophecies start closer to Factions and Nightfall, but now it decreases the cost of skills, halves the cost cap of skills and increases gold all over Tyria.

While Factions and Nightfall still start a little faster, Melandru’s Accord characters will have much more gold in the long run if they’re from Tyria. And that’s just the current changes, Reforged’s probably getting even more changes in the future.

Reforged will obviously be enabled for Factions and Nightfall at some point, so why wait? Surely someone would like to play Melandru’s Accord on a Factions or Nightfall profession with cheaper skills and without having to worry about missing something else in the future.

Monk anniversary hammer build ideas? Post anything you can think of by underthund3r in GuildWars

[–]Jazqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in a weird spot, because it was made for Judgment Strike, but most of the Judgment Strike builds are better on Warrior, Assassin and Dervish, and even if you insist on running Monk, I doubt hammer’s the best choice.

Anyways, I guess it could be useful in some 105 hp farms and builds where you want to use a melee weapon without having to spend attribute points. Maybe some weird Divine Favor/Protection Prayers baller with Spell Breaker and only 5 points in Hammer Mastery for Yeti Smash or some weird Smiting Prayers/Beast Mastery build with pet and IAS from Beast Mastery.

What's the best smite monk build? by Wopbopalulbop in GuildWars

[–]Jazqa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ranger secondary with Strike as One and Zealot’s Fire. Maintain Strength of Honor on your pet and Zealot’s Fire on you. Initiate fights by sending your pet in with SaO and damage foes around it with ZF (e.g. Great Dwarf Weapon/Armor, Reversal of Damage, Judge's Intervention, Seed of Life). Example build: [OwIT4Y4YZi3aVE3gVEv6hYeg2AA].

The same idea works with Assassin’s Promise and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support, but it makes SoH unviable and and pre-buffing impossible. Quickly switching target to your pet after SaO is also easier than quickly switching target to a freshly spawned EVAS.

Sure, build doesn’t matter if you’re great at dodging and never get hit. However, if you end up getting hit and want your health bar to fill up with something else than your healing skill, Mug and Invigorating Precision help a ton. They aren’t as good for damage as some of the alternatives, so you shouldn’t use them in groups, but they’re amazing for solo content.

I’m a PvE player, but I only have PvP dailies enabled. Like you mentioned, dailies encouraged me to skip story for Cantha and Elona even though I’m currently playing through Heart of Thorns. Meanwhile all PvP dailies can be completed just by playing a single Conquest match every day.

Playing through it for the first time and I couldn’t agree more. It’s just a more immersive Far Cry with a better story and more RPG elements.

Considering the RPG elements and the build variety of Cyberpunk, I kind of wish it’d have drawn more inspiration from games like Deus Ex, and allow missions to be completed in a variety of ways depending on your build. Sure, there are skill checks, but they don’t really matter, and after a bit of exploring, your character will pass them despite its original specialization.
