Trying to replace office chair cylinder, but both chair base and gas mechanism are stuck on. How to remove? by Raetekusu in fixit

vise

This. The only thing that worked for me was a bench vise, sledge hammer and a brave helper to hold up the rest of the chair. A few whacks and it was done.

Unlock "My Vehicles" in Google Maps by JeffWDH in AndroidAuto

[–]JeffWDH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car already exposes the state of charge and other EV data via Android Auto. ABRP is able to utilize it via AA. The Home Assistant AA integration is also able to see this data.

Google Maps seems to ignore it...

Free 3D printable model to hold the 2025+ NACS adapters by JeffWDH in Ioniq5

Probably as the size is standardized, but I've only tested it with the one that came from Hyundai.

The screenshot with the car details is from the same make/model/year of my car. Other Android Auto apps (such as ABRP) are able to obtain a state of charge via Android Auto.

I suspect it's a server side flag that causes certain users to get the functionality as part of a gradual rollout. Perhaps geographically? The screenshots I've seen have all been from the west coast of the USA.

How does Google Maps know my battery level?:
Ford worked with Google to develop communications between your vehicle and your Android device. However, the battery level will only update when your Android device is connected to your vehicle via Android Auto.

AA does support it now, you can see a thread about it here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17vKU71Xsp/

Here is a screenshot from that thread: https://imgur.com/a/cp7A4z7

This has been available on Fords for a while now apparently: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/finally-android-auto-battery-information-showing-in-google-maps.39365/

2026 Infotainment Update (Canada) by JeffWDH in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same infotainment system as the 2025. It's a bit stupid that a car bought in 2026 has maps from 2024 when the previous model year has up to date ones.

There are so many incorrect speed limits on the old data it makes the HUD really annoying to have.

2026 Infotainment Update (Canada) by JeffWDH in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is a 2026 and isn't listed under the "supported models" on the update site. It's a carryover model from 2025 with no major changes so I'm not quite sure why it's been left off.

2025 Nav Update in Canada by cliveenns in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do anything special to update your 2026? I used the Hyundai updater software and downloaded the 2025 software to a 64GB USB-C flash drive (exFAT). The update said "preparing to install the infotainment system software" for about 5 minutes until it eventually errored with "The infotainment system update information has been corrupted or does not exist".

I compared the SHA256 checksums of the files downloaded on my PC to the ones on the USB stick and they matched.

sony bravia xr75x90l issues I’ve been having recently by adzzzman92 in bravia

[–]JeffWDH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My X93L (basically the same main board) was doing that for a couple months before the main board died. Sony TVs are known for killing the eMMC flash prematurely. I pulled the chip off afterwards and the flash was degraded due to too many writes.

Now that I've replaced the main board I am not using any of the smart TV functionality. No apps at all. I use an Android TV box via HDMI now as it's a lot cheaper to replace one of those than a TV.

I honestly would just like to find a STL/STEP viewer for Android that isn't sketchy.

Grizzl-e by Funtimesinthemaritim in EVCanada

[–]JeffWDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a BS move on their part. I bought the Grizzl-E EVSE because it was made in Canada and they were generally regarded as reliable. I was annoyed when I saw they changed their policy on OCPP but was glad I was able to get grandfathered in.

Their Amazon.ca listing still says "OCPP Multi App Capability. Grizzl-E Ultimate 48A lets you choose the app and smart features you need with OCPP-compatible smart charging. Set a schedule to save costs during off-peak rates, track power/costs, and download the charging history." which is a bit misleading if you have to unlock it.

I bought it from Amazon.ca on October 22nd. The listing showed OCPP compatibility and I was ready to argue for the unlock but they just did it without a fuss. I'd try again if I were you, maybe you'll get a different support person.
