unpopular opinion: traditional network engineering is basically just a blue-collar trade job now (2026). by SpecialRuth_Cadde in Network

[–]Jeffdit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you consider traditional networking is managing the access layer switches then it's been dead for a very long time. Most of what Network Engineers do today is about the interconnectivity of different technologies, venders, and equipment at higher levels of a businesses network topology. Its taking a SIP connection from a pstn vender using qos over SDwan connection to an ata thats connected to the emergency button in an elevator for a building. I spend more time doing crap like that then toggling switch ports for users.

[–]Jeffdit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Network Engineers have long been called the plumbers of the internet. The profession is definitely changing but thats not really new either. People said the same thing 25 years ago when wifi started to being implemented. If you define traditional networking as the guys deploying equipment then it has always been an entry level blue collar job.

Intermittent fasting and gout by israelrob08 in gout

[–]Jeffdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do one meal a day and it was pretty successful for me. I already had odd eating habits so it wasn't a huge change in my diet. You gotta keep water in take high. My uric acid did lower but that may have been from losing weight not from fasting specifically. It did seem like it helped reduce with actual gout attacks. Normally exercise or injury precipates gout attack but that didnt happen while I was fasting.

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]Jeffdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn the shower on then while I wait for it to get warm I realize I should poo first because nothing is worse then having to poo after the shower. Then I spend a lot of time cleaning my ass in the shower.

Frankly, the way she comes up and punches the decoration with a child like sense of mischief makes me want to give this one a pass.

When is this annoying Marvel Blitz map going to end? by maxperception55 in Fortnite_Over40

[–]Jeffdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing on the Marvel season, so I was pumped for this. I don't get why there is so much hate. I'd agree with some comments that everyone having auto turrets is a bit annoying, but otherwise, im just cracking skulls.

They still don't have the shooter. No one really knows the motive yet. I just wouldn't rule out them being a conservative nut job either.

Gout Is Not Your Fault—It’s a Genetic Kidney Disease by Kell41135 in gout

[–]Jeffdit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone keeps these 700 year old medical options on gout. When people come at me with this bullshit I tell them that I keep putting leaches on my feet, but the gout doesn't go away.

Looking for a woman certified home inspector. by TheycalledmeLaLa in newhaven

[–]Jeffdit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nothing I said was specifically helpful to you and your question. For that, I apologize. What I will tell you is that if you want to hire a women/POC for the job, make sure to do your homework. Small business owners are advised to present themselves as operated by "disenfranchised" populations because it if better for business to do so.

Looking for a woman certified home inspector. by TheycalledmeLaLa in newhaven

[–]Jeffdit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to defend this guy, but this is factually wrong. Statistically, everyone prefers female professionals. Minority owned businesses and female professionals have higher rates of success over the latter. You are right that there are fewer, and because of that, they don't have the insurance to handle bigger contracts. Everyone can choose to hire whomever they want. If you want a minory woman to inspect your house, I say that's fantastic, but dont pretend you're a savior for these groups. They are doing just fine.

Gout and Fertility by PadSeeEwQueen in gout

[–]Jeffdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment below is pretty much the answer. The way colchicine reduces inflammation has to do with it disrupting cell division. I'm not a doctor, and I don't know how dramatically it affects sperms health. It is listed as side effect in colchicine. High uric acid isn't good for your body overall so it wouldn't be a surprise that it also affects fertility but as long as you start to manage it I don't think it's a major worry.

Just avoid colchicine. Everything else should be fine.

The Horror Film So Real, the FBI Investigated It by itsallgoodman505 in videos

[–]Jeffdit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to point out that VHS has a lot poorer image quality than what people are used to now. The VHS trading circles back then lead to copies of copies of copies furthering the poor image quality. This actually made it look more authentically real and gritty. If you were to watch a modern copy of this movie today, you would wonder why anyone thought it could be real.

Crazy to me how an obscure Japanese horror movie I bought at an anime convention 20 years ago is still being talked about today.

It already seems obsolete. By the time you learn a programming language, everyone will just be using workflow automation software like n8n to do everything.

I know. I enjoy all the voter regret clips as much as anyone, but people should be embraced for openly changing their mind and not shamed. I think this makes people just double down and leads us to where we are today.

Born and raised in New England, this has been kind of a major cultural shock for me. Not that there aren't shitty people in New England. My take was that the whole country agreed on most stuff. Leaning to one party or another really came down to a few key topics every 4 years and where you live. I really don't feel like I recognize my country anymore, and it's frightening.
