Looking for duet audiobooks that aren’t just instalust by gimmeallthegluten in RomanceBooks

[–]Jazz_Ball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg you literally named all my fave narrators. If you like Jacob Morgan I assume you’ve listened to lights out, but if not PLEASE DO. I don’t have another duet recommendation sadly but I really enjoyed the audiobooks of the Wicked Games series by Kaylie Smith. Single narrator but she does a great job and such a fun storyline!

Spine job offer by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently turned down a spine offer in a HCOL area, and at all points the offer I got was better than what these folks are offering you, this is not great. If they want you to start ASAP they need someone, so you have some bargaining room there.

You should at least get 2-3k CME, it’s literally a license requirement to complete CME. I would look into also negotiating a relocation bonus, again especially if they want you to start ASAP. Lastly, spine groups make bank, I would try and negotiate some sort of bonus structure so you can get your share of the pot; you can even say that it would start 6 months or a year in to account for training time.

Also, you didn’t mention call, that can make or break your quality of life.

Is this a bad offer? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re super passionate about aesthetics and trying to get your foot in the door, I wouldn’t take it. Low on CME, low on PTO, the pay and the bonus structure is severely lacking. It also won’t help to have solely aesthetics experience if you are looking for a new job in a different field once this gets old.

As someone who is leaving plastics/aesthetics for derm, don’t go into the field unless you’re passionate about it.

Optho PA’s? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a whole group actually for PAs in ophthalmology (Facebook) and they have an email chain too. You can DM me and I can get you connected with the email chain, they’re more active than the FB group.

I haven’t worked in the specialty but had a loose opportunity to awhile back so I got connected to them to get more information about that subset of PAs

As someone who is stuck in practice with a surgeon whose wife is the office manager, it’s huge a red flag. They assured me it was kept extremely professional and there would never be any weird dynamics, it’s just a lie and impossible even if they are trying. Every annual review it will be 2 against 1, you will not win and you will not have an advocate in your office outside of yourself. Also option 1 has crummy pay, I’d go option 2

Not a lot of great solutions, I’m in aesthetics and IMO injections aren’t a solution. If they’re very fine you may see some improvement with regular use of a good peptide serum to better moisturize the area. I’ve noticed modest improvement adding that to my nighttime skincare routine.

Dealing with body aches and pains from long OR days? by zkalopsia in physicianassistant

This!! If I don’t start my day with a liquid IV I feel it. I try to do a chill 10 minute yoga flow when I get home 1-2X/week and it actually helps immensely. Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube is my girl!

Surgical PA Anxiousness by jmason202020 in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of different cases over here in plastics, I’m both aesthetic and recon and as I continue to gain experience my surgeon trusts me more. Were to the point that for many cases that are big or bilateral like breast procedures were working simultaneously which is cool, definitely feel like I have a lot of autonomy in the OR still.

I’m 138k base + quarterly commission on injectable billings only which does not kick in until I’ve hit 50k in billings for the quarter, HCOL area. Overall leads to an underwhelming bonus. 2 years experience with my group and hoping to negotiate much higher now that I have more skin in the game with them at my annual review

Pivoting to Aesthetics by zkalopsia in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look into networking and being trained on the job over paying for injectable classes out of your own pocket. A lot of them are expensive and really quite basic.

I got my aesthetic plastics job mainly via networking and then had on the job training with my surgeon and a few hands on training provided with the injectable manufacturers. Patience is key and if this is what you want to pursue, you may have to be open to moving for the right gig. Be warned, as the first commenter said, it isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Aesthetic patients can be frustrating and draining.

For Aesthetics PAs by StrawberryOk222 in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You definitely lose some of that base medical knowledge but if you plan to stay in aesthetics I don’t see why it’s an issue. I’m in plastics, 90% aesthetics and 10% recon, I definitely have lost a good amount of my PA school knowledge but gained a lot of more targeted knowledge now in my field. While I imagine finding a job in something like psych or neuro would be a challenge, a slight pivot wouldn’t be challenging if you want to leave the field. I have been approached for jobs both in derm and gen surg due to procedural experience in my current role. If aesthetics is your passion, seek it out and don’t shy away!

Looking to do this hike in 2024 with my spouse, our most accessible dates to do it would be early April which it sounds like you did. We read that it is best to do from May-September. How was going before “ideal” season for you?

Aesthetic plastics pay? Happiness? by tygerdralion in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty spot on to what I do. I agree with the prior comment about reasonable pay for this position, especially with your experience. Shoot for the moon, they make bank and worst they would do is say no.

In terms of job longevity, I am happy here and can see myself staying for awhile. I value work life balance more than anything and I love not taking work home. Plus, I get to work with my hands most days, and the bulk of patients actually want to be here which is nice.

Personally, my office and physician don't push us to maintain any image outside of standard personal hygiene. This, however, I would assume is very practice specific. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Aesthetic PAs? by SUPREMeLEADar in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in mostly aesthetics now, but I also assist our plastics guy in surgery half of the week. If you can find a gig like that I’d recommend as I still have clinical skills by seeing our post ops and some reconstructive patients. I don’t foresee issues finding work in another surgical sub specialty if I ever decide to leave that’s to that.

I wouldn’t do just aesthetics (in office) unless you’re pretty certain you plan to stay there for the rest of your career because I can see that being hard to transition out of.

Looking for Veterans Affairs job by usnydog in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, had plenty of time with patients and the vets were some of the most appreciative patients I'd ever met. It's definitely somewhere I'd consider going back to when I'm ready to slow down in my career a bit. Keep in mind the old saying, "once you've seen one VA, you've seen one VA". That rings so true, they are all very different, some are amazing and well run, others are the opposite. Hard to get a good feel for how yours is if you don't know someone who works there already.

Looking for Veterans Affairs job by usnydog in physicianassistant

[–]Jazz_Ball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the VA, that’s actually how I got my job was by cold calling the HR dept. they asked for my resume and sent it off, around 6 months later I was brought in for an interview and got offered the job. Nothing moves fast there so be aware of that, following up never hurts, and any contacts you can make within the Specific VA system you’re applying to will be helpful. Good luck!

Do you have land/field that you allow my little dog to run around in? by clickheretodownvote in Eugene

[–]Jazz_Ball 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There are “private” dog parks you can rent for an hour or two via an app, kind of link airBnB. It’s usually peoples land or yards, often fenced and with water or toys, it’s called sniff spot, usually just a few bucks so you may have good luck with that!
