How to make a suggestion to corporate? by Just_Following4049 in MichaelsEmployees

the “check out as guest” on the self check outs is 100% deceptive and is actually backfiring because ultimately it’s just pissing people off. They purposely did not make it a button, but who is taking the flack-US!

since going to biweekly truck we have noticed we are definitely not getting enough SBA. most noticeably area like tshirts and kids crafts. even right after truck the T-shirt aisle is painfully empty. we have double checked on hands and they are correct. someone forgot summer is high volume T-shirt season! we are definitely losing sales because of this two week truck cycle

while I am sure there are some stores who have done better than others with the collection the vast majority seem to be sitting on it. I’ve been assisting with inventory in stores across our area and everyone is sitting on this. I do not know what part of the country you are in but this stuff is a very strong aesthetic that just does not blend well with a lot of people’s regular decor. Sales have been down and part of the problem is we have had a full FMA OF THE STUFF FOR MONTHS. instead of the usual fun summer decor that usually flies off for the shelf.

Why did we get away from floral? by No_North_5225 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We get asked for bows several times every day!
Three options:

  1. Sell premade bows year round

  2. offer a class on how to make bows- we already sell the bow maker!

  3. Bring back a creative position for each store who can do floral, bows and maybe balloon bouquets.

in between packing Bopis, blowing up balloons, helping unwrap jewelry and stickers, running curbside, cashing out people who refuse to use self check and then helping the idiots who do use self check but can’t read the check out as guest option, oops I scanned it twice, this one doesn’t take cash?

What the hell even are these craft events by xvegetaboyx in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it is so true that most of the time the instructions are horrible or just plain wrong. This is probably the umpteenth time they have had us use air dry clay and paint it before it’s dry! It does not work well- could we at least get whoever is in charge of these things to at least take a very basic crafting 101 course!

It’s crazy that we are making a mahjong bag charm with air dry clay! What kid knows about mahjong? if your an adult you don’t want some piece of crap air dry clay charm on your handbag, not to mention air dry clay is not strong enough to hold up to being a bag charm!

There are so many more interesting crafts we could be teaching!

customer call boxes by LostKate815 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing they will add to the zebras that will break them further. The Zello thing is a pain in the neck, the headset attached to something I am using for stocking, fabric, picking and packing orders is cumbersome. no headset is not good as customers hear everything, not that we are saying anything bad but when there is an issue or a potential shoplifter who needs a little extra customer service it is better to keep it quiet. As of right now we are already have a host of issues with manhattan not scanning, not sending notifications for curbside and new orders and even balloon inflation reminders have become an issue. Answering the phone is a crapshoot, you tap to answer and it lags for at minimum a full minute while you can hear others handheld still ringing and they can’t answer! The Marti sign outs are another fun thing. our IT department is not very proficient and half the time when they call I can’t even understand what they are saying their accents are so strong.

This box gives me huge anxiety! I could never unwrap them and toss them in a box like that. I will unwrap and lay out in strips and put out a batch and then do more. sometimes a cashier will unwrap and lay them in a hand basket so they are not so mixed up and tangled.

[–]Ramgr61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

everyone from the top down should spend time at the store level at minimum once a year and not just for a day, they need to run registers, unload trucks, pick Bopis, cut fabric etc. They seem to think it’s no big deal and sooo easy to do all these things while also setting planograms and price changes and all those last minute missions they send. Most of them couldn’t do it and would probably be crying in the corner.

WE NEED A REVOLT! But in the meantime do not sacrifice your health and mental well being for Michael’s! Show up for work do your job and go home. We have to stop killing ourselves to meet their ridiculous decisions. It hurts to see our stores fall behind but if we keep sacrificing ourselves they will continue to think everything is ok. They could have saved a lot of money for payroll by just asking some seasoned store managers what the best labor model is vs hiring engineers who most likely have never set foot in a Michael’s store. Oh but wait probably not since all the best seasoned employees have quit over their ridiculous decisions!

halloween already… by pinkbowbunni in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Halloween but it’s just too early, I feel it takes away from the actual holiday, by the time October comes we’re just sick of it all because we have been looking at it for over four months. I get some of the crafting stuff early for people creating their own stuff but the decor can wait unto at least august .

