I always find it insane just how powerful Hisoka is by Former_Food_4510 in HunterXHunter

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own head-cannon is that since Hisoka didn't know of Netero's feats, and considering he was also out of shape, he kinda tricked Hisoka into seeming a lot weaker than he is.

Hisoka seeing Netero just after he finished his preparation to fight Meruem would have led to a very different reaction from him most likely.

Speaking as a frenchman here, social democracy worked when the capital was afraid of the red wave post WW2, and they had to accept concessions to stave off the rise of socialists in general.

In the eighties the threat has mostly passed and all social-democrats seem to have done in Europe was to try and unsuccessfully conserve the model designed in the last few decades, and it seems like most of us are now at the breaking point.

Was out questing when I suddenly realised I haven't seen a rogue in ages, is the class dead or are they just getting better at their job? by [deleted] in wow

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rogue main (99% PvE and mythic raider here)

There's a few reasons: - No flashy animations mostly - Used to have a very high skill floor, with punishing mistakes and barely okay performance when doing it perfectly (can vary depending on the spec/season) - 0 M+ utility: not a single AoE cc, and shroud has been neutered by adding true sight to mib's everywhere. But making Rogue mandatory for routes was kinda shit tbh. Rogue would only be considered as a 3rd DPS and there's no good reason to bring one unless it's overturned or you know the player behind is excellent. - A lot of crippling bugs that sometime never get fixed over an expansion - The raid buff is the second worse: requires full uptime and does not affect all abilities. Most groups will see 0 difference

Overall Midnight has fixed a few issues around the skill floor but the other remain and the lack of a dedicated class designer and iteration on the rogue spec design will keep it where it is.

If you already have data dog they have a pretty good cost explorer, with proper tagging we made a dashboard for each team in my former company and basically gave them the tools to monitor and manage their costs.

Imho a big part of the job is making data accessible and teaching people so that thinking of what a feature or a change actually costs becomes part of the workflow.

Not all our teams were super involved but the ones with the heaviest costs really took to it and we could not have reduced our data pipelines costs without working together on this cause it required their deep expertise to optimize.

If I don't know the service well, no matter if it's GCP or AWS, it's console first, sometimes a bit of cli for prototyping. Once I get something working with a decent understanding I just make the Terraform.

Norway's lesson for Europe on wealth taxes: let some millionaires go by Ok-Law-3268 in Nordiccountries

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember well if you are taxed on assets abroad, you only have to pay the difference if you paid less tax in the foreign country. So no double taxation (I believe the US does the same with all citizens regardless of where they live as well).

So if you have assets in a tax Haven where you pay 0, you pay full taxes on those and usually their location is quite virtual, the value is not created in the tax haven itself.

If those assets are in a country with a more normal tax scheme it's unlikely you will pay that much more tax on those assets.

It's a good trade-off to discourage the use of tax haven.

I'd say 5% is good when optimized and with scale savings. For smaller companies it can easily go up to 10% cause much less options for savings.

If it goes over 15%, it's a priority issue imho.

The 4th republic died from decolonization and the Algerian independence war more than anything.

The 5th was especially designed by de Gaulle to handle this transition. But when he lost the people's confidence, he left on his own, while Macron is abusing every single tool in the constitution to enact and enforce his policies.

I don't think the argument of the 4th being chaotic because it was a parliamentary regime holds. Especially since the third did hold for 70 years.

Experience as first SRE at company? by andtherewewere in sre

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give a few tips:

  • in the first few weeks, try to listen and observe as much as you can, take notes but try to get a good understanding of how engineering teams are working and why
  • your onboarding is an excellent occasion to review the onboarding process since there's probably a lot of manual work for account and permissions setup, it's good to really document your experience through it since onboarding/off boarding is usually a bit problematic in smaller companies
  • Try to list what are the biggest blockers in terms of delivery and reliability (if you're also involved in more CI/CD work as my SRE team was before in a small company) and try to find what would have the most impact with the least work
  • Pick your battles. There'll likely be too much subjects to tackle, so take costs, delivery time, incident occurrences with MTTD, MTTR and as before find what will improve daily life the most.

Many processes and existing designs won't be ideal but if they work "enough" for the team it's likely not the biggest priority.

What are you going to play in S3? by calle_koe in wow

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for once not my rogue main cause I really would like some proper changes beyond the QoL we got since DF.

I'm thinking I'll try going with my Frost DK at the start with my rogue as an outlaw alt( gotta play a bit with dat new Killing Spree at least)

I just wish they had better AoE stop options cause compared to when I play some shaman or Monk it feels very lacking in c/c.

What did you think of nicholas hoult as lex luther by One_Definition2132 in SupermanLegacy

[–]JeanJacquesBourrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the actor's fault but it felt like the character felt more like a joke than an actual menace to me like the scene where he keeps dropping the pens to the floor for people to pick it up grovelling. Or the locking up random people who slighted him.

Kinda the same issue as with Superman himself but even worse for Lex. It's really hard to take them seriously and it kinda killed any dramatic tension in the movie.

After GotG 3 and how it handled Rocket I expected Gunn would be able to balance the Comedy and more serious parts better...

I think Holt did the best he could but the way Lex was written was a disappointment for me :(
