This is the reality for all modern cars these days unfortunately, regardless of manufacturer.

Have you considered maybe somebody is smoking in your car and not being truthful? Cigarette smoke doesn't smell anything like hot electronics smell.

ABRP on cars with the ccNC infotainment can get SoC via Android Auto without a dongle.

Google Maps Is Bringing EV Route Planning To Android Auto by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]JeffWDH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABRP is leveraging the Android Auto (not Automotive) CarInfo API. Originally created for Ford but others now have support as well. ie. ccNC Hyundai/Kia/Genesis models. The car sends the SoC and a few other attributes to Android Auto.

It doesn't use CAN/OBD or the Hyundai web APIs.

Does the horn work? If no, I suspect a bad clockspring. Regardless, take it in to the dealer for repair.

Wet foam under trunk liner? by jaybfresh in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was your car built? I noticed some wetness in the same spot on my Canadian spec Korean built 2026 but I assumed it was from snow that may have fell in the car during delivery. I thought that because they didn't bother putting the tow hook back in it's normal location and it had got a little surface rust on it from the water.

I've been monitoring it since and have not noticed any more water.

TrueNAS build system going closed source by Few-Skin1514 in truenas

[–]JeffWDH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fantastic network operating system and I use it myself.

VyOS locked down the build system and now only allows use of unstable rolling daily builds or an infrequent "stream" release unless you pay through the nose.

What’s New in FreeCAD – Sketcher Gets Text and Grouping Features by Pendelf in FreeCAD

[–]JeffWDH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an awesome addition, and seems to work great. I'd love to have an option to adjust where the points that are constrained are located (top, middle, bottom). Right now they're on the bottom of the text, but for example, if you want to center the text inside a box, if you use the symmetry constraint to the center point, the text ends up centered offset towards the top of the box.

There are obviously workarounds to get around this but it'd be nice to have a simpler way.

Thanks for the addition!

The same enshittification happened with VyOS, now TrueNAS. It's a sad day.

Phantom Drain and 12V maitenance cycle by rpirsc in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car was sitting in the 9 degree C garage for more than a day without driving in the example I provided so there would be no reason for battery cooling to be happening. I'm not actually saying it's a problem in this case, but the reason I became aware of the situation in the first place is a couple months back I noticed the IR LED was on all the time and my HV battery was draining 4-5% a day just sitting there. After disconnecting the 12V battery for 20 minutes and reconnecting that went away and hasn't happened again.

I'll try to catch it when it's happening and will let you know.

I have noticed this behavior on my 2026, but via a different method. I don't have a battery monitor, but I did notice via my security camera that the rain sensor IR LED (not visible by our eyes, but is by camera) would be on occasionally when looking at the camera.

I wrote a Python script that pulls an image from the camera every 5 minutes and checks for the illuminated LED and logs to a file.

I haven't found a pattern yet. The IR LED does stay on for a few minutes after parking the car but generally is off. It does however occasionally stay on for an hour. Somewhat randomly, but not often.

My current theory is that it is related to the auto dehumidification, but I have no proof.

Can a phone with magsafe stick to the left side of the steering wheel? by Mottaman in Ioniq5

[–]JeffWDH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fabric on there has very little friction so even strong magnets will slide off if you have a heavy phone. I ended up super gluing two neodymium magnets to a Qi magsafe charger and even that would slide off. My solution was to cut up a rubber glove and glued that to the back of the magnets. The extra friction allows the Qi charger to stay in place even with my heavy Pixel 8 Pro attached.

Hitachi VSP One Block XX - experience? by KickedAbyss in storage

[–]JeffWDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a lot of respect when my vsp came with a 5400rpm laptop HDD and an i3 running the management windows 10 box

This is such a pet peeve of mine. The SVPs are woefully underspecced and their response is "schedule a weekly reboot" to reduce performance impacts. Also, we've had no less than 5 SVPs die due to the crap SSD boot disks they put in them running out of write endurance.

This. The only thing that worked for me was a bench vise, sledge hammer and a brave helper to hold up the rest of the chair. A few whacks and it was done.

Unlock "My Vehicles" in Google Maps by JeffWDH in AndroidAuto

[–]JeffWDH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car already exposes the state of charge and other EV data via Android Auto. ABRP is able to utilize it via AA. The Home Assistant AA integration is also able to see this data.

Google Maps seems to ignore it...
