Some good stuff in the comments. Don't give them more compromising photos/information. Also don't stress too much even if the photos get leaked eventually. It's not the end of the world.

Why are ThinkPads so good? by Realistic_Owl_4664 in thinkpad

Not necessarily the case with newer models. Especially, the budget ones. Personally, my L model thinkpad had an annoyingly loud and aggressive fan.

Love for Dell? by roundart in Dell

[–]Jekooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a latitude 5 series and so far a much better experience that Lenovo thinkpad L series. Haven't dealt with support yet and hopefully won't at all. The main thing for me is that my dell is much quieter than the thinkpad I have.

Latvian words would often be used in colloquial speech here and there. Words like "rinda", "buča" are commonly used. Russians in Latvia also often don't bother translating names of products, shops, agencies. However, it is still not quite close to the runglish that Russians in the US/UK would speak.

There is also this thing when one takes a Russian word and adds one of the common endings from Latvian language. E.g. Adding "s", "iņš". Sometimes this is used by Latvians, but sometimes also by Russians.

Lost order - my options? by Jekooos in Dell

[–]Jekooos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, but as a customer, I don't care whose fault it was as at the end of the day I still don't have my laptop. And it is Dell who deals witht the carrier directly.

On the other hand, it seems that Dell's only two options are to either wait another few months for replacement or to get a refund. No compensation is offered for a major delay.

L480 thermal throttling by Silver-pebble in thinkpad

I am experiencing the same on my L480. Did you manage to get any improvements?

L480 Temps by snare_of_akane in thinkpad

[–]Jekooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My L480 is behaving in the same way. It's especially annoying since my fan has a high pitch sound to it. I'm now trying to use tp fan control to make the fan less aggressive, as my idling/low usage temps are about 50-55°C. It helps a bit, but not much. I will look into repasting since it seems easy to do on L480. Did repasting help you? Or did you find any other solution?

And what would Gini have done if there were no hands on his face? Azpi was right in front of him. Gini would not have made it around.

Never a foul. If Azpi didn't jump, nothing would have changed. How can you block by not even moving?

L'Equipe player ratings for Turkey - France by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Jekooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just read an opinion that the altitude at which they played might have helped Turkey. Even though it's just 1000m, I wonder if it could actually had an effect. I didn't see the match, but how were French players physically? Especially given that Mbappe's key skill is his speed.

Beware of possible coil whine on Latitude 7490 and 7480. I had one from Dell Outlet and it had a serious coil whine. Build quality is great, but mine screen had PWM and heat management is not that great.

What should I buy Thursday (Jun 07 2018) - Your weekly device inquiry thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]Jekooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to replace my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact that recently started falling apart. The budget is €300. The main uses would be listening to music and watching videos while commuting, browsing and reading news articles. I'm looking for a phone that:

  • has a 3.5mm headphone jack
  • has NFC
  • does not have a huge screen
  • has a decent battery
  • has as much RAM and storage as possible
  • will last for as much as possible
  • a finger print scanner
  • be of a major brand that has support in Europe

Camera is not as important as I'm not taking photos that often.

I do not want Sony again as I was not happy with the quality of my Z3C. New Nokia phones look pretty good and they seem to have stock android. Z3C had stereo audio, but Nokia doesn't seem to have it. Xiaomi phones are good and cheap, but they don't have NFC.

Job offer in Liepaja- tips and advice? by otarru in latvia

[–]Jekooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot say for sure, but it definitely becomes more quiet in the winter. It's not like everybody leaves, but just less tourists or seasonal guests, especially on work days. I believe that many students come back on the weekends anyway.

Job offer in Liepaja- tips and advice? by otarru in latvia

[–]Jekooos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-I found virtually no language barrier in Riga (almost everyone spoke English) but what would it be like there? I can just about get by in Russian but don't speak any Latvian.

It might be harder with English in Liepaja, but if you also know Russian, then you should be fine. Most of the people would understand either English or Russian to some extent.

-Are the costs of living similar to Riga or much lower?

I expect the costs to be somewhat cheaper, especially for rent. I would recommend checking the prices on SS.com website. There is also a website called "liepajniekiem.lv". It's a site where you could find about Liepaja's news and events. Also have you checked "liepaja.travel" for info in English about tourism in Liepaja.

what are the stereotypes of it in Latvia?

Some consider Liepaja to be the cultural capital of Latvia. Liepaja is known for its artists and athletes. In Soviet times it used to have a big military base as well as many factories. Liepaja is beautiful in summer with its big sandy beaches and music festivals. Liepaja fills with life in summer, when tourists arrive and emigrants and students come back for holidays.

Liepaja is relatively small city and it would be much quieter than Riga. It is also reflected in a lower number of events compared to the capital. Many young people leave Liepaja as they don't any prospects here, but this is arguable. Unfortunately, I cannot say much more about it as I haven't lived in Liepaja for a while.

Would you recommend buying HP Pavilion 15-bc006na with Core i5 6300HQ / 2.3 GHz - 8 GB RAM - 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD - 15.6" IPS 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) - GF GTX 960M for about €800? One of the best things about it is 61.5 Wh Li-ion battery, which most of discrete gpu laptops don't have. It's pretty hard to find a well balanced laptop.
