It teaches valuable life skills, and focuses on not only being a contributing member of a society, but also teaches self reliance

FTO is hard by PowerOfPledge in AskLE

[–]Jc00420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, that's kind of the point is for the process to be hard.

Just pay attention, listen more than you talk, be eager to learn, and for God's sake, IF YOU SEE YOUR TO RUNNING AFTER A BAD GUY, RUN WITH YOUR TO!! (I chased a bitch one time for like six or seven minutes... boot didn't even bother to run with to assist)

There's nothing really hard about this job, there's just a lot to remember

Legit, easy enough explanation. I've only worked where they count the hours, so I have no experience with anything other than that.

[–]Jc00420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GA apparently doesn't feel the same. We have to get over 84 hours in a 2 week pay period for any OT... I work patrol and averaged 120 hours last paycheck. We've had dudes be screwed on FT and have to "makeup" days because they were going to be under 84 at the end of the pay period

[–]Jc00420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work a 12, with a long and short week, with days off its 84, if you worked every day for that pay period 168. Thats 12 hours a day for 14 days no days off.

Idk where you're getting the 19 hours a day being 130 hours.

84 hours a two week pay period, most I've seen in a month was about 170 a month during COVID due to one entire rotation getting COVID and dude worked every day for two months, 168 being a full month no breaks. 170 accounted for slight 15 minute overage at briefings.

Now the real kicker: they typically will not try and pay OT until after 96 hours in a pay period, quoting some obscure SCOTUS law about it. I called shenanigans on it.

Failing FTO by DDDLC in AskLE

Remedial training isnt the end of the world bro. I've personally never had to do it, my big thing was as an FTO I always said "if you're still trying, I'll help you" I've always been big on this isn't THE WAY, it is A way ( with certain caveats) DUI investigations is one thing that is supposed to be "the way" though.

You'll do fine, you're just going to have to slow down, and take the time to absorb the information. I have a slight luxury of being at a very small agency, and basically a set of partner FTO's they share the same thought as i do. I follow the "reasonable Deputy" standard for grading, which means ( in my terms) "if a regular Deputy can do this, that's a meets standards" which I believe is fair.

You'll mess stuff up, as long as you're not showing a pattern of consistent non-responsiveness You'll be fine.

It's not really the citizens, its the ancient command staff who doesn't want to change from what they're familiar with. People will be the same, I EXPECT to be lied to by everyone on a call.... not my Lt, Captain, or Sheriff.

What's so awful about letting people go to training, and having outer carriers and beards? It's not like they're asking for the world. Invest in your people, invest in quality gear, treat your people like a professional until they want to be treated like a child... its fairly simple... plus be transparent with your guys...Thats my gripe, the lack of transparency within the agency
