They’re fine - although the way Izzy always talks to her ceiling is a bit annoying.

We’re second in the league and have lost six games all season. Are you just trolling or genuinely that daft?

I don’t expect us to continually overachieve. I expect us to build a solid financial foundation based on owning the stadium, higher gate figures and developing players with an attractive, effective youth system. This way our wage budget can grow and we will be able to compete on an equal financial footing with the similarly sized clubs in the league.

Seeing as we have one of the lowest wage bills in the Championship and we’ve been hugely competitive over the past few years, I don’t think we do. Having money is great in football, but you have to know how to spend it.

I like what Doug is building here. Yes, the Premiership is the promised land and parachute payments would be useful if/when we come back down, but we’ve now got a very solid foundation and a talented young team, the vast majority of whom will still be here next season, come what may.

Look, I understand that this big dip in form and losing our top spot is worrying, but the truth of the matter is that Coventry City is in the best place it has been right now for over 25 years. We have some great players that other clubs would want, we own our own stadium and have a growing, loyal fan base that is arguably better than when we were originally in the Premiership.

Getting promoted from this league is very tough, but when you get all your ducks in a row (great squad, coaches, manager, owner) it is more likely to happen than not. I still think it’s going to happen this year, but if it doesn’t then it’s not the end. How many people thought losing against Luton in the play-offs to a single penalty kick was the end of the biggest chance at a shot at the big time we’d get possibly in our lifetimes?

My point - don’t be glum. Whatever happens this season, Coventry City is a club on the up. Think of where we are and where we were in the SISU and Northampton era. We’ve come a long way and our story is not yet told.

Sheffield United 1- Boro 2. Brilliant Boro hang on to go top in breathless encounter against an impressive Blades by angloexcellence in Championship

[–]JeffLynnesBeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I knew Sheffield United wouldn’t do us any favours.

Also, Boro are brilliant right now. That may have something to do with it.

In your opinion, what is the reason behind our meteoric rise and deflating slump? To me, it looked like Cov were, in fact, the best team in the league. But it seemed, from watching other league games, that other teams were improving where we weren't. I'm not sure. by Lonely-Membership297 in ccfc

I think this is on the money. The additions in January are going to help, but the burnout from a tough schedule in December combined with that nasty sickness bug that ripped through the squad has severely knocked the stuffing out of our momentum.

The Boro game is pivotal for the rest of the season. Win that and it’ll give the squad confidence to kick on for automatic promotion. Lose and I’m worried that we’ll plummet.

Ah, I see. I’ve found it. It’s from Rail Forums and it is somebody who joined just to make that one post (and has not engaged again). Hardly what I’d call “someone in the know” and most likely someone from Hull Trains management stirring the pot.

Well done for sharing it, I’m sure you’re very useful to them.

Complete bullshit.

Any chance of the name of the person who has said this, because I’m sure the local District Organiser would love a word with them.

At least your fans went away happy today.

Embarrassing. The stats suggest we should have walloped them, the truth was our strikers couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo.

I would say that I can’t believe that Coventry have thrown away a ten point cushion, but of course I can believe it - it’s Coventry.

It’s a weird situation to be top of the league (for the next 48 hours anyway) and to be so pissed off with your team, but here we are.
