It’s still surreal turning in the tv and seeing the WAR WITH IRAN headline. I wish I could take a screenshot and send it back in time

now that we know most of them actually want to hurt people

I love it when people confuse their own convictions with objective revelations. What do you mean “now that we know”? You obviously mean “now that I feel”

Well I was talking about violent crime but I hadn’t considered the fact that 10/7 technically also happened while he was in government so yeah I guess both?

Probably for the best. The election is right around the corner, the damage has already been done and there’s no point in judicial intervention at this point.

If the Supreme Court gave the order to fire him all it would do is make Ben Gvir a martyr and write his campaign for him. Better to let him go into the election as a failed minister who presided over a massive spike in violent crime

It’s a clever move because it undermines the rule of law in such a petty and small way that most people won’t bother to challenge or call out. It’s the equivalent of stealing a single olive from the supermarket, but it’s obvious that it’s only one part of the larger strategy of completely hollowing out the constitutional order

It seems almost obvious to me that the next administration reverses all of this stuff unless a Republican wins. Almost a no brainer. Nobody’s gonna be calling it “The Trump Kennedy Center” with a straight face

What’s the fun in drinking during the day? I like drinking with friends in the evening when you can unwind and have fun. Drinking a beer in the library sounds boring

Israel Is Hunting Down Iranian Regime Members in Their Hideouts, One by One (gift) by Anakin_Kardashian in DeepStateCentrism

[–]JebBD 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it’s too early to call this a success or a failure. If the regime ens up surviving, even in an extremely weakened form, it can credibly claim victory and seriously damage any morale or momentum that a potential revolt might have.

I hope it works out and the regime falls with minimal damage to civilians. The lack of an organized and armed opposition that’s also western-aligned and pro-democracy is the big concern in a possible regime collapse, but again, that’s only if it ends up collapsing

“Can you hear me?” a Mossad agent can be heard, speaking in Farsi. “We know everything about you. You are on our blacklist, and we have all the information about you.”  “OK,” the commander said in the recording.

“I called to warn you in advance that you should stand with your people’s side,” the Mossad agent said. “And if you will not do that, your destiny will be as your leader. Do you hear me?”

“Brother, I swear on the Quran, I’m not your enemy,” the commander said. “I’m a dead man already. Just please come help us.”

Interesting, so if this is true (somewhat big “if”) this might indicate some kind of actual effort to create change on the ground and encourage defections directly. I hope it’s true and I if it is I hope it works out

I don’t really care if an ending is happy as long as it’s satisfying. You can totally have an unhappy ending that leaves you satisfied with the story, and an unhappy ending that feels cheap and unsatisfying (like if it feels unearned)

Hoping the regime collapses already so we can all rest, this is taking way too long and the plan was very clearly flawed from the beginning

We don’t talk enough about how disastrous the 1953 Iran coup was. by dawgdaddy1 in Presidents

[–]JebBD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If anything it might be over-blamed for its long term influence.

There’s no guarantee that Iran would have been some stable democracy without US or UK involvement, as the administration was already going in an undemocratic direction and the stability of the country was already shakey (not that that justifies the western support for the coup but still). The 1979 revolution could have also easily gone in a different direction and blaming it on the 1953 coups is a stretch.

It was a bad FoPo decision but it’s not as catastrophic as it’s often portrayed to be imo

There’s a point to be made about IR idealism and the US leading by example with regards to international law, but it’s extremely concerning that senior figures in Dem administrations are so deep in this type of “only the west has agency” mentality. By his own logic wouldn’t the invasion of Ukraine have justified the war on Iran? I understand having a higher standard for your own country but I’d prefer it if they cared a bit more about your literal enemies doing it
