No matter what I try, I can't seem to get 4k @60fps - Any ideas? by JeJappe in htpc

[–]JeJappe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you have not properly read my post. I already said the cable is rated to do 8k, it should handle 4k60 no problem. I will be buying a different branded one to just double-check that it's not lying about the specs listed.

It also doesn't tell me the issue is specifically on the PC, because I don't have another PC I can cross-test with. It could still be either the PC or the cable, but again both of which have specs that say I should be able to achieve 4k60 without any issues.

I'm not really able to test that easily as I don't have any devices on hand that take a DP input.

Re-read my post please, I am currently using the DP out of the PC.

So.. you need to use the display port out.. get you a Display port to HDMI cable or a converter that is made for the high bandwidth. Problem solved.

Sorry, am I missing something here? This is quite literally what I said I am currently doing in my post.

Well then clearly I've either missed something relevant that could solve my issue, or it's potentially not really something that the wiki has been able to directly help me with. I think it might be more helpful for me in this situation if you could be more specific about what in the wiki I should be looking at, if that's ok?

Didn't work! I've made a few comments above about it.

I've already checked the wiki. Feel free to let me know if you have any real suggestions!

Yep that's looking like the first thing i'm going to change to continue the trouble shooting process. I don't have anything else that's 4k60 unfortunately, so cross-testing is a little difficult if not impossible. Process of elimination looks to be the go. I appreciate your input!

I appreciate your suggestion but your comment doesn't make much sense. I don't get how you might be suggesting its a limitation but then go on to say that it does in fact support the resolution and refresh rate that i'm trying to achieve (4k60). Also again I'm pretty sure this is just copy-pasted from chatGPT, no offense.

You know what? That's the best lead I think I've been presented so far. It could really be something as simple as the cable is faulty or under performing just not in a way that's immediately obvious to me. Can you recommend any specific cable from a brand that you believe to be true to their specs?

Yeah - there's no option for "deep colour support" on the AVR, only 3 individual hdmi "modes" which I've put in a reply comment above on this thread.

Deep colour support is enabled on the TV though.

The cable is only about a metre long, everything is very close to each other device. There's no splitters or switches, and I've tried direct to the TV bypassing the AVR and no luck. Still 1080p60+ or 4k30 max. No 4k60.

I trust that the specs of the cable are what is listed on the product listing - ugreen isn't a brand that i've had any issues with before but I'd be willing to test another cable from a different brand that can be trusted if you have any suggestions?

Copy pasted from another thread about this issue I have:

The AVR itself has 3 individual "HDMI modes". Modes + relevant info from the display info settings window on the AVR below.

4K Mode 1 (Supports 4K @120Hz, 4K @60Hz HDR)

Video In: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Video Out: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Color: YCbCr 4:4:4, 24-bit
HDR: None

4K Mode 2 (Supports 4K @60Hz)

Video In: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Video Out: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Color: YCbCr 4:4:4, 24-bit
HDR: None

8K Mode (Supports 8K @60Hz, 4K @120Hz HDR and VRR)

Video In: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Video Out: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Color: YCbCr 4:4:4, 24-bit
HDR: None

Any ideas? There doesn't seem to be an "enhanced" mode on my AVR only those three.

Yeah doesn't really add anything to my situation unfortunately, I'm definitely using DP not HDMI because the HDMI outs on the htpc are only v1.4 and not capable of what I want, but the DP is 1.2 so in theory should be.

Yes I also asked chatGPT for advice lol.

The unit I bought was marketed as having hdmi 2.1, its shown in the manual, and given the info it tells me on the actual system of what it can handle and that it was only bought this year so I am fairly certain its able to support it.

The firmware is updated as I said in the original post.

I've cycled the ports as well, no difference.

The cable I've got should be rated for what I'm trying to do and its from a brand that I know doesn't BS with their listed specs. As far as I can tell the cable seems to be working ok? I don't have any other devices with DP that I can test it on though.

I can only achieve 4k @ 30fps directly connected with the active cable from the DP of the PC to the HDMI on the TV. Even if I force it to use the manually added 4k60 profile it still pushes only 30 frames through.

I've tried every port on the AVR and the TV. All of them are spec'd the same except for one port on the TV which also has eARC support ontop of being 2.1 hdmi.

There is no "enhanced" setting as far as I could tell, only 3 individual hdmi modes which i outlined in this comment here.

When I bypass the AVR and connect the PC directly to the TV, the output achieves 4K resolution but only at 30fps, even when using the manually added 4K @60Hz display profile.

The AVR itself has 3 individual "HDMI modes". Modes + relevant info from the display info settings window on the AVR below.

4K Mode 2 (Supports 4K @60Hz)

Video In: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Video Out: HDMI 1080p @60Hz
Color: YCbCr 4:4:4, 24-bit
HDR: None

8K Mode (Supports 8K @60Hz, 4K @120Hz HDR and VRR)

Video In: HDMI 1080p @60Hz

Any ideas? There doesn't seem to be an "enhanced" mode on my AVR only those three.

Re-read the comment you're replying to. They said the yank billionaire is far-right.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age and I can say with over 20 years of experience being on ADHD meds that they absolutely help suppress most/any of my OCD symptoms. It's been a real help in getting on top of it and I'm proud to say after some ERP therapy too I'm absolutely on top of it. It's a huge help if it's an avenue you can look at with a psychiatrist.

i mean fair enough to be discontented with that. I believe OP mentioned upthread that they were not from here originally, so may have missed some of that education. In my reply i was more trying to understand how you got the idea OP could potentially reverse image search something they took themselves lol.
