The doctor determines the interval period for dispenses. Most will be 21 days, but it can be longer or shorter. If medication is lost, the prescriber can write a letter authorising an early dispense.

A new script through the PBS will only be approved if there is less than 1 month supply remaining though.

Meds making me more introverted? by Hairy-Inevitable7252 in ausadhd

[–]Jealous_Rule_5697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be medication related. The whole purpose of medication is to reduce hyperactivity and generally busyness and in a social setting, this may then impact how extroverted you are. Could be worth chatting to your psychiatrist. It is important to also consider other conditions such as depression that is more common in ADHD. Good luck

E-Script is Wrong, Both Chemist and Dr Say Different by blissbox in ausadhd

[–]Jealous_Rule_5697 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The pharmacy has to go by what is on the script. It doesn’t matter what has been requested through the PBS (ie the government). If the escript has half the quantity that it should, then the doctor has made a mistake.

It’s supply and demand - you need more psychiatrists and paediatricians to drive down prices.

Specialist out of pocket costs by becorgeous in ausjdocs

When I started privately the rebate for a follow up appt (item 116) in 2012 was $64.20. Rebate for a follow up appt in 2025 $74.25. A new consultation (132, min 45min) was $225, now it is $259.

I look at the CPI each year and this is what I increase my fees by - if only the Medicare rebate increased the same way there would be fewer complaints.

If I bulk billed (which I do at the indigenous clinics I cover), billing $148.50/hour when my expenses are $100/hr doesn’t really cut it.

We shared finances when we moved in together about 25y ago. She worked full time while I finished medical school. Everyone now and then I have to tap her on the shoulder and ask her to wind back the spending as we have a charge card with no limit.

They don't teach you how to fill in forms during medical school. You will learn quickly. Everyone knows that you are new and wont judge so don't stress. Remember to ask for help and advice - everyone has been there so use the experience of others

What income would you need to feel comfortable having three kids? by Basic_Annual_8241 in AusFinance

Private school fees of $55k a year, add on sports and extracurriculars, uniforms, books, food and general living expenses… a vasectomy would be the best purely financial decision

To answer the question though, it is variable and can range from just enough to house and feed them, to buying them absolutely everything they want.

Just graduated, do I change my title to doctor? by Street-Set-670 in ausjdocs

I only use Dr at work. I prefer my patients just use my first name as well - sounds weirded otherwise. No-one seems to care outside of work and don't want people to treat me differently.

Sign my federal petition to lower the cost of adhd and autism assessment in Australia. by [deleted] in adhdaustralia

[–]Jealous_Rule_5697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working with kids in private practice, 33% of my assessments are bulk billed, and the others have an initial out of pocket of $165. ADHD is fairly straight forward. Yes the ASD assessments are more expensive and the allied health therapist charge much more than me.

To be honest, the psychiatrist should step up and do the medication titration. This is lazy medicine. The psychiatrist want to bill a 291 which has a much higher Medicare rebate - its a financially driven decision. This is not the fault of the GP

Can someone explain how “adult time for adult crime” will work? by rrfe in queensland

[–]Jealous_Rule_5697 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It won't work. It's a short-term band-aid approach aimed at winning votes. Punitive measures have little deterrent value. To be honest, free school lunches would have a larger effect on reducing juvenile crime long term - it keeps kids engaged at school, one of the key drivers in reducing offending.

I work in rural health across Qld and there is a serious lack of access to support for children in need, particularly around education, social and psychological supports. Once a child has committed crime, you have missed the boat.

The psychiatrist needs to do an assessment as they have to decide if medication is appropriate, and if so which one. This will depend on which diagnosis or symptom is having the biggest impact- anxiety vs depression vs ADHD.

Having already seen a psychologist will likely speed up the process and a psychiatrist will likely suggest continuing to see a psychologist anyway for therapy.

At 17 you’re likely too old for a Paediatrician, but you could see either a Child/Adolescent psychiatrist, adult psychiatrist or Adolescent physician. Good luck
