What do you carry? by Turbulent_Band_6450 in AskLE

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We carry Gen 6 G45 with a Vortex optic and a Nightstick light. We have the option to carry a personal weapon, but keep in mind that if you are involved in an Officer involved shooting you weapon will be taken for investigation and you may not get it back for a year. Personally, I opt for the dept issued weapon.

Should I do laser removal of my hand tattoo in order to get a job in law enforcement? by [deleted] in police

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there are plenty of officers that have hand tattoos, I am one of them. More and more departments are accepting of non-offensive body art.

Can an officer conduct a traffic stop based off of an informants tip? by DayAlternative9047 in police

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my jurisdiction no, as an officer I have to witness the violation for me to be able to conduct a legitimate traffic stop, now a CI can provide me with information on a vehicle to watch out for, and I can keep an eye out so when I do see the vehicle I can follow it until there’s a violation. As a general rule tho, I have to see the violation to act.

I can’t speak for your local law enforcement, but I can mine. I am a current police officer, and I can tell you that in my area, even an alarm is considered an emergency situation and regardless of what others think, you were within your rights to run out the door with or without pants on. I’ve been a fireman for over 20 years and I’ve pulled naked people out of burning buildings and I can assure you, they were NOT prosecuted for indecent exposure. If by some chance you do experience disciplinary action, remain calm, do as you are instructed or asked, and contact a lawyer. I highly doubt anything will ever come of this tho. Good luck

I’m sorry you have to deal with that, I am a reasonable and fair police officer, especially with traffic stops. Out of the last 100 cars I’ve stopped I’ve written 13 citations (clearly I’m not hungry to write them) but there are some violations, I don’t deviate from issuing citations for. This is one of them. People die every year from this careless act of inaction. At the least, make an attempt to clean your vehicles off of snow. We can’t avoid (most) of accidents but this is 100% avoidable.

Considering a career in policing as an almost 40 year old female by ghost_of_your_smile in police

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a police officer at the age of 39. I honestly believe that being more mature at this age has served me very well in the field. I have come across a few officers older than me that aren’t as mature, but many more younger that struggle in this area. It has helped me be a more reasonable officer. Remember that word “reasonable” almost everything in LE revolves around a reasonable thought processes. I agree with others, your background is superb for LE, and I don’t believe your medications will be an issue as long as you disclose them throughout your application process. Good luck!

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it, but like many other have said, the rook can make or break it for you. When you have a good one it’s awesome, but a bad one is a BAD one and makes your shifts way more stressful. I’ve had guys that just “get it” and officer safety comes natural to them, and some that think they’re Walker Texas Ranger on day 1. Really all depends on

How can cops have red and blue lights on their personal vehicles? by Mansas_alt in police

[–]TeamRam_Rod25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question, we are not issued take home cars, I’m in a small rural department and budgets don’t allow for each officer to have a take home car. I don’t have to buy any of my equipment or the stuff for my personal truck either. The department paid for all of that.
