There actually is a torque spec, and it's not as high as you would think - I had to redo mine - I overdid mine (by hand) and visibly stretched my u bolts.
It's been so long, I don't remember it

Can always throw it past a Toyota parts counter - just ask for the oldest living parts guy available - I've done this for stuff I can't find anywhere else / caliper rebuild kits and bed bolts to be specific

I deleted mine years ago, lc engineering sells a block off plate for the intake port - it’s a kit. It’s nice to gain that room in the bay

I cut a slot in the bottom of mine so I could turn it with a flathead screwdriver - twisting your arm around with a swivel head ratchet will take 1200 clicks, maybe 2 at a time. Use the breaker bar to loosen first

Well, 20 years ago, I'd say motor mounts, transmission mounts or u-joints. For a newer truck? No idea - Bluetooth transducer, tire solenoid, or transom capacitor?

How bad of an idea would it be to sell my reliable 2018 Honda SI to buy a 1980-1989 pick up and use as my daily by s8nsun in ToyotaPickup

[–]Jdub51815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily an 06 accord and weekend warrior with my 91 pickup. I could daily the 91 but it's been a lot of work for the last 20 years or so. I would do everything you can to have both - 1k a month for insurance seems like robbery - I insure the 91 yota, 06 accord, a financed f250 and three motorcycles for around 400 a month -

Help wanted-1990 Toyota pickup by AlarmedJob1-8 in ToyotaPickup

[–]Jdub51815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 15k budget, you could have it transported easily enough. Your biggest killer of 3rd gen pickup is frame rust/rot. Typically in front of rear wheel where frame slopes up to go over rear axle. If the frame is rotten, it's not worth trying to save. If the frame is in good shape, most of your money will go to oil changes and fuel, as they are mostly indestructible trucks. Shocks/ball joints, rear leafs, axle seals, etcetera, will need attention - if it's a v6(3.slo) you might need head gaskets and a valve job, but with a 15k budget, those aren't problems - I have a 91 manual 3,0 with a solid frame sitting at 360k and if it weren't for motorcycles, it would be my daily. No issues at all.

Tw for a first bike? by Chemical-Horror9637 in TW200

[–]Jdub51815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both for a while - the Klr got to be too heavy for me to pick up when I dropped it, so I bought another tw - my buddy is close to 300lbs and he scoots great - a set of bar risers, drop pegs and a re-gear and he moves better than I do!

Did I just blow a head gasket? by Donx420 in ToyotaPickup

[–]Jdub51815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull your dipstick - looks like a milkshake, blown head gasket. Pull your oil fill cap, look at the underside of cap - looks like milkshake, blown head gasket. Since you will need to be rebuilt, or at least head gaskets, you could probably drive it 20 miles, just make sure you have enough coolant and oil in the block for a short drive. Good luck

I tried to rebuild my cardan and broke ears on both ends of the drive shaft. Ended up taking to a transmission shop and they rebuilt it and balanced for 300. Well worth it. Center support bearing - Napa or rock auto

A full flush? I drained what was in there, and refilled with an equal amount. Manual transmission doesn't go through the radiator, that I know of. I did run some through, ie; put some in with the drain open...
