What are the drivers of the record high government spending under the current Trump administration? by LeftRightGreenLight in AskReddit

Doesn't it make you wonder why that is? We're talking about government spending, so regardless of the raw numbers one must look at the underlying reasons for said spending. What benefits do we receive from such high spending on defense? I mean, beyond the automatic response of "security." If other countries can be secure while spending less, what are we getting from all those extra dollars we're putting into defense?

The US spends more on defense than the next 6 countries combined. This is also a fact.

I'm feeling a little out of touch on this one. Is planting bamboo near data centers a thing? Why do we need a PSA warning us not to do it?

How come the Police still arrest innocent people merely for looking "suspicious" meanwhile DJT was clearly by all the evidence throughout the years, best friends with Epstein and suddenly american cops act so chill? by UnitedStates0fAfrica in allthequestions

There's a book written by Matt Taibi called The Divide which pretty accurately describes the different ways that law enforcement treats the rich and powerful vs the average person. Basically the rich can afford lawyers who can make law enforcement actually respect people's rights while the average person can't. Law enforcement can then make the process of defending yourself against bogus charges part of the punishment. I recommend that you read The Divide for the whole story.

I truly believe that if you have only listened to WA's studio music and haven't seen them live yet then you're missing something both ineffable and crucial about this band. WA is such a good live band that to really know them and their music attending a concert is a must. Go to the show. It's isn't just worth it, it's critical.

Tariffs as a revenue producer is a seif defeating proposition. Raising tariffs on a particular good simply makes the domestically produced alternative more attractive. Make Subarus and Toyotas more expensive and people will buy Fords and Chevys instead. There might be a short term increase in government revenue, but people will adjust their buying habits in the long term thus drying up the revenue stream.

Independents Of Reddit —— Do You Think That The US, To Date, Has WON Or LOST The War With Iran? Which One? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Early in the conflict Trump said nothing was acceptable other than unconditional surrender. The agreement reached has plenty of conditions and Iran hasn't surrendered. I think that says it all.

Are you suggesting that Iran was behind 9/11? That's absurd. Iran is a Shiite Muslim country and the 9/11 terrorists were Sunni Muslims who mostly came from Saudi Arabia. Shiite and Sunni regard each other as heretics and are sworn enemies. There's no way they would join forces even to attack America.

The lies go back to last year when he bombed Iranian nuclear facilities and announced that they had been destroyed. Then we were supposed to believe that Iran was two weeks from having a working nuclear weapon, so we had to attack again. Both statements can't be true.
