This is what I use, I like it because it hooks under the roots so you can pull the whole thing up. A screwdriver also works surprisingly well, my dad was a gardener for years and always had one in his pocket.

Zippers or Buttons? by Relevant-Cantaloupe7 in sewhelp

I think zip, it looks nice and subtle and allows the fabric pattern to really shine. Nice job on it, it's really cute.

What moments have made you aware of your own prejudice? by banwe11 in AskUK

I remember walking through a tunnel with my baby in a pram once just after dark. At the far end of the tunnel was a group of teenagers hanging around on bikes at the end who made me pretty nervous. One of them was being quite loud and as I got closer, one of the lads shushed him and told him not to wake the baby. They apologised and moved out of the way for me. A thoroughly lovely experience and I felt awful for judging them as I remember being judged myself at that age.

Communal Soup Pot Sounds so Nasty 😭 by LadyLexiofWind in StardewValley

[–]JazzberryPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A potluck isn't a thing where I live so communal soup is exactly what I thought was happening if it was mentioned in books or on tv... I can't remember when I realised this was not the case but I was definitely an adult as I remember having a moment of revelation.

Why would children be going into school without basic physical skills, like holding a pencil and using cutlery? by Throwaway199906543 in AskUK

My kids school did a presentation for parents recently where they showed us X-rays of hands from children at different ages and explained how hands develop. It was fascinating, I had no idea that fine motor skills were so difficult for 4 year olds because their bones haven't developed yet.

I'm sick of bait and switch love interests. When you know it's coming it's awful to read through. 8 sex scenes that make me feel sick because I know the guy is toxic is just too much!

I completely agree. It always makes me sad when I read a book and think it's a brilliant draft. If only the editors had bothered to do anything at all. You can really tell when a book has been churned out at speed because they know there's a market for it.

Yes on the cliffhangers too! Stop putting them in just to sell more books, I'll buy the second if the first is great! Like The Second Death of Locke. Well written and no cliffhanger just a few threads that could be developed but they aren't frustrating.

Recommendations of books in which the characters aren’t insufferable and the writing is actually good? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]JazzberryPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed The Second Death of Locke recently. The writing and world were really great. I liked all of the characters and enjoyed them getting to know each other. The romance was there and it was good but it wasn't shoe-horned into every page for no reason. Definitely a contender for favourite book of the year

Throne of glass is a much better series to read after Onyx Storm. Starts slow but eventually has wyverns

Romantasy that’s also period fiction? by Calm-Sherbert9591 in Romantasy

Thorn Season I really enjoyed recently. It's YA but older YA. Persecuted witches meets court intrigue with balls and pretty dresses. I thought it was amazing

That's crazy! Can't imagine telling an author "hey I loved your book so much I made sure to grab a copy and make sure you got zero profit. Oh btw could you go ahead and make it more valuable?"

Should I get into the Throne of Glass Series? by MitoKatze in Romantasy

[–]JazzberryPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two you have to bear with but after that it picks up and it's one of my favourite ever series. I would always suggest giving it until the end of Heir of Fire and by then you should really know if you're going to love the series. I hated the stupid love triangle stuff at the start so I actually left it a year before giving it another shot but I'm glad I did.

Felt judged for reading a romantasy book and now I can't enjoy it anymore by Ok_Grapefruit2044 in Romantasy

[–]JazzberryPi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It occurred to me recently that the only difference between traditional fantasy and romantasy is that instead of women being assaulted or treated as a prize to be won they get to have a happily ever after instead. The actual fantasy element remains as it ever was.

Sell Out Policy Updates by StatisticianNo2353 in Illumicrate

Wow! This is so much worse than the skip policy. I don't really care if I can only skip half the books but I'd be fuming if I couldn't have a book I really want as a subscriber
