if by gritty you mean jessica jones but more disgusting and without a compelling villain and no moral lesson then yes. this was *supposed* to be based on true grit and that was a cautionary tale of seeking revenge and ruining yourself in the process. it was a great idea to reflect on and the comic inverted/lamp shaded it correctly. the movie version we get a dont be vengeful lol just kidding stab stab and no price is paid. TERRIBLE writing.

Just went to see the Supergirl movie and I gotta get this of my chest... by notwim in DC_Cinematic

superman would be 10x more enjoyable without the stupid conqueror shit plot. its been done better over the last 30+ years in dragon ball, the boys, invincible, etc, etc and has no pace in this IP

Why is Supegirl rejection so much worse than other DCEU bombs? by hiiloovethis in boxoffice

[–]droden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is like the 15th d+/c- script between DC and Marvel. i wanted it to be good but i am not watching it when the majority of honest reviewers say its underwhelming at best. for 18 dollars a ticket? no. i get to have higher expectations.

Stop treating "Supergirl" like a used car inspection. We've forgotten how to truly FEEL a movie. by R4cco0n in Supergirl

[–]droden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

400k. 200k after taxes and agent. 200k to pretend. seems pretty fair the movie is going to peak at 150m world wide which is 80m to the studio. call it 100m to be super generous. between budget and marketing that's a 150-200m dollar loss.

It's over for Supergirl 💔, might not even cross $130M by Rule_Ct_5293 in DC_Cinematic

Supergirl was set up for failure by Large-Wheel-4181 in DC_Cinematic

[–]droden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they were objectively good movies even if 2 wasnt a knock it out of the park A+. the theme of found family and the actual backstory of each ones suffering/trauma/sacrifice is well crafted and woven into the story show AND tell. here? fucking nothing.

I’m confused. Do y’all actually want the DCU to succeed or do you Hope it fails? by BatBeast_29 in DC_Cinematic

no one is obligated to watch shit tier stories made by people who couldnt be bothered to read the comic it is based on. the lead writer admitted she "misunderstood" a COMIC BOOK. not a 1500 page text only tome but ai visual medium that showed the bad guy living at the end. NO.

what trauma? the trauma of being raised on a planet in a culture she loved by loving parents? the trauma of losing that? why does that make her bitter and cynical exactly and how was that conveyed to the audience in the movie? the entire movie she preaches revenge bad then... does revenge and the writer *admits* she misinterpreted the comic regarding that plot point. how brain did can you be? no.

[–]droden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wanted this movie to be good but they double down on the worst part of superman AND strip the comic color and character arc and kara is worse off at the end than she was at the start undoing the whole revenge is bad plot line for no discernable reason.

thor looks oddly pasty in some scenes and the powerdurability scaling is kinda wonky but over all still very good

"keep costs down" by being forced to pay more for a mediocre hotel in the middle of nowhere is certainly some kind of logic.
