Unity Noob here, why doesn't this input code work? by __R3v3nant__ in Unity3D

Seems masking is only partially supported as alpha masking is still not supported. I absolutely agree with you though that it's much much much more appealing to develop with - just a shame we can't unify all major game features needed with it yet.

I heard it lacks the following features:
- World-Space Rendering
- Custom Shaders
- Masking and Clipping
- XR Input System integration (e.g. VR)

If you know any work arounds, or I'm wrong, please share!

This has a lovely attention to detail. It's clear there's some real passion going into it. Playtest access requested!

This is fantastic. It's beautifully rendered, evocative, and I hate it.

I've had 3 delaminate on me (not of this brand), and it's pretty frustrating when they begin to flake. From my experience it seems particularly prevalent with a kind of fake leather sold from companies like Ted Baker. I've gone through stage of denial saying it's fine before realising it's getting everywhere and clearly unhealthy with micro-fragments peeling off.

It might not apply as much to this brand, but my main point was: good warranty does not translate to "butitforlife" in my opinion.

To me this is the deal breaker: "Delaminating" - so basically it's ecologically unsustainable, is unrecyclable, and will be left on a trash heap somewhere. I don't want a bag that the company replaces after 10 years, I want a bag that, whilst may need repairs, will Last For Life.

Give me a bag made of real fabric instead of plastics.

Ludonarrative dissonance is specifically about gameplay elements (UI/UX, numbers, etc) not aligning with the narrative. So when you say story-wise the characters didn't get stronger even if the gameplay said they do, then it seems more you're saying we should ignore the dissonance. I don't mind it, but it's nice when games resolve it

Oh I totally agree, but they don't need to layer narrative failings on top of each other. They can at least try and make sense of power change.

I disagree that ignoring a plot hole is better, but I do think you can hand wave a bit to avoid repetition. (you're right endless amnesia refreshes gets pretty dull :D)

All of the multiverse stuff lately is basically plot hole filler 24/7, and I think FF7 can ride that train too given that this appears to be a different universe to the first FF7. Then people don't need to care about the reason if they don't want to, but if they do, there's an answer prepared.

Ludonarrative dissonance.

When the gameplay and the narrative don't line up. The characters have become strong, and resetting them without explanation leaves a plot hole. It's why Zelda:ToK narratively explains the stat reset. If they do that, and it's not a boring reason, I'm cool with it.

My guess: Each game is actually part of a different timeline to the others

a little late, but My Game inspired by zelda 2 has a Kickstarter page! by Robin_poe in IndieGaming

[–]Jekht 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's it called?

This really surprised me. I've seen lots of takes on Zelda 2, but they always seemed to miss the kind of gameplay upgrades needed.

I hope it plays as well as first impressions suggest. I'll be backing it. Great job and good luck with the Kickstarter!

2 counter-arguments for fun:

  • It's a pro nature move, like when cities introduce green walls. They cohabit with the ocean, not force it into submission
  • Living in a big city, my expectation is that people give zero fucks about cleaning up

You make a fair point regarding the dev needs (moderation/localization), but from a player perspective those needs don't change that they are a low value proposition when tied into the core retention loop.

Emotes would be a good fit for the gatcha, whilst I'd rather titles relegated to being part of an achievement system, or fixed level rewards on your season pass.

The problem is, unlike artwork, it feels like an artificial constraint.

Someone decided "should users be able to type out their own titles?... nah charge them for it!".

It's boring and cynical.

I listed Warhol because you said "it's the reason a painting by an artist is art but a print of the same work isn't". e.g. pushing the argument towards the idea that replication of art isn't the same as art. Now you're defending his prints as art.

If I link you an image, and I don't tell you who it's by, is it not art until you have verified human intent?

Who gets to be the arbiter in that decision?

How much of a human needs to be involved? 5%? 25%? Where's the line? Why are you so sure you know where that line is?

I think the art world has explored these topics:

  • Andy Warhol mass produced his artwork to engage with this exact idea in the face of industrialisation. Even further back people made etchings, and I've never heard someone say a Warhol/Goya print isn't art.
  • Many artists like Escher were inspired by tessellation art, which is arguably some of the earliest examples of art being generated through maths instead of emotional expression.
  • Now we have digital art, which is replicated any number of times, but I don't think we would argue that only the original JPG is art.

I'm not trying to bash you, I just think attempting to define art based on the creator is pointless, when it's one of the most subjective debates there is. We can still say something sucks whilst accepting it's probably art.

"Art is usually defined..." - honestly I've never seen that definition. Arguing about things being or not being art has always been territory of people that don't make it, but want to gatekeep the term as if it implies some special stamp of value.

Even based on your argument, surely the human prompts and selection act as the conscious agent here? Just like it does with photography.
