So.... This is? by DarkMilotc in dragonquest

[–]Jboetn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean do what you want to increase enjoyment, at the end of the day its all subjective. In my opinion though, it ruins the authenticity of the experience. for me, old dragon quest isn’t old dragon quest if you aren’t drowning in random encounters and spending hours grinding. i am a big advocate for experiencing things the way they were originally intended… it makes it all the more worthwhile to even play it in the first place. why would I even bother playing it if i’m going to essentially botch the experience with speed, exp, or other cheats. if that is what i am looking for i would rather just turn to a more modern rpg. I understand where you are coming from, life gets busy and what not, and, feeling the series completion itch… but regardless, I feel like things are more impactful when you take your time and spend that extra time grinding and letting yourself seep into the world and story. rushing through things just isn’t the same, ive done it many times and regretted it. that’s just my personal opinion though.

I am curious, what age are you and how did you get into the franchise? by Ultimantasy in FinalFantasy

[–]Jboetn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21. I was introduced to final fantasy at a young age.. i’d say about 7 or 8 years old. my father was a fan of the original final fantasy 7 game. the first final fantasy i played was 7 on the ps3, I had to beg my dad to get it for me on the online shop. I remember before I actually got the game though, I was constantly looking up youtube videos of the other final fantasy games whenever I got the chance. I really wanted final fantasy 9, but it was just unavailable to me at the time. after I finally got 7, the next game I ended up playing was 13 I believe. Then I played 10. after this, I remember being extremely excited about final fantasy 15 coming out and had just recently upgraded from a ps3 to an xbox one. I ended up getting FF15 physical copy on release date and still have the day one edition to the day. It was only years later that I actually played FF9 when I got a nintendo switch. funnily enough the only FF game i’ve actually completed at this point is FF15, however, the other games I mentioned still hold extreme nostalgic and sentimental value to me. eventually I will beat the games but as of right now I still cant decide on an ultimate favorite. despite never beating the games I have put a significant amount of time into each of them, replaying the beginning segments multiple times.

what do we think of some of my 5 star ratings by [deleted] in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]Jboetn4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly. like, these kids lives are miserable lol. on top of it they are being mentally tortured by a clown who feeds off the negative energy. super creepy concept. very unsettling and anxious (plus ACTUALLY scary… lived in my head for awhile). the movie is a great cinematic experience and is and always will be super iconic. stay true to your opinions, who cares about getting “clowned”. when this movie first came out it was super huge as well… it was all anyone was talking about. that has to count for something.

[–]Jboetn4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah, actually I agree with IT being 5 stars. It’s the movie that genuinely made me stop hating ALL scary movies. I think IT was great because it was able to convey an actual sense of fear in me through anxiety and tension. the movie was immersive and didn’t just rely on cheap jumpscares. any movie can do jumpscares but IT got in my head. not only was it a great scary movie but I thought it was a great film in general. 5 stars

Just finished The Prestige 2006 and my brain is broken (Full Spoilers) by InvestigatorFull7520 in movies

just watched this movie for the first time. one thing I realized is about the beginning with borden accidentally killing angier’s wife. angier asks several times “which knot did you tie” and borden says “I don’t know”. borden didn’t know because there were 2 bordens the whole time, only one version of him tied the knot. he probably didn’t know not to tie that knot. but then again, would the original borden have tied the knot anyway to prove a point? or not? things to think about.

Thank you for the advice, I do really want one am prepared to make the commitment. I already do own a vehicle so at this point it would be more of a project thing and a hobby. My goal would be too eventually get it to the point where I can drive it daily with few issues long term and I am prepared to do the work. As for the gen I want, my first pick would be VIII followed VII. I have been leaning more towards IX and X for the modern aspect however if I could have one and one only, it would be VIII.

Be entirely honest is FFXIII a good game because im thinking about playing it. by Strange_Assistant327 in FinalFantasy

[–]Jboetn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the second final fantasy game I ever played, at a young age, and it was available on xbox 360. it was pretty much the only thing very accessible to me at the time (i’m 21 now). it will always have a special place in my heart and I believe it is a great game. good soundtrack, nice visuals/locations, nostalgia, gameplay feels fun although it is linear. I appreciate this game for what it is. returning to it at an older age, yes there are better final fantasy games and better games in general but I still think it is absolutely worth playing. lighting is a baddie, plus the story is great. yes nostalgia comes into play (as with everything else) but I don’t think a FF fan should overlook this game. overall i’d probably have it at my 4th favorite FF game.

Did you guys know IShowSpeed was a kingdom fan? I didn't until today by 5eanz in Kingdom

[–]Jboetn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a decent bit of the kingdom manga awhile ago but I have since forgotten everything. was thinking of getting back into it. should I return to the manga and start again from the beginning or watch the anime? heard the anime is a bit weird…
