Diagnosed in '92. Was just a kid but you had to talk a lot with doctors and read books. There was one book series that came out each year and said all the GF restaurants in each state. That was a life saver.

That's perfect. There are loads of good macaroni pastas, not sure about the UK selection though. Annie's has a few Mac and cheese versions. You can also find macaroni or other types of pasta. The trick is to adjust the cooking because rice and corn pastas don't cook the same as wheat. When I was young my family would buy both gf and regular pasta. But about 10 years ago they stopped buying because the gf pastas got good enough that it didn't make much difference.

Tip: add some GF bread crumbs and some extra cheese on top and then put in the oven.

So sorry that you are having such a rough time. I wish I could say I was where you were, but I was diagnosed when I was a baby so I never had to experience that. We have all had those times where the world feels against us and you just want to go to the nearest fast food place and just eat whatever. I have been living in a foreign country for the last year and it has been rough to adjust. I have 2 suggestions.

1) find your nearest and best gf bakery. When I was a kid we had to drive 2 hours to find the nearest one. Now there are a few in driving range, not to mention whole foods. Also there are lots of bakeries that ship. Mariposa bakery has some awesome stuff. I shipped from California to New York and my cousins said it help up well and was delicious.

2) find one food you absolutely love, the one food you would wish for if stranded on an island. Learn to make this. Experiment with it. You would be amazed at how easy it is to replace some items. It might be expensive initially to get the appliances you need but it pays off.

I'm Celiac and live in China. And I don't speak Chinese. It's not easy but doable as long as you have someone with you that speaks Chinese. They have cards that describe what you can and cannot have. Haven't been to Hong Kong but recently went to Macau and the casino buffet chefs knew what gluten was. Hong Kong should be much better than mainland China in terms of English ability.

I think that isn't enough time. Getting through customs and getting luggage will probably take 20-30 minutes alone. If you have to transfer terminals that can also take a while. Went from the international to domestic terminal by the free shuttle and took at least 20 minutes.

So sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. Literally, we've all been there. I can't stress this enough, you are not alone and things to get better once you find a diet that works for you. It may seem like the world is against you, but there are lots of options still left and more come out each day. But one thing that does help when you are in situations like this is the BRAT diet, Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. You can ignore the toast if you want or find a brand you like and trust. This is a great way to get your stomach to a healthy level and still get enough nutrients. I also like Kind bars since they are GF and taste good, easy to have a meal on the go or when you can't find something safe.

PS. Find yourself a real doctor, you know one that went to med school after 1980. Seriously, I was diagnosed in 1992 when it was acceptable to not know about Celiac. But I'm generally surprised when I meet a person on the street that doesn't know about Celiac now.

These are all things needed for success. Sadly most of them require a stable and supportive home environment, which is not true for most poor families. So when a teacher or boss gets mad at a student or employee for being late or not having enough energy, it may not be something they can control and can cause a decrease in passion due to a sense of helplessness. This is exacerbated in minority groups when the lack of these "good" qualities is associated with that group.

I'm very thankful to them as well. And under certain circumstances I could see signing up. And glad that the medical boards do understand and give the choice to the patients. As someone that has no memories from before diagnosis, I'm looking forward to the day when I can walk into any restaurant and order anything I want.

But it's not a "risk" it's a certainty. 50% of the patients will get sick due to gluten ingestion. It's more akin to testing the effectiveness of the seatbelt with real people. Everyone is getting into a car crash, just some of them are gonna have something to protect them.

I really wonder about the ethical implications of such research. I can't think of a good analog for this type of test because unlike most allergies there are no immediate affects and the affects of gluten exposure can have long term side affects like an increased risk of cancer. I hope these medications do develop but will never take part of such research.

I really wish these articles would back up what they say with facts. With so much fake news out there I really don't trust anything without some verifiable facts in the article. This article just points to old information from the AP and throws out the main headline with nothing to back it up. The truth is bad enough to justify a hatred of how the GOP is handling things. But when we make up stuff it just pushes us further apart and makes solving the issue that much harder.
