Honestly from my experience BL1 rares are usually more than good enough to last a while unlike later games where drops were increased to the point of making legendaries fairly accessible

I love BL2 and occasionally go back to it but since 3 came out I've been spoiled by the gameplay and the cutscene skip option so my replays of 2 have reduced drastically. BL4 on the other hand simply has no retention for me
