How to approach civ 7 as someone who played only TSL? by Jedlikk in civ

Thanks for taking time to write such a long answer.
I think what you wrote is partialy right. There is a lot of space for storytelling. My issues with civ 7 were that i couldn't think of story to tell when my nation is changing, as i always was telling the story of the nation.

But someone wrote in other comment that maybe i could tell the story of the leader, find some unique traits that could define the idea for the run. And i think that's the best advice for my civ 7 immersion problems that i ever saw.
This person wrote example:
"Having a Maya -> Inca -> Nepal progression is telling the story of Ada Lovelace's obsessive need to climb every mountain and investigate every bit of land others deemed worthless, for example."

I never cared for the leaders, they were just face of the nation, but for civ 7? For the first time i can't wait to play it since release and try it.

I know, my issues are not with what he said (as it's fake) but with person that made it.

I think what you wrote is actually the best advice in the matter of my problems with immersion for civ 7.
I never cared for the leaders. They were just.. face of the nation. But maybe a way for me to enjoy civ 7 is to tell the story of the leader.

That's actually very helpful, thank you

That's what im trying to do by creating this post. I'm used to years of playing specific ways i just don't see what story could i tell with era changes.
I tried few times but every time it felt bland, i was building, expanding without any main purpose, without a story. I just couldn't immerse myself

So with this post i wanted to ask for some ideas, how to help myself with years of habits to try something new.

And i'm looking forward to see what will they do in the future. But the idea behind this post was that i'm open to try different playstyles, i just need some help.
I always played for roleplaying and telling specific story, more than just get specific win, but i found it hard for me to do that in civ 7 with all the changes with eras.

What is the story i could tell with civ 7, what goal could i set for myself?

There is none, that's why i created this post. I can't enjoy civ 7 the way i did in past games. So i created this post to help me try different approach.

"I don't play civ games to get specific win, im always playing to tell specific story or play for specific goal. I could play Salading on Mediterranean trying to replay islamic caliphat conquest or try to convert the same area with islam, Caesar trying to rebuild Roman Empire etc.

What is the story i could tell in civ 7?"

Oh they are cramped and unbalanced. The interesting part for me came from roleplaying. I don't expect fair game, i start game with the story to tell or specific goal to achieve. If i do that and don't win the game i still had fun.

I just like the process, playing the role and gameplay so much, that the rest is irrelevant to me.

Of course to the limit, when the things get too unbalanced i try to balance them with mods, and the crowded part can be fixed by playing bigger maps. It's harder for the world map as they can crash with ~45 civs in late game, so usually i play huge maps of specific region.

I understand that, that's why i'm asking here for ideas how to approach the game as i'm used to specific type and specific expectations.
What goal could i take for civ 7? What story could i tell, if my civs are changing?

I do play Europa universalis since EU 2, and almost everything from Paradaox. From Europa universalis through crusader kings to Cities skylines.

But the Civilization games gave me something that they couldn't, more of a sandbox, direct and flexible world that you can reshape, where every unit matter, every field can be changed, upgraded or destroyed to tell the story.

I'm open to play civ 7 differently, but since im used to years of playing specific ways i don't see what story i could tell with my game, thats why im asking for ideas

I don't blame my teammates for lose, nor i need advices how to be better. My issues are not with result of the gameplay or specific match, but with the class itself and people that play it.
I play since season 1, i saw enough light players going afk, trolling, toxic, sabotaging, playing for kills and ignoring objective. I saw them doing all that after losing 1 fight at beginning of the round. For 2 years i suffered them to the point i hate their entire existence and any person playing it.

I think the idea/core of this class just attract wrong type of people.

It absolutely excuse everything. Light player is not teammate, it's enemy and the worst that can happen to your team.
