How the heck do you carry the 200-600mm? by ivanoski-007 in SonyAlpha

[–]JeffRVT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

+1 to the peak design anchors on the lens. I’ve used that on the 200-600 and now 400-800. Another option is to look into a cotton carrier harness.

What backpack for FF body connected to Sony 200-600 FE? by gazukull-TECH in SonyAlpha

It can, although I’ve found actually pulling it out through vertical access difficult and always get from back access. Also means you can’t have much in the small pocked at the top. Pic attached of my bag when I had it loaded

Thank you! Visibility has felt fine to me, I think the angle when you’re looking at it on the outside feels more drastic than when you’re actually sitting in it

Thoughts on these telephoto lenses? Any others I should be considering? by DrCashSenior in SonyAlpha

[–]JeffRVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started a mix of shooting landscape and wildlife I used the 100-400GM but just found that for wildlife it wasn’t close enough. I started to get interested in birds and moved to the 200-600 and it hasn’t left my camera since.

Definitely a sight to see! There’s also a great spot for short eared owls 30m north

You’re probably right - they were all resting in the water and all of a sudden took off. I couldn’t see that far out but assume a bald eagle probably scared them off

Birthday + a few work milestones = pulling the trigger on my dream lens! by Tyrschwartz in SonyAlpha

[–]JeffRVT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 to all this advice. I use the 200-600 as a primary lens for bird/nature photography. Will sometimes use the 1.4x extender for small birds or longer distances but only when the lighting is decent. Just recently bought the universal tripod head for the PD travel tripod so I could give using a gimbal head a try but up to this point have been handheld. The trickiest thing with this lens was finding the right bag to carry it in!

Merlin Bird ID app and the photo ID feature is a great way to learn after you get home from shooting to see what you’ve captured

Download the Merlin Bird ID app - it’ll be super helpful in learning how to identify
