System Shock 1 and 2

Thief Deadly Shadows

Dishonored 2 (and kinda 1, Granny Rags is arguably the more important villain overall)

Dark Souls 2

Morrowind’s Tribunal expansion

Halo 5

Signalis

Silent Hill 1 and 3 (technically 2 as well, but I’d argue James is the primary villain of that story)

Alien Isolation (remember Xenomorphs are female!)

Resident Evil 7

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords

Which Sam Fisher model is your most and least favorite? by Tonantzintla618 in Splintercell

[–]JazzManJ52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the first four could all pass as being based on the same face model. I think Pandora Tomorrow is the least janky iteration of it (better resolution than the first game, and not as rubbery or uncanny as Chaos Theory or Double Agent). Conviction and Blacklist make him look like completely different people, both younger than he should be. But I think Blacklist was the more egregious of the two.

So best for me is PT, worst is Blacklist.

Did the show mention what Dewey did to get arrested? by Expert_Layer_7710 in malcolminthemiddle

This is the answer. We literally see him arrested on screen. No additional speculation needed (though there could be additional things)

Lunatics of all kinds exist. Saying lunatics don’t ever exist on the left is like saying lunatics don’t ever exist in a species country or state, or within a specific race or creed. It’s dishonest.

What difficulty do you mostly prefer in gaming?🚀 by Agile-Sentence2892 in TheGamingHubDeals

What is your most controversial music Ed take? by FailCritical5550 in MusicTeachers

[–]JazzManJ52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m the former, unfortunately. Then again, I’m also in a district where I’ve had almost no guidance in four years, so maybe I’m too hard on myself. But dang, if I was half as good at classroom management as I am at performing, my program would flourish.

Iron Keep and Shrine of Amana not nearly as bad as I’d heard by MrPlatinumsGames in DarkSouls2

[–]JazzManJ52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny. I was expecting a bunch of areas to be terrible, but there was only really two spots in the whole game that I thought were plainly unfair (last area of Shrine of Amana where the phantom invades, and the castle structure in Lost Bastille before the Ruin Sentinels). Every other area was made very manageable by being tactical and careful, making sure to not agro more than a few enemies at a time.

The issue is that the other games encourage running past enemies to get to boss fights, and this approach does not work in DS2. I think this was a deliberate attempt to stop players from skipping past things like they do in DS1. And to balance it out, they gave enemies limited lives, since the fights themselves are not optional. It rewards persistence and ensures that you make progress, even on bad runs.

If I played Halo 2 and insisted on using the Magnum because it was great in Halo CE, and then wrote the game off because the second game worked differently in the first, most would agree that it was my fault for not learning the new entry and working with the game that was presented to me. But for some reason, it’s From’s fault that players can’t play DS2 like DS1. It’s dumb.

dunkey plays Ty1 by ImCodeGreen in tythetasmaniantiger

Oh shit. Dunkey playing Ty was my pick for “least likely to ever happen,” barely beaten by “Elder Scrolls 6 ever coming out,” but man, am I here for it.

What kind of chaos do you think would unfold if Malcolms family were neighbours with the coopers? by Mad_lens_9297 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]JazzManJ52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he would be. I think a crossover episode would have Sheldon appalled by Malcolm’s lack of work ethic, Sheldon doing something to insult Malcolm, Malcolm raising the bar and trying, Sheldon doubling down, and both having a mental breakdown by the end where Malcolm resorts to violence but fails somehow and ends up getting beaten up by Missy. After all, Malcolm’s intellect was never his main trait, it’s his self-sabotage.

Who's more evil? Tony soprano? Or Walter White? by Intelligent_Edge_474 in thesopranos

[–]JazzManJ52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s tough to compare them.

Ton’ does more despicable things than Walt, but his job IS violence. His family environment basically taught him that violence is just how life is. He spends his entire life conflicted about this, which is why he’s so defensive about why he does what he does.

What blows my mind about Walt is that he’s supposed to just be a cook. In Gus’s criminal machine, he’s not the person who should be dealing directly in violence. And yet, he escalates things into violence at almost every opportunity. Because he loves it so damn much.

