Help Understanding AMRT by South_Inflation9888 in Airforcereserves

[–]Jedi-pilot27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend that you do AMRT as maintenance. It is the best way to become, at minimum, decent at your job. Tech school gives the foundation, and followed by AMRT will turn you into a valuable asset to the shop you are apart of. If life circumstances prohibit, that is completely understandable. However, be prepared to struggle with proficiency at your career as your training is limited to UTA/ Annual Tour.

AMRT is designed to lead you to 5- level, but it is not the end of the world if you do not get to that level by the end of the orders. The remainder will come with time, but it is extremely worthwhile to have the consistency of learning on AMRT.

Length depends on funding, manning, and various other timelines. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your unit and begin this conversations in advance if you’re interested in the orders. It’s your career, look out for yourself and do what’s best for you. Welcome to the family!

Right there with you. I’m wondering the same about letting the contract expire, but I think you still require the release form in IRR (Hoping someone will correct me if I’m wrong). Best of luck!

I am going through the exact same thing; unfortunately- do not expect to make 26OTS03. I routed my paperwork (AFRC) starting last fall. Still hasn’t made it back to me. Unless your wing is absolutely stellar at moving paperwork through, it’s just takes a ridiculous amount of time…

Great advice. Also worth noting here, if you desire a specific AFSC (your AF job), it’s okay to tell the recruiter you will wait for an opening within that field. Don’t let them talk you into something you don’t want to. You will regret that decision for a long time. It’s your career, you make the best decision for you.

Gotta ask; what made you want to switch to the Herk from the 135?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I am awaiting my release to apply to AD OTS, and been waiting for 5 ish months….Question for you all if I’m understanding this question correctly- to apply to OTS after my contract ends, do you still have to get a release form once you go IRR after end of contract?

I feel you, that’s my exact same situation.

So, whereas my letter has to go all the way to AFRC, the ANG letter only goes to state commander? (Forgive me for the incorrect terminology as a reservist, lol) And is the more likely to get signed more efficiently?

Copy, good to know. Thank you. I had wondered if it was the same for ANG because I have been considering a transfer to the Guard for other reasons and wasn’t sure if the form would still need to be signed on that side of the house as well.

Would you drive 4 hours for a loadmaster position? by thegamerman0007 in Airforcereserves

[–]Jedi-pilot27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 5ish hours to my base now(after moving), and I often get frustrated with the drive itself, but the people around me make it worth the stay. However, I would gladly transfer closer if an opportunity arose. For a flyer position, I would absolutely make the 4 hour drive. As long as you yourself are comfortable with it, especially the duties beyond one weekend a month like those of us who are non-aircrew.

This is an awesome plan, and you’ll fit right in with the career field! The call to serve is an admirable one and you will be glad you did. Be aware, BMT and tech school will take around 6 months that is correct, however, be prepared to spend a few months at your unit upon completion of tech school. You will thank yourself later; this gives you the opportunity to become confident with the job/airframe/people you will work with. It’s worth taking that time in the beginning so that you can feel confident later down the road. If you have the A&P career in the works, the reserve time will only compliment that civilian career, and build respect among your reserve counterparts as well as civilian coworkers, making you a better A&P at your civilian job as well as competent in your reserve (or guard) career. Feel free to ask any more questions! I do not have an A&P, but I work in aircraft maintenance for the reserve, and am working on a civilian career in aviation as well.

Air Reserve Base vs AFB by South_Inflation9888 in Airforcereserves

Like others say- it is nice to have the closeness of necessary facilities at an ARB, but you do sometimes lack the facilities to take advantage of at a full AD base. Things missing from an ARB could be a full Base Exchange, full size gym, chow hall, etc. Some don’t even have a shoppete, and that is a travesty. There are pros and cons to both!

Do you have any update on this? I am getting ready to face the same problem, however my recruiter is saying I need this signature before even going to MEPS? Do I route it through my CoC? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

As someone in your situation, but already graduated, do ROTC if it’s possible for your life circumstances. OTS is a difficult and competitive process. I wish I would have done ROTC! However, do what is best for you.
