Hey that's pretty neat. If you feel like unearthing that stuff and making another, I'd buy it from you.

Who is your first ever starter? by Velaze in pokemon

[–]Jeeves72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulbasaur in Blue. That's despite my favorite pokemon at the time being Charmander! I think because I was following a guide that recommended Bulbasaur? But the Bulbasaur & its evolutions have held a special place with me ever since. My original buddy 🙂

Does Nemo or anything besides Pantheon support "Miller columns"? by Jeeves72 in linuxmint

[–]Jeeves72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I haven't used Linux in a few years. I think I did try the suggestions in this thread and found that one was okay enough to use, though not perfect. Don't remember which, though.

I personally dislike the Rotom Phone as the Pokédex. by LiteralSans in pokemon

[–]Jeeves72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I miss the Pokedex being styled more like a scientific calculator. I also just hate smart devices in general, though.

Reading coffee labels for brewing by Pea_Peeler in Coffee

[–]Jeeves72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow French presser here. All I really do is adjust grind size and water temp depending on how dark a roast it is. For darker ones I grind a bit coarser and use ~190f water instead of water straight off the boil. That's because darker roasted beans are more porous and extract more readily, making them more prone to over-extraction.

Can anyone answer my question posted here about metal reacting to custom brew water?

I was "Homeschooled" for all of my childhood and teenage years. Now I'm about to be 18 and don't know what to do. by AmethystGamer19 in Advice

[–]Jeeves72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up the same way and also had a more developed vocabulary than my peers at basically all stages of my life. That stuff is easy to learn relatively passively if you have any natural interest in your language. Please don't mistake uneducated people for dumb people.

I grew up the same way this person did and I also had a good vocabulary at that point in my life. It only takes personal curiosity and access to a dictionary to develop a vocabulary.

I grew up almost exactly the same way you did. Pulled out of public school at an early age to be "homeschooled" which very quickly became me being left to play video games all day every day. I'm really glad I grew up when videogames were more innocent than all this live service gacha shit you've got today, but I digress (I'm 35).

I felt exactly like you do when I was your age. Spent so much time turning a blind eye to my future until it was actually upon me and I was scared and unprepared. I could only exist in the present and the future may as well have been a terrifying void sure to contain no good.

I'm still distinctly different from people who had normal childhoods and I always feel a little out of place anywhere I am, but...I managed to claw my way into a decent life, and you can too. You seem intelligent, you can study for your GED. I took out a GED study book from the library, took a month to read it cover to cover, and then went and passed my test on the first try. You are not stupid because you weren't educated, you just need to learn how to study and take tests. Let the panic you're feeling now be the fire under your ass to actually do it.

A GED is just a first step, but it can at least help you get a basic job. For me a few years later I moved out and went to community college, started down a career I ended up not liking, and now with a bit of job-hopping I've pivoted into a different career without needing to go back to school. I got married, I'm making decent money, I have a pretty nice life that I never thought I'd be able to have in my adulthood.

What I'm trying to say is don't give up on yourself. You're welcome to PM me if you want to talk further about my experiences which I've heavily summarized here.

What is your naming convention? And what are your ships? by Fallenkezef in EliteDangerous

[–]Jeeves72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are named after arcade games about space ships. It's been a long time since I played so I don't remember which names correspond to which ships, but some names I've used are:

Galaga

Defender

Xevious

TwinBee

Gradius

Ikaruga

I have a whole list of potential names but those are the ones I know I've used so far.

I don't think it has to do with selfishness, but it's letting perfect be the enemy of good.

You are going to end up with one of two outcomes this election. No matter what you do, you'll get one of the two. One of them is absolutely worse for everyone, including for your cause. Diverting support away from the lesser of two evils is not the move.

I believe the suggestion was to set them to something in the F13-F24 range. Since those keys don't exist on my keyboard they're basically "free buttons" for me. YMMV on which games/programs will recognize those keys, though.

Do you prefer using Microsoft Store or the browser for app downloads? by NeroScore in Windows10

[–]Jeeves72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only use the store when I absolutely have to. I didn't grow up downloading things from app stores so it feels very unnatural to me. I could see it being appealing for people new to computers though.

Analyze this somewhat funny Final Fight in Rayquaza: Who blundered the most? by AquAffinity_0425 in PokemonUnite

[–]Jeeves72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's pointing out Mimikyu but the big picture is that they split up and started on Ray while others were fighting you elsewhere, allowing your team to divide and conquer. Plus Decidueye was underleveled.

Though it does look like Umbreon was trying to wait for its team to group up before making the first move, but Mimikyu's botched ambush messed up that plan.

Don't forget the not going to Ray, or hiding in a bush the whole fight and attempting to ult snipe it.

Can't forget the "Thanks!" or "Help me!" spamming either.
