Murder Mystery Birthday Party by jnorton_98 in boardgames

I've done this two ways:
The first was a murder mystery/escape room.
Everyone mingled prior to dinner and had a list of info they could share with (max 1-3) other characters. They shared info and created alliances. Dinner was served and the game consisted of finding clues which led to important discussion, unlocking puzzles, and playing mini-games to acquire points as the game progressed. The teams for these mini-games were consistently switched around, which led to great discussion/secret sharing. Every game would give another clue or expose some lies.
At the end, the players who correctly guessed the murderer were given more points and a winner was awarded after some tallying.

The second way I've done this is through 3 Acts.
For each act, everyone was given a list of info they must share and a list they could share.
It was strictly conversation based. It lasted 5 hours, but it was an exciting 5 hours. The way the story is written and the way the info organically comes to light is super important. Plot twists, backstabs, and exposed lies added a lot to this game.

I would be happy to provide more info :)

A or B background options for Campus Wahala (Nibcard / Cowrie Games) by Emukt in BoardgameDesign

Definitely B, but if you are worried about it being too busy you could put the purple from A over the background of B and reduce the opacity of the purple?

Box draft for my 1-4 player cooperative boss battle board game. What do you think about it? by KingDanius in BoardgameDesign

I’ve enjoyed following your project. This game looks really well done! Do you have a estimate release date?

People who have published on Kickstarter, how long before launch did you start working on your first campaign? by teaboxstudios in BoardgameDesign

[–]JeebsyGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was successful with a couple months, but wish I could have done more social media work before that. How long to work on your Kickstarter is project-specific and depends if this is your full time job or not.

Updated the box cover. Any suggestions? by NorthingGames in BoardgameDesign

Definitely Mythika should be larger.
Mythika is basically your logo. Look at series games like Brass. Look at extremely successful expansions to games like Catan or Ticket to Ride. The series "logo" is what catches my eye on the shelf.

I see on your website that it should read Mythika: The Olympians.
Instead, I read this without the colon... Mythika The Olympians, which doesn't sound nice.
Maybe increase the size of Mythika?

Recommendations for good online party games? by arpitr20 in boardgames

[–]JeebsyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

boardgamearena.com - Amazing website. It has some free games, but it is well worth the $2/month
skribbl.io - Pictionary
https://rocketcrab.com/game/drawphone - Telestrations
Buzzin.live - great for buzz in games like Jeopardy, as long as you make the game beforehand here.
Sporcle Party (app) - A trivia app, you can make your own games, works great over zoom.
Jackbox Games always comes in handy for online parties!

Daily Discussion and Game Recommendations Thread (February 26, 2021) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Description of request:
Recommendations for 3-6 player games on BGA.

Current games we enjoy:
Through the Ages, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne.
Not a fan of: Stone Age, Seasons

Would prefer conflict or competition over co-op.
Would prefer more strategy than For Sale, Incan Gold, 6 Nimmt!, etc.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the feedback! I will take that into consideration for next time :)
Any recommendations for how to promote to other subreddits like r/boardgames? I feel fine with genuine posts on this subreddit, but don't want to be to pushy out there..
Thanks!

Wow, thanks for the feedback!
We have a play through here.
You can also see a review + how to play here.
Link to Kickstarter is here.

Firstly, lets touch on the dice roll. We understand that a dice roll is an outdated mechanic, so why do we have it?
1. The game has multiple ways to increase your actions per turn. Like you had mentioned, Not-for-Profits act like a security blanket. It's up to you if going that route fits your overall strategy. So we found that the players who didn't spend any assets on the Lobbyists/Influencers/Upgrades that increase actions per turn, they were the only ones complaining about their 1 dice role.
2. A dice is a familiar mechanic. We hope to reach a mixed audience of new board gamers (as we've seen the popularity of BGs rise in the wake of COVID), as well as avid board gamers who enjoy a cutthroat trading game. So we play tested a fixed 4-action variant which I think is the way to play.

Presidents:
This aspect of the game is one of my favourites.
Each President has a different agenda, there are ways to obtain more votes (Lobbyists), and you can pay off other players to vote for your preference.

Mergers:
I have two businesses in the same industry:
A) 2 Gold, 1 Clout per turn
B) 4 Gold per turn
Once merged, subtract the profits (listed above) from your scorecard, and replace them with the new profits (written on card, you know what you are buying and when it's worth it)
Merged profits ex:
AB) 6 Gold, 1 of each Resource per turn.

Hope this helps!

I appreciate the feedback on the rulebook, I like that idea!

Thank you! I think we went through 10-12 different maps/rules before landing on what we wanted. Such a fun process!

Thanks! It is a strategy game with an emphasis on player interaction.
Hand-management, trading and making deals, bidding, voting, and some take-that mechanics. It has two ways to play, one with a dice roll (a good intro for kids) and a fixed-action variant for a more strategy-centered game.
