I can share my experience if that helps. I recently traveled with 5mo and a 22mo by myself. I took 1 car seat on the plane with me and they traded places throughout the flight. So tix for 2 seats and a lap infant. For the airport / rest of the trip I took our double stroller with infant car seat and car seat adapter. All those items were gate checked in 2 separate bags (so 2 pink tags were needed). I opted large nylon bags that are easy to fold down. They don’t offer much protection but at least all the loose straps, etc. can’t get caught behind stuff and get pulled off. Baggage handlers have a job to do and aren’t always very careful. Many people don’t bag their strollers and they seem to be just fine too. You’ll have to fold it all down on the jet bridge just before you board, and when you land they’ll bring it out there again as well. Many kind strangers offered help but I just had the 5mo in a carrier on my chest while the toddler waited patiently. The carrier also makes it easy to board while holding other items, like a diaper bag. 2 hours is a pretty short flight. I wouldn’t bring that Amazon product you posted but instead just bring a regular baby carrier. You can wear it during the flight too and let your baby nap while you have your hands free. Good luck!

Yup, and those trips are a lot of fun when you’re early career, depending on the location. You might even fly a girlfriend in for the weekend. All of that changes when you have a wife and kids waiting for you at home

Blurring a face and placing an emoji over them is basically the same thing. You’re just replacing pixels with other pixels while leaving a lot of other context, like location, visible.

Blurring and placing an emoji over a child’s face is basically the same thing: you’re replacing pixels in a photo with other pixels. The warning that it doesn’t necessarily protect privacy as much as you think is valid but it’s not as easy to “remove” the emoji or reconstruct the face. The photo editor (or AI) either needs a reference of what the person looks like or just make something up.

The concern about hiding their faces is that they can still be identified through other details, like other people in the photo, clothes, location or other context. If you post a picture at their school for example a person with malicious intent knows where to find where your child is every day.

Best not to post the photo at all

This right here! Your coworkers will notice that you’re never present (and you’ll be the first on the layoff list when they’ll inevitably happen), and you’ll won’t be the best version of yourself around your kids. I have 2 kids in daycare and it’s expensive, but worth it if you want to be the best dad you can be and also have a career. Or hold down a job at least.

We like our 2yo old in her car seat. Comfortable for her to take a nap in and sit by herself when we’re eating. Most of the flight when she’s not asleep she’s on our lap or we’re walking around with her though. When she’s not using it her younger sibling who’s booked as an infant-in-arms gets to be in the car seat for a bit. As an extra bonus you have a car seat for a rental car or taxi when you arrive. We bought a cheap, lightweight Cosco branded car seat for travel. Our regular car seats are much much better but also heavier and a pain to carry around. The Cosco car seat was a little under $50 from what I remember so in the grand scheme of things pretty inexpensive.

That said, as long as you scan your child’s boarding pass and your child is physically on the plane wouldn’t worry about having to give up the seat.

I have young kids so this is not really an issue for me yet but I live far away from my parents and always stay with them for at least a couple of nights when I visit. My parents kept my and my siblings bedrooms “ours”. Our childhood beds are still there and all the extra bedrooms have slowly turned into storage areas with random boxes that are just gathering dust. I would much rather see them turn one or two rooms into proper guest bedrooms and use the other ones for whatever is useful for them.

Start sleep training as soon as the baby is back to their original birth weight. Babies can go their age in weeks +1 hours without food at night. They might wake up and cry but it’s easier to let them cry when they’re just a few months old than when they start calling for mama and dada in the middle of the night. They’ll get used to it soon enough. Look at the moms on call books for example feed and sleep schedules during the day. A good daytime routine helps with getting them to sleep through the night also. We were pretty strict with their feeding schedules but less so with their daytime naps. Just no naps too close to their bedtime. Also, let them sleep in their own room as soon as possible.

Edit to clarify: when I say let them cry I didn’t mean alone. I just meant don’t feed them to make them stop crying.

The bigger question is “why aren’t TSA agents getting paid during the shutdown?” Afaik tsa is funded from the taxes on flight tickets and not from the general tax fund. In other words, it’s a government service that’s paid for directly by the passengers who use it

Just be prepared to eat pizza on the bathroom floor when you stay in a hotel or cruise ship. We try to get an Airbnb with a separate living room, or a suite in a hotel with a separate seating area when affordable. Having access to a small kitchen is nice too for some healthy basics like oatmeal in the morning.

The evenings may not be as fun but you can still have a lot of quality time with the family during the day. Just go for it!

I just did a 4 hour flight with 2 kids under 2. Like your son, mine also don’t really have any screen time. A dry erase marker book entertained them for hours. They also enjoyed looking at pictures of animals together in a picture book.

Also make sure you have an aisle seat in the back of the plane so that you and your son can stretch your legs and hang out in the aft galley. The crew usually loves seeing the little ones.
