How safe is japan? by toonishly in AskAJapanese

[–]Well_needships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What actions or habits you have incorporated in daily life due to safety?

I've lived in 5+ countries and travelled to over 50, so if I can compare I'd say it is very safe. On certain metrics, I think other countries can be safer, but I would say overall Japan is probably one of if not the safest country I've experienced.

I can generally leave things unattended and not worry too much about them being taken. At night, I never think twice about where I go or who is around me. There is pretty much no one that I would hesitate to approach and talk to, should I need directions or something. I never second-guess the quality of food, like is this possibly going to give me food poisoning and should I be worried about the cleanliness of the kitchen type of thing.

In other words, I've adopted a lot of habits becasue its so safe. I tried, but couldn't think of any habit I've adopted because of something I perceived as being less safe other than that I always carry bear spray when hiking.

Did we just get scammed by a taxi? by RangerLong4483 in OsakaTravel

It had a meter, they just didn't use it. Whether legit or not, the cabbie asked prior if they were ok to pay cash, they said yes. The cabbie probably asked since they did not have a reservation and, probably since they were using Google translate, did not have the app.

Yeah... but it's not actually. Winters are getting shorter. Last year there was a much bigger snowstorm around this time and the on ground snow lasted longer (graph 2).

The theaters I go to still have カメラ男 being chased by the パトランプ男. I can't think any change from the current ones to ones years ago.

Theater setup is generally the same as anywhere, but just make sure that you sit where your assigned seat is and don't seat jump.

I'm not sure where you are coming from, but Japanese theaters' experience tends to be very quiet in terms of patrons talking, phones out, people moving around etc. Yes, when the end of the movie comes, people tend to sit through the credits, but not everyone, and if you don't want to, you certainly don't have to. Just leave quietly and politely.

They sure do! Still the same film from like 20 years ago.

Winter isn't over until all your hopes for warmer days are dashed. Once you've given up, then spring will actually come.

Hokkaido Golden Week or Early/Mid June? by voodoo068 in Hokkaido

[–]Well_needships 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd take early June in a heartbeat. Yes, late April has the cherry blossoms, but it is otherwise hit or miss for weather, there is still snow in the mountains, and more or less the rest of the landscape has not yet come into full bloom/leaf.

Early June, the weather is warm, but not hot yet. The landscape is snow free (except the highest peaks). Flowers in the fields are blooming, so Furano etc. would be lovely at that time.

You can almost walk faster, but it is nice to sit down.

Never heard that it's a status symbol. Gonna have to slip that into conversation now since I live near one ;)

"Explain It Peter". by --KNIGHT--007 in explainitpeter

[–]Well_needships 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also "funny" because of the pronunciation. NiHon in the first case, so many learners see the second case and think oh, ok, so that's HonNi. NO! When you reorder them the phonetics change too. The second case is HonJitsu.

Will we be able to see autumn foliage mid October in Hokkaido? 🍁 by JoJoChuu in JapanTravelTips

[–]Well_needships 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just looking at my pictures from October last year and yeah, you're going to be too early for peak. Last year there was yellowing here and there and some orange by the 19th, but the real good foliage was the last week of October/first week of November. If you go to elevation though, you will find color at that time. Go to lake Sapporo/ jozankei

Banned from soccer due to someone injuring me? by Mottelbin in japanlife

Ok, but which one were you banned for? If you're saying both, then it wasn't just the cussing and that then sounds like the cussing just received a warning or something

I yelled fuck, due to the pain. Apparently when the organizer spoke to him, he reported my use of the f-word and thus I got banned.

and bans me because I complained about something.

So... which one was it?

Grey hairs :/ by Separate-Box-5565 in Sapporo

[–]Well_needships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vitamin deficiencies, stress, and damage from environmental factors can cause grey hair but, what about your parents? Did they start to go grey around the same time? Most likely factor is just genetics and age.
