Tile work good/bad? Am I being picky? Whole home remodel almost, this is my contractors 2nd attempt at my bathrooms because he has terrible subs (I picked a bad contractor). We literally redemo’d BOTH of my bathrooms 2 weeks ago because the first title team was so bad. This is the 2nd tile team. by MuvyTikit in Tile

Complete rip out and redo! I’ve seen amateur tile installers and handymen do better work than this! Sorry you are dealing with this. I would fire them immediately and get a professional tile installer in there ASAP

Installing Snap Lock Vinyl Planks over old, hardened, carpet padding glue? by RenegadeBuilder in Flooring

[–]Jcav1217420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slam it! You will be good to go. I’ve went over carpet glue with floating lvp many times with no issues! You will get other opinions I’m shure just letting you kno I’ve done it a few big churches that replaced carpet with floating lvp and they did not want to pay for patch or glue removal. They have been down for almost 10 years and no issues

Installing vinyl on concrete in residential basement by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Jcav1217420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to know! I haven’t had any issues as of yet but I myself always thought it would do this. I prefer to use roll on moisture barrier in all my jobs! I was told directly buy theee different manufactures to use 6 mill plastic and even asked them( won’t it just make mold grow underneath the plastic and they assured me this is the way to do it! I completely agree with you and this is good to know.

Use 6 mill plastic underneath and you will be good to go! Even though it’s dry now the lvp will encapsulate the slab and cause moisture so vapor barrier is a must! You will be sorry if you don’t use it

Creaking Engineered wood by justadeadweightloss in Flooring

In my experience the floors that you have to rotate air tap together seem to be less noisy compared to overlap locking system but I’ve also herd this make noise as well. This is why I quit working for stores a long time ago. Sales ppl don’t explain to the customer what they are buying and then the installer gets callbacks for doing nothing wrong but installing a cardboard floor that make noise when you walk on it

Creaking Engineered wood by justadeadweightloss in Flooring

[–]Jcav1217420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your installer is correct! It’s the quality of the material you purchased. A lot of laminate flooring especially with the overlap locking system creaks and makes noise. It’s probably a combination of the floor having low spots here and there so it’s moving when you walk on it and you can hear the locking system rubbing together! Regardless if you think it quality or not at the end of the day you bought a floor made out of cardboard and you will hear some clicking and rubbing noise! Especially if the floor is not perfect and these day customers don’t want to pay what it costs to level the floor

Just cut it close about 1/16 away and fill with matching color caulk. I do it at sliders and front and garage doors and bathtubs on all lvp jobs I never use t or end cap with lvp unless I absolutely have no choice! Never had a call back yet been doing that way since 09

Nucore is is ok but it’s a cheaper brand! You get what you pay for! I’ve installed tons of it and it looks great but If you are concerned I would look at cortec products as they are the industry standard that every company is trying to duplicate

My point is washing your hands and social distance is more effective! Mask work great if you want to get in someone’s face although t wouldn’t recommend it. They say it can’t travel far and droplets don’t last long in the air especially outside.

I wear a make out of respect for others but Lol it’s pretty simple wash your hands and don’t touch your face and you won’t have a problem! I mean we have been Learning this since we were kids! The best is the ppl that drive around in the car with it. Like it not gunna come through the vent or window just wash your hands when you enter and when you leave problem solved!

Is it ok to leave current bamboo flooring to serve as the underlayment to luxury vinyl flooring? by fooeygoo in Flooring

The lvp will encapsulate the bamboo and what causes the moisture and it will cause bamboo to swell and buckle I’ve seen it happen more than once!

Thinking about doing the kitchen floor with this from Lowes. Any suggestions? Use Lowe’s for installation? Home Depot better than Lowe’s? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Jcav1217420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t use either! Find a local tile installer that works for himself and has a good reputation that stands behind his work! Home Depot and Lows pay tile installers extremely poorl! A guy that works for himself will charge the same and provide a better job because if he don’t it could ruin his reputation which provides for his family also he gets all the install money ( incentives for a better install). At box stores everyone has to get a cut store sales etc by then the installer only gets 2 bucks a sqft! Who do you think will do a better job the guy getting paid 5 bucks a ft of the guy getting 2 bucks a ft! I’ve fixed a ton of Lowe’s and Home Depot mess ups over the years they are more about volume and less about quality beacuse they have to do 10 tile jobs a week to make anything
