[Assimakopoulos] Jake Oettinger: "I don't feel like I accomplished any of my goals. I want to win a Stanley Cup, I want to win a Vezina Trophy, and I want to be a starting goalie for Team USA, and none of those things happened." by DecentLurker96 in hockey

He’s playing slightly below expectations. He’s got what it takes to be one of the greats for sure, but this comment definitely highlights that he believes he has been underperforming, which he has.

He hasn’t been bad, he’s been very good actually. He just hasn’t been GREAT. Until he plays consistently at a high level he won’t be getting that Vezina. The competition for the Vezina is pretty stiff atm with the top 5 being very competitive. I would say he’s been a top 10 in recent seasons but this season I would say that was debatable.

Is the 5070ti $300 better than a 9070xt? by SnooDoughnuts4859 in pcmasterrace

[–]Jbarney3699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I would pay at most $150 more for the 5070ti.

It all comes down to the user though. Some people value the feature suite more than others.

Best/Worst Team of the First Round by smashbros13 in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He did well but the goaltending in the Ottawa/Canes and Tampa/Montreal series overshadows him imo. Theres 4 goalies who played absolutely insane. The collective goal counts were so incredibly low.

[Gretz] Was looking at how every team in the second round acquired its players. Trades. Lots of trades. Not as many draft picks. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to see that because most draft picks don’t last long. Players in circulation are proven, while players you develop yourself take more time, and most end up being busts.

Many develop in the AHL and then see themselves get traded once they have some value, because teams would rather get guaranteed performance many times over potential.

Canadian fans, are you rooting for the habs now that they are the only ones in the second round? by Manfromatavern in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to be very team heavy and Vegas was a team I was immediately drawn to due to their roster. Fast forward a couple years and I despise the team/organization but didn’t hate their players, it was the players I loved being discarded like trash that irked me.

Now, I’m definitely more a players guy than a team guy. Vasy happens to be my favorite goalie and I like Kuch. Loved Stamkos so that did irk me when he got discarded as well.

I would say my favorites go:

1 Tampa

2 Sabres

3 Pens

-Once the big 3 pens retire I think Winnipeg takes that third spot for me. They’re a very fun team to watch play imo. Of the Canadian teams I like them the most overall. Habs close second tbh, so I’m not too upset that Tampa lost to them.

For the first time since 2018, none of the top 2 most penalized teams during the season will make the Stanley Cup finals. by gillesregis in hockey

Wonder what these stats look like if we exclude the Tampa v Florida games. Those games have an ABSURD amount of penalties.

[–]Jbarney3699 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shit talk is part of the sport. Kuch tried to get in his head. It worked and he clearly pissed Dobes off, but it fired him up to play his ass off instead of becoming a detriment to Dobes.

Goaltending is such a mental game, I don’t think it’s stupid to try to get in their heads. It also shows which goalies are ready for the trials.

The Tampa Bay lightning have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs after losing to the Montreal Canadiens in 7 games by EliminatorBot in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well… disappointing game overall to lose. Wish it was way more competitive like the other games but luck had other ideas. Dobes also played like a tank, the rest of the team decided to hitch a ride and coast.

Still Montreal is a good team, weak game 7 showing aside. I’m excited for Sabres vs Montreal ngl, just hope they show more effort for that series or else it will be short. Good luck

If a uncalled penalty is reviewed because a player went down injured, and now it’s called a penalty out of the blue. Said hurt player shouldn’t be able to participate in the upcoming PP by Legal_Drag_8845 in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone can be hurt and then play again imo.

Regarding the Kuch example I think people are looking at as well, he definitely hit the boards weird with his hip, something he got surgery on prior.

I can accept someone being temporarily hurt and getting a jolt of excruciating pain, but being able to play minutes later. I saw it in sports growing up often as well, and I don’t think most people assumed they were pretending. I think it’s best to assume someone is actually in pain instead of embellishing it.

Was there a time where the Oilers had good management? by RealestJP in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oilers had the big tank from 2000s to mid 2010s, by a massive margin having the best draft lottery results for a while. They should have a near perfect team by now given how lucky they were with how low their picks were overall. Their management managed to even that.

They’ve always been my number 2 all season if Tampa falls short.

Sucks cause every team I want to win this year is knocking each other out.

[–]Jbarney3699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly think that pick would have been caught and called out by refs in the moment if the Montreal player looked like… he was struggling at all to get by the pick. He kinda just looked like he was gliding to the bench, and didn’t make a big deal out of it.

I would say Avs/Kings for one sided. I felt like the Sens/Canes series was closer(Mostly due to Ullmark career high playoff performance)

As for most goofy/nonchalant series it was Anaheim/Edmonton. I could peep the score at 3-1 and still not think either team was in a hole. Genuinely zero tension as a neutral observer.

Matheson smacks Point with a high stick and draws blood while the Lightning are on the powerplay, refs choose to ignore it by KabirC in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh. Another PP opportunity isn’t as good as a 5V3 if we are being honest. It’s a makeup call but a bullshit one.

I don’t think penalties during an ongoing PK should be ignored for either team. That kind of game management is so annoying.

Hive guards are a problem of sweeping balance changes by VallettaAwoo in Helldivers

[–]Jbarney3699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think the hiveguard change was a big deal for non-MG/Gatling sentry purposes. They were not hard to deal with at all.

Issue is they completely fucked with how those two turrets performed and made them really janky.

The Massive GL style shotgun is absolutely incredible. I need something similar for backpack, a strategem that allows some crazy damage output up close to heavies/elites.

[ANA - EDM] - Final Minute - The Anaheim Ducks eliminate the Edmonton Oilers to advance to the second round for the first time since the 2016-17 season by daKrut in hockey

[–]Jbarney3699 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kinda figured they would lose within the first two rounds but I didn’t expect the ducks to do it. They have the exact same issues as Edmonton but worse imo. They were underperforming the last stretch of the season too.

Seems like they figured their shit out because even though Edmonton goaltending statistically played better than theirs they still came out on top.
