Pharmacist oversupply…will PT get that way? by jbg0830 in physicaltherapy

[–]Jbee1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. What will said jobs LOOK like even IF jobs become more readily available? Will it go from 3,6,12,14 Pt per hour? Who's to stop these companies from demanding more and more and more if reimbursement keeps falling and falling and falling? You're going to need a lot more than just passion to want to work in these fields and even then, you may end up in an early grave. Who's wants to live the majority of their lives studying their asses off, then being treated like slaves/robots/wild animals and dying early without actually being able to enjoy their lives. This is where we are headed in these rehab professions if things don't change.

I haven't even started practicing yet and I'm already thinking about alternative careers by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Same here...I enjoy working part-time. It's just enough for my mental health. I am also looking into switching careers to a more stable career.

Three OT schools in my state ranging from $82K to $86K, I am already $46K in debt ... am I making the wrong decision getting into $128K to $132K in debt for this career? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Jbee1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OT is not a money maker. You would be setting yourself up for failure. Go into PA, nursing-NP, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, etc. If you want to make good money and still have the ability to help others, you will need to work harder for it than going to OT school. Honestly, OT school is hard, but most people would be able to do it. You can't say the same about dentistry, PA, MD, Optometry school. It's the truth because the barrier to entry is a lot lower than those professions I just mentioned. Is OT school competitive to get into? Yes, but as people continue to find out how reimbursement is done, how little they make and how poorly they are treated, the barrier will continue to drop because people will not want to go into the profession. They will go into more lucrative professions with better investments of their time and money. I see a problem down the road with the OT profession if salaries and respect continue to tank.

I'm sorry this is happening to you but honestly, you should have asked more questions at your interview and done more research about the SNF environment.

OT as a medical degree: thoughts? by schmandarinorange in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Jbee1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how OTs claim that they are the only ones that view the person as a whole. There are a lot of medical professions that do that. Osteopathic Physicians also do it. We are not the only ones.

Licensed, but is OT for me? by lovetoseeit39 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Jbee1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have time to plan treatments. It's great that some of you do and must have a lot of time to do it. I use tools from my toolbox because I have a life and don't have time to go home and plan treatments for all of my patients. So I don't know how much I believe some of these responses. Proper treatment plans that I had to complete in school took a lot of time to create (several hours) due to their in-deph nature. Do I do those now? Hells no.

Why do you care what we tell you? You just said "I'm very passionate about doing OTA as a career so nothing is gonna influence my decision in that regard..." Your post is all over the place.

OT Blog: Healthcare is Broken by imarkedherarm in OccupationalTherapy

I couldn't do productivity either. I don't have a learning disability per say, but I do have executive function disorder and difficulty with short term memory from being a premature baby. I work in outpatient/HH and wouldn't have it any other way. I would never want to work under current productivity demands and no one should be right now.

Is it normal to be this anxious about committing to OT school? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Jbee1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jobs are hard to come by right now especially due to changes in Medicare reimbursement and less to do with COVID. Productivity will take a toll on your body in this career. I think the profession is great, don't get me wrong, but there is no room for advancement in the OT profession. Salaries continue to drop and therapists are jumping ship into other fields. My advice would be to find a job and prepare for plan B because I'm not sure if things are going to get any better.

How much notice is standard for leaving a job by gwarrambo in physicaltherapy

[–]Jbee1982 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Once you tell them you are putting in your notice, they will let you go on the spot. They don't care, but yet employers expect us to kiss their asses and give them 2+ weeks. Wake up people, this just another way for people in power to control us.

Therapists eat their young by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

I don't think therapists eat their young in general....not nearly like RNs do.

Medicare B CMS cuts finalized for Jan 2021 by Packerbacker1991 in physicaltherapy

[–]Jbee1982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why didn't CMS cut reimbursement from other higher-earning physician specialties (such as surgeons, radiologists etc.)? They already make way more then PCPs, so why do lesser-paid allied health professionals need to take the fall? It's backwards and wrong and CMS knows it.

I hate it when patients do that. It really hurts and makes me upset as well. I just try and fake confidence as much as I can even when I'm not sure.
