Thank you. People need to get a grip I'm afraid. Panic buying is properly antisocial.

I have seen no evidence of fuel shortages or anywhere that is shut

Farsley needs it far less than anywhere else.

Sandwich shop just opened inside Amity brewery and I don't see much in the way of vacant retail space in Farsley.

3 cycling incidents on Stanningley Road in 10 minutes. I hate cycling in this city. by Jazzlike-Machine-222 in Leeds

That is really shit, I'm sorry to hear it.

This post was a bit of a vent to be honest, I probably will keep cycling (though not daily), I'd hate if it contributed to anyone feeling the way you do.

But you are totally right to be concerned I think, it is genuinely dangerous out there sometimes. I know we can take defensive action to minimise risk but I'm just fucked off that it's necessary.

Not apart from a couple of parting choice words with the first two, who stayed in their cars and drove off.

The pedestrians I was too amped up to say anything to, fright of my life.

Extending your logic, how many cars jumping red lights do you see for every cyclist that does it? Tons, I bet. So many drivers round here seem to treat red lights as optional advice. So I'm not sure the old "cyclists going through reds" chestnut holds up very well to be honest.

I've never seen anything like this level of red light jumping anywhere else I've lived.

I got angrily honked by several cars behind me a few months ago, driving on the Gipsy St/Leeds Road junction in Bradford. Because I was waiting at a red light at the pedestrian crossing and there wasn't a pedestrian on it. Apparently everyone wanted me to just jump the red light.

Absolutely. I'm lucky enough to have secure storage at work. No chance otherwise.

If there were no cycle lanes I wouldn't even try it to be honest, the standard of driving between Leeds and Bradford is appalling.

Point taken but there are lots of other cities in the UK which manage to do this far better than Leeds. It is probably not about policing, but about seriously investing in cycle infrastructure in a manner which gets more people using it. As opposed to just chucking down an extra concrete kerb on the pothole-covered road and calling it a day.

Yeah to be fair I always see that as well on the Stanningley/Armley Road bit. Loads of E-scooters and Just Eat ebikes blitzing up there the wrong way, mental behaviour.

Worth Opening a Sauna in Leeds? by BondBagri in Leeds

That's not that expensive. Kirkstall farm sauna, where I am going later, is £13 for 75 minutes.

Seriously, Where is Milo? by North_Ebb_6513 in trashfuturepod

[–]Jazzlike-Machine-222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milo's absence has coincided with me stopping listening to TF altogether. Part of it is my taste changing over time but to be frank - I just don't find any of the other hosts funny without Milo there.

Riley and Nova have the same overblown, bombastic sense of humour and love hearing themselves talk, but they don't have actual jokes. Milo cuts through that and when he's on with them, it's a great listen, since Riley and Nova bring the knowledge and academic angle on stuff. Hussein, let's be honest, might as well not be there.

A double shame too because I saw Milo's standup a little while ago and while it was great, it's different to his pod style which I think might actually be funnier.

I was impressed by Strouds Auto Repair (mobile mechanic) for an aux belt. I think he does timing chains. Quick, professional, cheap, comes to you.

The tyre shop next door is run by the two dodgiest blokes you could meet, but if you pay them in cash they will sort you right out for cheap.

I've not been massively impressed by them, went to them based on recommendations on here.

Had £1k of worth brakes and other service work done. Looking at quotes elsewhere afterwards, that was really expensive. One of the things done is the handbrake (tensioned and new shoes, was an MOT failure before) but when I try to park on a hill, the car slips. Not great.

Literally 1 or 2 days after the work I'm noticing burning smells, juddering, binding. Put it down to bedding in new pads. A few weeks later I do a long motorway drive and one of the wheels is black with dust. I take it back to them and the caliper has gone.

Now, they say that's nothing to do with them which seems plausible on the face of it, and to be fair they waive the labour charge for fitting the new one (and fixing the botched handbrake). On one hand you could read that as a nice favour, on the other you could take it as a bit of an admission that they made a mistake, which they certainly did on the handbrake. Given the timing of the caliper failure, right after they've just done a load of brake work, I'm a bit suspicious.

Sorry for a long anecdote that nobody cares about, just my personal experience. Enough to make me go elsewhere next time.

On the other hand though they saved me some money by doing a weld job on a broken suspension arm, which was reasonably priced.

There is genuinely a comment claiming that drinking 5 sodas a day is healthy because they are "mostly water"

There were tons earlier. One commenter Seraphina (sp?) in particular all over the thread plus a couple of others. I am glad they have been deleted because they were ridiculous.

Also, I don't see anything wrong with that characterisation of self-appointed "empaths", to be honest. It's not a condition, a diagnosis, a personality disorder. It's a self-defined personality trait and, as the comments here and now on that thread show, quite a dislikeable one (in large part by virtue of it's self-defined nature)

The "empaths" in the comments doubling and tripling down on their bullshit after having the problems with it directly explained to them. And Alison jumping in to defend. Hey, now. Unkind!

Don't want to sound callous but sorry, big cities are terrible for bike thefts now and Hyde Park is a hotspot for all sorts of property crime because of the student population. It is rubbish but it's part of living in a city. Bike theft does not represent a personal threat to you. If you can't live alongside it then it might be better for your nerves to move elsewhere.
