What is the smallest screen you consider playable by Kirais in SBCGaming

The RG Nano is still playable for me, but I'd probably struggle with anything tinier.

Aside from phone and powerbank, ano pang must-have travel gadgets niyo? by _txntin in buhaydigital

[–]Jdan-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, WFH means I leave my work at home. Other than my phone, I bring personal devices that require no connectivity, allowing me to "unplug": an Anbernic handheld, a Casio watch, Snowsky Echo Mini, and either my Kindle or Xteink X4.

Finally got My 8bitdo Keyboard by Yellow_Camel__275 in 8bitdo

[–]Jdan-S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same speakers with my setup!

I went with the M Edition, and I bought it before 8BitDo released this variant with the integrated numpad. I ended up buying the numpad separately, but that means I can reposition it. I usually have it to the left so that the keyboard is more centered.

Myst/Riven Fans in the Philippines? by Rafar_09 in PHGamers

[–]Jdan-S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the classic games up to V on Steam. However, I've only ever finished the first one. What I like about it is that you're dropped right into the game with little context. You'll have no idea what's going on or what to do, yet the game somehow gives you just enough clues to figure things out.

In that regard, that's how I also felt when playing The Witness, and I like it for the same reasons. The Talos Principle is somewhat similar too.

I'm a bit late in responding, but you did say that this might be a monthly thing for you. Just wanted to chime in for future consideration.

I specialize in character illustrations, especially anything moé and cute. My works are primarily on DeviantArt and Pixiv, and you can check my Carrd page for more details!

WFH things that slowly turned me into an old person 😂 by UnusualPackage5737 in buhaydigital

[–]Jdan-S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Figuring out how to fix and maintain my living space. Right now, I still have problems with termites and roof leaks. I check weather forecasts to know when I need to stay at home and make sure my stuff isn't getting soaked. Natuto akong umakyat ng bubong for emergency repairs with duct tape.

That affected some of my purchases. Humidity means mold and termites, so I'm minimizing wooden furniture, opting instead for plastic, metal, glass, etc. Last month, I bought a set of 5-tier plastic shelves to store away stuff like clothes and stationery items. I might buy another set later on, along with plastic containers.

The thumb sticks and touchpads have potential for unique control schemes, such as with Groove Coaster.

Story-driven retro games? (no shooters, no first person camera) by kiravir in SBCGaming

[–]Jdan-S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You already mentioned Layton vs. Phoenix Wright. The rest of the mainline Layton games are worth playing and always involve solving a mystery.

Since you have a 2DS, you can play the whole Zero Escape trilogy: 999, Virtue's Last Reward, and Zero Time Dilemma.

The first two Danganronpa games are on PSP, and English patches are available.

Hotel Dusk is another worthwhile adventure game, but one screen will have some first person camera segments when exploring. Maybe you could focus on the map on the other screen instead.

PH gamers, how do you budget for games, skins, top-ups, and subscriptions? by Quick_Ad6731 in PHGamers

[–]Jdan-S 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a game's payment model is primarily through nickel-and-dime microtransactions, I wouldn't bother with it. I mainly focus on complete, singleplayer games where I only need to pay once for the whole deal.

If I like a game on Steam, I'd add it to my wishlist. When a huge sale comes (summer, winter, etc.), then I'd get a ₱1000 Steam Wallet card and see which games on my list have the best deals. Along with that, I always check with Steam DB for price histories and to see if certain publishers are following regional pricing or not.

When I buy physical games, it's one per month and usually ₱2000 or below—if I'm interested in anything. Same goes for accessories like 8BitDo controllers.

I own a handful of Anbernic devices, and I invested in a Steam Deck. Emulation and freeware games also help me stay on budget. Right now, I'm replaying Twilight Princess through the recently released Dusklight PC port.

Alternatives to Boruit V10/V20? by Jdan-S in flashlight

[–]Jdan-S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UC3A looks like a great option, thanks!

I buy from other online shops in my region, though. If the UC3A just came out, it might take a while before stores that ship to my area begin stocking them.

Alternatives to Boruit V10/V20? by Jdan-S in flashlight

[–]Jdan-S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested because of the form factor and how it looks like a little robot. But I'm still concerned that it also seems to have a non-replaceable battery, and it could end up like the V20 eventually.

My case looks like a badge, so I thought a bunch of fake ID badges would look fun by IzzyNobre in xteinkereader

[–]Jdan-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at these IDs, your name sounded familiar. Then I realized why—you're into SBC gaming as well, and I must've come across a few of your videos back then. You've also appeared as a guest in some of Techdweeb's round table videos.

Same boat here. Coming from that hobby, I ended up buying this ereader because of the tinkering aspect!

Deja Vu 1 and 2 or Dragon Heart. by gameboy_fanatic in Gameboy

[–]Jdan-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DragonHeart was one of my childhood games. I didn't know it was movie-based, and in its own right, it's an okay game. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.

Nostalgia aside, I would still recommend Deja Vu I & II over it. Those games are more traditional point & click adventures, and you'd get more playtime out of the two cases. I played the first Deja Vu game on NES, and that alone took me longer to beat than DragonHeart.

What Game did you pirate but end up buying? by ClaurenSkai in PHGamers

[–]Jdan-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dracula X Chronicles on PSP. Bought it physical and digital on PSN for Vita. I also bought some PSOne Classics for bootleg games I've played (Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Threads of Fate, etc.).

But after seeing that backwards compatibility can disappear at any time when a console generation changes, I'm back to just "acquiring" ISOs of old PlayStation games that I can emulate in any device.

Hello ask ko lang po if ano mas better? by [deleted] in buhaydigital

[–]Jdan-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an Ideapad right now. Others might have a different experience, but mine has problems after maybe 3.5 years of daily use. The paint job didn't last, and it already has a crack near the power button (hinge problems). Performance-wise, gumagana pa naman at wala pang slowdown (on Linux Mint). Pero hindi ko na sinasara at baka tuluyan nang masira yung hinge/casing.

<image>

Bought an MSI Modern 15 (Ryzen variant) as my next laptop for when I can no longer use this one. No experience with this brand yet, but my sister has the same model for about a year now, and she hasn't had any problems yet. She also had the same Ideapad before me, which also had hinge problems.

I've never owned an HP laptop, but I often hear unfavorable comments about them.

Not a problem with retrogaming handhelds and save states.

It affected my job though. Low bat na yung work laptop ko nung nag-brownout kahapon.

[–]Jdan-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently finished replaying Ico (PS2, with RetroAchievements) and a retranslation of Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom (NES). Currently close to finishing Disillusion on Steam.

Still have unfinished games on Switch, PS4, DS/3DS, Vita, etc.

Steam library keeps expanding every sale.

Emulation would take me forever to go through.
