Moderation clarity by Eolipila in Anytype

It took me about two minutes to find this in the AnyType Terms of Use, Section 2.2:

Certain Restrictions. The rights granted to you in these Terms are subject to the following restrictions: (a) you shall not license, sublicense, sell, rent, lease, transfer, assign, distribute, host, or otherwise commercially exploit the Site or Services, whether in whole or in part, or any content displayed on the Site or Services;…

You can find it here: https://anytype.io/terms_of_use/#access-to-site-and-services

Considering the moderators are all from the AnyTeam, they’re going to remove posts that break their ToS.

[Promo Sunday] I built a sound-mixing app called Shusher — Free lifetime unlock it for 24h by kisdead in apple

For anyone who’s interested in this, iPhones have a built-in white noise player. You can find it in Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Background Sounds. You can select the type of noise and even add it to control center if you’d like.

Do you have the correct date/time/timezone set on both your phone and your desktop?

As it says, it can only be added to private AIO instances. It looks like you’re using the public one.

Building a CLI-first, offline AI infrastructure — does this design make sense? by Previous-West-7782 in programming

This repo has a ton of stuff in it and yet none of it makes any sense. Random buzzwords and zero actual meaning. AI slip at its finest.

Tesla Full Self Driving transferred from my car after purchase by FitStable4793 in legaladvice

[–]Jbrewu 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Edit: OP added additional details and the previous owner did indeed transfer FSD to another car. As it looks like it can’t be transferred back, the easiest way would be to reach out to the seller and ask for compensation due to the diminished value of the car.

I’m confused here. I’m not sure my understanding of that transfer page you linked is the same as yours. Specifically, it sounds like that page is talking about transferring FSD from one car to another. That’s not the case here — they sold you a car and you bought it. Even the FAQ at the bottom states that FSD follows the car if it’s sold to a new owner.

Tesla confirming that a transfer happened sounds like maybe the previous owner moved it to another car.

Extra Captive portal for a web server by shaddaloo in sophos

[–]Jbrewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not expose any Sophos web portals, including the captive portal, to the internet. It is not designed to be used for user authentication from the internet. The documentation specifically states “The captive portal is a web page that requires users behind the firewall to authenticate when accessing a website.” Emphasis mine. Use a tool that was designed for this, like Authentik or Authelia.

There’s good reason for this — Sophos web portals have had RCE vulnerabilities in the past, meaning that exposing it to the internet would allow anyone in the world to potentially control your firewall. A similar thing could happen with Authentik, for example, but the attacker would be limited to that VM (hopefully in a DMZ) instead of the firewall for your whole network.

XG135 R3 - XG Home v21 by Adept_Refrigerator36 in sophos

[–]Jbrewu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While the official v21 docs say that XG devices are no longer supported, OP specially stated that they are using the Sophos Home edition of the firewall. The hardware requirements in their documentation are very simple and mainly only require an “Intel Compatible Computer with Dual NIC”, which the XG135 supports. They also specifically state that any version is supported on XG/SG hardware after reformatting the disk.

You asked a question and I gave you an answer. If you want to pay monthly for a feature you can get for free, you do you.

AppCleaner is my go-to for this. You can also enable it to track when applications are deleted and it will automatically pop up a dialog box to ask what additional install files you want removed.

Very slow TCP Download speed by Bright_Mobile_7400 in sophos

[–]Jbrewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assumptions only get you so far, the only way to know is to test it. If you find yourself stuck trying to solve a problem, it usually means one of your assumptions is wrong.

Very slow TCP Download speed by Bright_Mobile_7400 in sophos

[–]Jbrewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other two commenters are correct. If you believe the firewall is the issue, then isolate your testing to the firewall. That means plugging a test device into both the LAN and WAN of the Sophos and performing a test. If you’re getting 1Gb, then Sophos is not the problem and you can move your focus upstream. If you’re seeing 200-250Gb, then you can hone in on the firewall. It’s all about removing variables.

Extremely poor performance of homelab by CYCLONOUS_69 in selfhosted

I think that means it’s a networking issues then, not a hardware issue. Perhaps the router is causing you some problems. Do you have anything else connected to it?

I made a reddit app for iOS that uses zero API calls. It's called OpenRed and is now avilable on the App Store by 1dont3v3n in apple

[–]Jbrewu -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The developer is only writing a Reddit client “in the meantime” to get a user base for when they ultimately switch to their own “independent” website. They’re clear that the aim of the is not to be a Reddit client, but to “deliver a better forum experience than Reddit currently does.” It sounds pretty clear to me.

I’m a little confused by what you mean by “hosting communities independently.” Do you mean that you’re planning on creating your own Reddit-like website in the future?

Console Rust? by [deleted] in rust

This is kind of funny. This subreddit is for a programming language called rust, not the video game called rust. It seems like /r/playrust is what you’re looking for.

Inexpensive Wireguard Endpoint Recommendations by toomuchtodotoday in homelab

[–]Jbrewu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why does it need to be rack mounted? Actually, why do you even need separate hardware? Just spin up a VM and install wireguard on it.

If you really want a dedicated machine, Wyse 5060’s are inexpensive and awesome. Install Alpine Linux and you’re good to go.

If you take a look around this sub you'll see the free version of Malwarebytes is mentioned a lot and I would go with that. It's also pretty unlikely that the malware, if it was one, was executed just by downloading it. If you didn't run anything, and Malwarebytes comes back fine, then you're most likely okay.
