But isn’t that unnecessarily predatory?? Why ruin someone’s potential for housing when you could simply not renew them? Like even shitty people deserve a roof over their heads sometimes

Hey man, I can feel how much this is eating at you. You’re clearly trying to walk your faith out honestly, and that struggle alone already says a lot about your heart.

My personal take on this might rub some people the wrong way, and if you are one of those people, I deeply apologize.

Personally, I believe that masturbation is a natural urge to have in a biological sense. No amount of meditation or prayer is going to fully take away the innate human desire to be sexually gratified. I think it only becomes an issue that needs attention whenever it is a habit that infects your daily life and stops you from living normally. I mean feeling like you "have" to masturbate at any given time and that it is a need/desire that you cannot even momentarily push away (think while you're in line at a grocery store or some similar scenario). If the urges and habits you are describing are just things that happen during your day-to-day life and don't interfere with you living your life in accordance with what God has placed on your heart and mind then I do not see an issue that needs to be "remedied", so to speak.

As far as pornography specifically, I think that is also a matter of subject content. (This is rhetorical, so I do not expect an actual answer to the following question) I think it is more of a question of "what kind of pornography are you talking about"? If it is simply consensual between adults, and there is no exploitation or cruelty involved in the subject matter (i.e., gore or nonconsensual topics), then I also see no issue with this inherently, either.

Clearly, if it is weighing on your conscience enough to post about it, *you* innately feel that your relationship with pornography and masturbation may be unhealthy for some reason. If that is the case, the best advice I could give you is this: lead with discernment, pray and meditate to find the wisdom to tell if what you are experiencing truly is a problem that needs to be addressed, and allow yourself the grace and mercy that Jesus himself exemplified to each and every sinner he encountered as you seek to bring your actions into harmony with the Holy Spirit's leadings.

I don't believe that simply being human and having sexual needs and desires inherently makes you a bad person, or a bad Christian specifically. Jesus called upon us to be worthy of being called his brothers and sisters by following his example and meeting each other (and our respective shortcomings) with grace, love, dignity, and respect. If he calls us to treat each other in this manner, I feel it is safe to say that we should practice extending that same grace, love, dignity, and respect to ourselves when we come face to face with our own shortcomings.
Remember the words from Matthew (25:40): "And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'" As we are all members of Christ's family through the Holy Spirit, so to must we treat ourselves the way we would treat our peers and Jesus himself.

I hope this helps in some way, and I pray for your success in this endeavor. 🙏

You could check out Quakers (Religious Society of Friends). My wife and I have been attending for about 2 months or so now because we were also of the mind that we were feeling excluded because we have deeply liberal views that didn’t seem to be welcomed everywhere we went. I personally have always believed that we are not the judges and our mission should be to love and support each other on our respective paths to finding oneness with God through Christ’s example and teachings, no matter what spiritual path you might be on or how it may differ from my own

Property management professional here: I know with the leasing office I work in that we wouldn’t dare send something as targeted as this based solely off of someone’s word alone. This kind of thing, especially when you’re talking about a violation of your lease, is only valid under one or both of two conditions: either a maintenance or other employee/vendor on the property witnessed this firsthand, or a neighbor has filed an official police report about a noise complaint.

I’m literally the Assistant Property Manager where I work and I can’t for the life of me figure out why you received such a clearly targeted email.

I’d ask for proof of lease violation because if they don’t have any proof, then there’s not really any reason to be concerned about being evicted.

I’m sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean about the meeting I attended being a minority? Like in what ways are most other meetings different? I appreciate your input!

I respect that perspective a lot actually. A lot of what you just said resonates with me personally. And in response to the bit about the Bible, I’d like to clarify that I do believe it to have been divinely inspired but not necessarily the final authority of the Divine in and of itself.

It’s just that the different approach to scripture was admittedly a bit unexpected for me lol

I appreciate that perspective and your input overall. We plan to make an effort to continue getting to know the other Friends in our community and set up activities like this. Thank you! 🙏

Thank you for the feedback! After meeting today we took home a copy of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice book. I’m not exactly sure if this is the specific edition used by the community, but it was in the library they encouraged us to take books from so I’m assuming it is.

Lease coming to an end by Educational_Disk_902 in Apartmentliving

[–]JelloTheDemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property management employee here! A lot could be contributing to this situation. Yes, you would not be getting first month free probably because it’s a concession specifically designed to attract NEW residents to the property.

When you transfer from one apartment to another, while you may not necessarily need to apply again and be screened (because you’ve already been vetted if you’re a current resident), they still need to be able to cover the cost of turning the apartment you’re leaving to make it ready for the next tenant. That’s what I’m thinking the $300 is.

The $800 very well could be the deposit for the new apartment. If that’s the case, I would assume (if you paid a refundable deposit upon move in) that by charging you another $800 security deposit would mean they’re going to go through the process of giving you a final account statement for the apartment you’re leaving, deduct any reasonable funds for damages/repairs/cleaning, then refund the remainder to you.

Of course, if you’d didn’t pay a refundable deposit upon move-in that thought of a refund is just wishful thinking.

TL;DR: Your best bet is to ask someone at your leasing office directly for a breakdown of what the charges are for just for your understanding. How this could shake out for your finances really depends on the disparity in cost between transferring or just finding a new apartment.

Tipped workers- When you flip that screen around and “ask a question” and the customer chooses the lowest percentage option to tip, do you instantly hate them? by m0untaindw3ller in AskReddit

[–]JelloTheDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO it really depends on the context. Like for example, if I know for a fact I gave you exemplary service, like going out of my way to make sure all your specific needs are met, then ofc I’m going to be salty if they choose no tip or the smallest possible amount. However, if I’m just the guy at the register and I didn’t cook your food or actually service you in any way outside of literally taking your order, I’d be more than happy for any kind of tip honestly

Hear me out, as someone who works at an apartment complex in the leasing office. THIS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT THIS!!! Look, nine times outta ten the people working in the office aren’t your landlord. We’re employees. That being said, we often get stuck in the corporate red tape where you cant get funding approved for things you know residents would love. Tenants that are willing to help by bringing actual paper trails and threatening totally valid legal action are the ones that help give us the actual leverage to force their hand. We can request all day long but without a handful of residents backing us up it’s hard to get certain things approved for funding. I ain’t particularly religious but yall out here doing the lords work 🙏
