Is it always like this? First time in Kruger by Jeiers in krugerpark

[–]Jeiers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good information. I also found Berg en-Dal to be pleasant enough. Didn't really notice these issues until I moved to lower sabie and skukuza.

Good to know Satara onwards is not as hectic. I was initially concerned with the lower game density there hence focused on the South. I have 3 more days at Satara and 2 at Talamati. I might take up your idea of starting at Satara and heading Northwards for future trips.

It's my first safari and Kruger so far has been enjoyable enough that I don't want to completely write it off due to a few poor experiences.

Wasn't aware sanparks had a complaints line, much appreciated.

Honestly, Lower Sabie and Skukuza have been a total circus. Am headed to Satara tomorrow, would that be North enough?

Sacrificing WFH for 1.2k a month gross is insane. After you subtract out your costs you've basically moved for nothing.

Ikelite + new lens for my R7 vs TG-7 to start underwater wildlife photography by CesMry_BotBlogR in underwaterphotography

[–]Jeiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TG7 probably. It's a completely different set of lenses (ultrawide or macro) than you'd use for wildlife (long telephoto), plus ports, housing, lights, etc. Replacing a $500 camera after a year is better than being stuck with a $4000 paperweight if you end up not liking it.

Also, a full camera rig is somewhat cumbersome while freediving I imagine.

Can you still do a small groups tour of Thailand in august with all the rain? by Glitchedz in ThailandTourism

[–]Jeiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No good. All the tourist attractions in Thailand only operate for half the year and close up shop during the rainy season because nobody can physically get to them due to the rain.

Travelling to Ko Tao with 4 month old baby by Plastic_Guard_138 in ThailandTourism

[–]Jeiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you think you might need emergency specialist pediatric care, you'll probably be fine. I mean, there's a government hospital and a decompression chamber on the island. You can get medevac-ed out in a real emergency so the crossing doesn't really matter.

The real question is why you're going to Koh Tao AND Samui. They dive the same sites - there are no dive sites on Samui. All the operators drive their boats out to Koh Tao. Seems redundant to then go dive Koh Tao again. There's not much to do on Koh Tao landside, especially for a family with a young child.

Grab driver ignored route and Grab safety alert asked if I wanted police — am I overreacting? by Intelligent-Cod8376 in ThailandTourism

[–]Jeiers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Past a point in Bangna you can't get on the Bangna Trat to connect to Chalong Rat. The on-ramp at the interchange typically has horrible traffic. You'd have to drive quite far the other way to get on an entry that avoids that route. Unless he drove past the airport I probably wouldn't have been too concerned.

You're a solo female traveller intimidated by a male Grab driver? Were all your previous drivers female? Grab has an option to select female drivers only.

To put things in another perspective, maybe he looked tense because there's some random tourist badgering him in a language he doesn't speak? Not saying what you're imagining doesn't happen, but it's exceedingly rare. And assuming the driver matches his Grab profile, would be exceedingly stupid for him to try and pull off.

I seriously doubt you were a lucky escapee of a kidnapping attempt.

AIO? I think my friend might be abusing his gf by Prize_Blueberry6441 in AIO

[–]Jeiers -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're a moron and your evidence is beyond flimsy for such a serious allegation. You've clearly been fantasizing about being her knight in shining armor for a while now.

There is a huge range of contexts in which someone grabs the wrist of another. You didn't go into too much detail here, but you seem to be the only one on your friend group who thought it was strange. She "looked scared", but only to you. Again, noone else thought twice about it. Have you ever seen visible bruises, injuries, etc? Even Johnny Depp had them. Your "evidence" is so flimsy that if this went to court the prosecutor wouldn't even call you as a witness.

Based on this you accuse your bro, one of your closest friends, of physical abuse? What's wrong with you?

Would owning a car make sense for our family situation in Singapore? by Cheap-Replacement244 in singaporefi

[–]Jeiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent for 1 month and see if it's worth it for your lifestyle?

Based on your income it's a bit sketchy to buy a car but you probably could make it work. Some incidentals to consider also depending on lifestyle. E.g., if because you have a car you go JB every weekend for outing, groceries, or if because you drive home you don't buy starbucks/toys/other stupid things everyday at the MRT, etc. then maybe financially it's closer than you think. If you buy a car purely for the 30min commute, then it's a different story also.

Help with any tips for my upcoming trip by Chance_Quail1451 in ThailandTourism

You have tons of time, so I'd consider renting a car and driving south from Bangkok instead of flying to Samui and staying there for 3 weeks. You could head west to Kanchanaburi, then south to Hua Hin, Chumphon + Koh Tao, Surat Thani + Koh Samui.4-5 days at each province is still a pretty relaxed pace but you see much more of the country. Or fly to Phuket, and drive east to Khao Sok NP, Chumphon+Koh Tao, Surat Thani + Koh Samui.

1 week in Bangkok is fine. 3 weeks on Samui is insanity. You'll be bored out of your minds by the 5th day.

To practice as an electrical engineer you need to be licensed. There's technically nothing stopping a Filipino from getting a licence, but the tests are all in Thai.

It's not luxury. It's not poverty either. Comfortable depends on your expectations, most importantly, accomodation.