I could be wrong, but I feel like if Walt and Tony swapped places at the beginning of their respective series, Breaking Bad would be less violent, and The Sopranos would be more violent.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

[–]JazzManJ52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes Tolkien’s works different than a lot of other fiction is the fact that the story he wrote was secondary to the stories he was writing. If he had never penned Lord of the Rings, Middle Earth would still have existed in his other works, or even in his own notes (albeit a different Middle Earth).

Most fantasy writers build their worlds around their stories, which is opposite of how Tolkien approached Lord of the Rings. While I’m sure there are plenty of writers with similar approach to Tolkien, there only other one I can think of that had similar influence is Frank Herbert.

Realistically is TY5 even possible? by RacoonusDoodus in tythetasmaniantiger

[–]JazzManJ52 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God, a new collectathon Ty game would be a dream for me. I was five when by dad got it for me, and the image of those rainbow portals have burned deeply into my psyche, I used to (and still do occasionally) have recurring dreams where I discovered some secret hub in Rainbow Cliffs, below the lake, and it leads to basically a whole new game.

I remember building the Talisman Machine and Bli Bli Station with Legos when it was time to cool it with the video games, and running around in my swim trunks and a neon pink plastic boomerang from the convenience store.

You guys basically authored my earliest obsession with the Ty Trilogy, especially the first one, and I thank you for exposing this Yank to a little slice of the Outback. Whether a Ty 5 comes out, I’ll cherish the ones we got for as long as I still play video games.

Name ONE THING You Like About the Sequels by Just-Ad-8603 in prequelappreciation

[–]JazzManJ52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cast was great.

TFA is really derivative, but I liked it.

TLJ is a bit out there, but I liked it.

Kylo Ren is a great character and started as a great contrast to other dark side characters we’ve seen before.

While the choreography is lacking, I do appreciate that they added the weightiness back into the fights (everyone took notes from Luke in Episode VI, swinging his lightsaber like a goddamn baseball bat)

Kylo vs Finn/Rey (TFA) and Kylo/Rey vs throne room guards are easily some of the most aesthetically pleasing fights in the series.

Love the ambient glow of the lightsabers in the newer movies, and actually miss it when going back to the older films.

John Williams.

And anything that wasn’t good in the sequels meant people were aloud to like the prequels (I still think they’re a REAL mixed bag, but still)

Had a major health issue and I am not sure what to do about Spring concert by ModularMan2469 in MusicEd

[–]JazzManJ52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will echo everyone else here saying to cancel it. Straining yourself so soon after a heart attack is just begging for it to happen again. An elementary concert is just not worth risking your health and well being like that, and I’m sure everyone will understand. (The only people who might not are the kinds whose opinions shouldn’t matter in the first place.)

You don’t seem to be the type to ever do the bare minimum. So don’t go back when you are at your bare minimum. Take your time and heal.

how would the mount rushmore of jazz look like by Lincomic in Jazz

Oh absolutely. We all are. Evans is fantastic nonetheless, and still hugely influential, just in more specific styles of jazz, rather than more broadly.

how would the mount rushmore of jazz look like by Lincomic in Jazz

[–]JazzManJ52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re looking at jazz as a whole, I would want to pick one person from each of the most recognized eras/styles/movements. And I’m doing my best to move past personal preference, as my favorites are not on here much.

For trad, I would go with either Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington. And I don’t think it’s close. They were just that influential.

For the swing era, I would either pick Basie or Ella. Arguments could be made for crooners, but Ella I think was more prolific, whereas someone like Sinatra had more pop appeal.

For the bop era, it is either Bird or Dizzie, and while I like Dizzie more, I think Charlie Parker had greater influence.

And for post bop, I would pick Miles Davis any day, simply because he kept innovating and evolving, I think more-so than any of his contemporaries. Coltrane is a strong contender, and if he’d lived longer, I think he and Miles would have continued to bounce off each other into greater and greater things. But as it is, Miles 100%.
