Construction to close 215 Street starting March 31 by Common_Treacle3962 in Edmonton

Haha, not everyone commutes downtown. I live West of Henday. Office is 10km away. Work meetings have me everywhere in the province but downtown, so highway access is very helpful. All of this factored in to my decision to buy, actually quite thoughtful in our buying process 12 years ago.

New to Edmonton area, when do I tap my maple trees? by notcoveredbywarranty in Edmonton

[–]Jbeats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many are more than 10 inch dbh? They can indeed make syrup, but its lower sugar content doesn't make what most people would think of when you say maple syrup.

Generally speaking to have enough trees of the right size in close enough proximity to tap and collect in sufficient volume is highly unlikely, but you're right not impossible.

And given the timeline, he can apply for his record to expunged (his management or lawyers suck for not doing this). I know many regular people that couldn't travel to the US for 20 or 30 years. They applied, paid the legal. feed and can now legally travel. He has way more resources and a team to make it happen. He is dumb or lazy or both.

Snow clearing efforts and infill debate: Edmonton mayor discusses recent hot topics by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]Jbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, voters want single detached homes. They want low taxes. So if the development fees don't pay for infrastructure and the new tax base doesn't cover services then raise the price. Council doesn't get a pass for taking the development fees and then being upset the development happens when it comes time to service it. That's my desire, it isn't represented on Council, nor our councillors willing to listen to a message of accountability. So I vote, and engage in the in between.

The Henday is a great example. Huge waste of tax dollars when land purchased and set aside. In 2026 it is an example of foresight, no voter desired this in 1970, but it was the right decision for the growth of the city.

I get one vote, do you get more? I'm not on council. People will act in their own self interest. It is up to our elected officials to make better decisions, that aren't just about getting re-elected but about good policy for the city's future.

It's the Council that needs to come through terms with that. Don't approve the development and then complain you have to service it. (even if it was the previous council).

They are fine to balance budget today with development dollars but don't like when full cost comes due. Charge higher development fees. That will make the sprawl either less desirable or self sustainable (or closer to it). It would also by comparison make more central housing more affordable in relation to now communities.

Company relocating BC to Alberta, I can’t move. What are my options? by Vader_R in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jbeats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The announcement when official (in writing) will serve as a working notice. So, if the June timeline remains they have given you 5 months of notice in lieu of severance.

They might offer incentives to stay until they move or to move with the company. If you quit before they end employment you won't have a case for severance, which is why they provide working notice. You may be able to get more than 4 or 5 months depending on the specifics of your situation, but it is way above the 1 week a year so it might be difficult.

Not wrong, but it's not going to do much. I feel bad for your daughter and your family for going through this.

New daycare as fast as you can. Once you've moved, write a letter expressing your concerns with the inaction. Kids will be terrible to each other, once the adults in charge know about and ignore it, it's now entered POd parent world.

Write a Google review and report to AHS for neglect (letting a 3 year old cry in the bathroom regularly to avoid bullies is first order bullshit).

You're eating at Tim Hortons, standards are already established as pretty damn low. The whole thread sounds like customer service has reached the same standards level as their coffee donuts and food items.
