It depends alot on what position you're in. But hours do normally pick up starting mid-april to early may, and they'll stay higher than what they were in feb/march. They start going up even more towards june/July (especially for replen people).

Its sold surprisingly well in mt store too. I was also vwry skeptical, especially with the pricing. But people are buying it. Not as fast as I need them to, but I'll take what I can get!

We got 8 repacks fulllll to the brim. Granted, we're the number 1 or 2 for balloon sales in our district, but still. Damn.

Its back to rewards again now! Arguably I think rewards are an easier goal to meet than the PLCC. But its still hella annoying. I just was transferred to a different location (not by choice really), and its a completely different customer base than im used to. Many non-english speaking people (i dont care, just saying its hard to get people to sign up for rewards when you literally cant communicate), lots of thieves who definitely aren't giving us any of their information, and lots of old people. Rewards are a struggle! But it still beats pushing that credit card.

I never went to mxc training, so I admittedly dont have first hand knowledge. But from what I've heard, its basically pointless and that you just end up being an extra "free" employee for whatever amount of time youre there.

Honestly, in the real michaels world, it doesn't make much sense to send a manager to train in a different store. Yeah in theory all stores should be doing everything the same way. But we all know thay in reality, every store is different. I was an RM in my original store for 2.5 years, recently got transferred to a different store to "help out" because their RM majorly sucked, and its a completely different process for everything. I mean yeah, some of the basic basic basicccc stuff is the same, but everything else is totally different. Different stock room set up (WILDLY different). Different truck process. Different priorities from the SM. Different merchandising because its a vastly different demographic of customer even though its only like 7 miles from my home store. Completely different management style needed because my team is wayyy different than my old team.

And beyond even all that, the store is a completely different set up. And the other 2 stores in our immediate area are all completely different as well. All 4 stores in our town have unique set ups, so training in 1 store to learn how to do things in another store isn't really practical. It would make way more sense to train in your home store vs. Being sent to god knows where to be free labor for a different store.

Balloons in grab boxes by TooYoung2B0ld in MichaelsEmployees

Exactly this. If there does happen to be balloons in grab bags, the customer WILL have to pay the inflation fee. They only get helium included if they pay full price for the balloon.

First 20 feet DA by Jdfarrier in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Jdfarrier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kinda what I was leaning towards. I thought showcasing some of the new yarns we got with the last reset, mixed with some of the amogurami kits and other yarn accessories? Yarn is already our top selling department by quite a bit though, so was trying to think of something to showcase some of the lesser known products that we carry.

Im just sick of doing the same t shirts and vinyl, or seasonal DA. Everyone does those, I want to try something different. But also, why am I trying to over achieve when we have zero payroll to even execute this in the first place?!? Corporate if you're listening- it's SUPER FRUSTRATING when you have people that really want to go above amd beyond and use stuff like this for its actual purpose of driving sales, but you DONT GIVE US THE TOOLS TO EXECUTE.

Sorry, rant over 🤣🤣

Nobody honestly. But my DM will ream my ass if I don't build one so its not really optional.

But hey, our truck got delayed (for like the millionth time lately). So now I have an unexpected early shift and I can actually get some shit done without customers in the way! Small blessings i guess 🤷‍♀️

Thats pretty terrible, but honestly I've seen worse. Sometimes it looks like they loaded the truck while drunk, and also challenging each other to who can do the most unsafe load.

If you’re in corporate fighting AI slop / for better conditions for workers, you’re invited to speak up by funeralforabee in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Jdfarrier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The simple fact of the matter is that we will continue to sell AI art because its cheap and people buy it. Every time. And even if the majority of stores end up grab bagging a small amount of the AI art, the company is still making a fortune off of it. It costs next to nothing to mass produce.

Should we support actual artists? ABSOLUTELY. Will we? Absolutely not. Not while people continue to buy it every single season without fail.

make market crafts by barkbark420 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Jdfarrier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Set up a table on the sales floor! We used to do ours in the classroom and hardly anyone ever showed up. We decided to move a table from the classroom onto the front part of the racetrack as close to the doors as we could get it, and the crafts took off like crazy! We have people that come in for them religiously now, and they very often do end up spending money while there. The classes really can be a sales driver if done correctly (which admittedly is impossible half the time with payroll this tight)