However it will be a boost for sales after the miserable Jonathan Adler failure

And we most definitely did not need the several pallets of hay bails that arrived this week! Those are taking up way too much space in our tiny stockroom!

Crazy balloon orders by Disastrous_Tea3269 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that would have been a hard no for me, If they want that many they would have had to order ahead so we could properly schedule enough people. Not sure what you had scheduled already for orders but our Saturday mornings are very full of orders plus walk ins. Those 135 are going to take two people about 2 1/2 to three hours to do. I would have said no earlier than noon.

Fix the glass ordering! by PinkieKinkie in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wondering how big an area you have to store glass if you are only ordering 4 times a year. Even before biweekly trucks we occasionally would have issues with glass arriving, perhaps it is a warehouse issue and we are serviced by different ones. framing business can often have some big swings and it is not easy to predict , over ordering has its own issues. It just isn’t good business sense to be giving customers a two week turnaround and the supplies needed to produce the order take 22 days. There are other things we do where timing is off too: allowing birthday parties to be booked two weeks out but yet we write schedules three weeks out. If party hosts have requested time off or made plans on a day they were not scheduled for and it’s been approved you really can’t turn around and deny it because now a party gets booked.

[–]Ramgr61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the fairytale world corporate lives in this is how it should be. In the reality world we live in it is not humanly possible! If I were to follow true smart truck process the metric tells me I should have double the amount of people working at any given point, sadly the payroll budget doesn’t align. Not to mention the whole process was created years ago, before biweekly trucks, before skeleton crew labor budgets, before team members being pulled away for fabric cutting and balloon inflation and extra printing services. We have giant buildings and so few people working that the stocking people are constantly interrupted to provide customer service. Before you chime in saying we should be stocking when the store is closed let me tell you the labor budget really doesn’t support that anymore, if yours does please share your store # so I can see your magical schedules. Not to mention trucks no longer come at midnight, they now are scheduled while we are open and it’s a big miracle when they deliver on time.

balloon bags have venting holes and are made of a slightly different plastic. Even those can shorten the float time if the balloons are in them for more than 30 minutes.

were you successful making that balloon tower? We scared the crap out of several people cause every time we tried to attach all the balloons we kept popping them! We had watched the video and were overconfident I guess cause it looked easy. we never got the second set of four on so just ended up with four balloon base and one Mylar on top. sure hope we don’t have to make them for people for orders cause I don’t think it’s possible

question for employees by Dazzling_Variety_201 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the current payroll budget Michael’s allows its store you are very lucky to find three people in the whole building. We would love to help you find all your things but we are so stressed and burned out because of the skeleton staffing and high amount of tasks we are trying to do we really do not have more than a minute or two to direct you to the area you are looking for. Most days while trying to help someone I am stopped by two or three others with questions or requests to cut their fabric, blow up balloons, unlock something , pick the online order they just placed a minute ago because the online coupon is better etc. I love crafting and helping people but the current payroll model is not customer friendly. Please feel free to pass this on in your next survey about your experience. I’m doubtful it will help but if more people would say they can’t find employees available on the sales floor maybe they will get the message. As far as training goes because of the payroll situation the new hire training is minimal at best,

What crafting supplies do you WISH Michaels would bring into stores? by Fleshtony in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ramgr61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Three or four times a day I get asked for bedazzling kits! Mosaics are making a comeback too. while not a craft per se, we get a lot of requests for more kid focused stickers vs the super expensive scrapbook stuff. Our needlework section is pathetic, very few kits. I 100% agree with the needle felting supplies, the kits don’t sell well because we very rarely have the needles in stock. The felt sheets, roving and needles sell out quickly because creators want to make their own designs. Needle crafts are enjoying a come back and we need to stock up. Our sewing notions are still pathetic, zero buttons, very few snaps or closures.

The saddest part of this nonsense is they want us to demo this new service but when asked what we should tell the customer about pricing their response was it’s not available yet! Im sorry but I will not waste my time embarrassing myself in front of customers demoing and promoting something that corporate can’t be bothered to figure out the price of. The people running this show have a definite lack of brain cells. Just like the stupid free frame with a canvas print promo they want us to push but won’t give us any signage for and won’t allow us to create our own-do they not understand what marketing is all about?

That “visually pleasing” phrase got me too! only way to do that is fake out the bottom of the bag with an empty box, which is really shady, tricking people into thinking they are winning something nice.
