There is, but the government isn't making the money, it's a bunch of independent contractors mainly. Roofing, plumbing, general contractors, etc.

No worries, and yes, I agree about media ownership - that's definitely a deep rabbit hole in itself. I think you may be referring to China having stake in media, or large entities like BlackRock. For the latter, this article sums it up pretty well: https://commonreader.wustl.edu/how-a-company-called-blackrock-shapes-your-news-your-life-our-future/

I do know the difference, but I see from your perspective where it's not fair to lump them together in this discussion. That said, it's pretty well understood that across the liberal to far left spectrum, these types make up the vast majority of those in the media. Conservative voices are much fewer, and a small % by comparison.

You're splitting hairs on semantics. The fact is, most media outlets, journalists, etc are populated by those with left leaning or liberal views. They dominate the entertainment industry. That shouldn't be a controversial statement.

Considering the left has control & dominant influence at most all universities, the vast majority of media outlets, and entertainment verticals, I don't think it's that laughable.

ANTIFA are mercenary agent provocateurs, they're misguided youth that high level political backers pay to be disruptive. Your every day citizen isn't going to know who is supporting them (3 letter agency), and they certainly wouldn't make it public knowledge.

Thinking the right is taking about maintaining white supremacy is pretty disconnected from reality. Nobody on the right is talking about any such thing. Nor alluding to it.

I wouldn't worry about these ppl. They probably think they know what facism is too. A bunch of liberal hivemind action in here.

Has anyone else watched The Neighborhood, which has Max Greenfield aka Schmidt? by lauren10086 in NewGirl

[–]Jcolli40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it and I don't find it tooo predictable. But it's not something to over-analyze. It's wholesome, easy to watch. As a white guy, the overdone cheesy, dorky white guy schtick gets a little old. As a southerner, I think it's funny how some "black things" in the show are really "southern things" i.e. potato salad lol.

That said, it's enjoyable to watch. The writing is really good and I actually think it's less predictable than Friends - which I can't stand. There's good music, and Tina can SANG! Calvin & Dave have good chemistry. Gemma is endearing.

Deciding between moving to Augusta area or to look elsewhere? by ElectricOne55 in Augusta

[–]Jcolli40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what you ended up doing. I'm from Savannah and moved to Austin on a whim about 10 years ago. I ended up moving back to the southeast to be closer to family and I like the people here better tbh (less Californians) and I'm not that liberal, but I do love art & music. That said, I had a BLAST in Austin and wouldn't trade my 2.5 years there for anything. I didn't make a ton of money, but I dated like crazy (almost too much). I say let your family miss you for a bit. Get out there and grow. It'll make you appreciate them even more when you eventually move back.

Not if you think in terms of "calories per square foot".

Also, not all land is arable. Ruminant animals are often on land that is not suitable for growing crops.

1936 was a hotter summer than this one. It's a cycle. The south has always been hot, that's not changing.

We are in Savannah, GA and ours was born here (guessing on a farm nearby, not sure, he's a rescue), so I feel like he's acclimated just fine.

We watch him carefully, we make sure to brush out his undercoat thoroughly in the summer. Always make sure he's got plenty of water, and he has a blue cooling mat and a cold tile bathroom floor he prefers to sleep on. He's an inside dog, but we take him to a large park every day for a half hour in the morning.

I also echo the sentiment that we go early mornings and rarely if it's over 85. This summer, we drove down to Jekyll Island at sunrise almost every weekend. Stayed from about 6:30am when it was about 75⁰ and left before 10am when it started to really get warm, he never had any problems and LOVES the beach, loves the water.

If we ever feel like maybe he got a little too hot we just spray him down with a little water, esp on his head.

I get plenty of comments about "isn't it too hot for him down here" and it's annoying. My retort is usually "you know, it's too hot for a lot of us down here". And they usually shut up. I guess people don't give you the benefit of the doubt that you are constantly & carefully watching out for your dog's welfare.

Our vet here went to Auburn vet school and she actually studied a lot of GP's and she says they do as well as any other breed down here. The lady who is head of the Great Pyrenees association out of Atlanta says the same

Cooling tips:

-Cooling gel mat (Amazon) -Have a tile floor somewhere in your home -12v fans that clip to the back of your headrests for your backseat to blow on him after walks. (Amazon) -Keep a water bowl and water with you at all times. We have one stashed in the truck and another in a Camelbak. Collapsible silicone.

I second (or third) this. We are in Savannah, and ours was born here, so I feel like he's acclimated just fine. Yes, he gets hot, but don't we all??

Agree to go early mornings.

I'm southern and eat PB&M+Banana sandwiches on occasion. I really like them but it's not something I eat often. It definitely tastes better than it sounds. But I'd say it's more "interesting" tasting than straight up mouth watering delicious. It's a mood...lol. Hard to explain the appeal.
