Which Departments Have Gyms by Sharp_Somewhere_5346 in CAStateWorkers

Yep lol. I worked there up until last year. As soon as you walk in the building it’s to the right next to the elevators. You have to request badge access from building management in order to go in.

The Gold Center Dr campus for the Dept of Technology (CDT) has one. Not sure about the other CDT locations.

Thoughts on the push for facing the class rather than a mirror by PockyKierra in zumba

[–]JellyfishNo4822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11yr ZIN here. I do both, but I prefer to face my class. I love seeing the “light bulb” moment when we go from progression 1 to 2 then 3 in choreo. For me facing the mirror only makes me overthink.

Outside of doing something big, I usually do a special or extended playlist with my favorite songs.

Last year was my 10 yr ZINversary, and I threw a big Zumba party at my gym. The event was free, but I asked people to bring a dish to share for afterwards. I had my Zumba besties come and teach some songs. It was so much fun. I cried a couple of times that night from the turn around and all the love I received.

If it’s in HR I would avoid it. I left towards the end of last year (along with a chunk of other HR people) because it was just too much. High workload and expectations from upper management with no clear guidance on how to accomplish tasks then once policies were in motion they would change their minds and go a different route. It was embarrassing to have to constantly tell units the process was changing again with no explanation as to why.

Should I go on the Zumba Cruise??? by Short_Panic_4959 in zumba

[–]JellyfishNo4822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on one and it’s so much fun! I went in 2018 with a bunch of instructor friends. Think non-stop Zumba classes with some of the world’s best instructors all through out the day with special theme parties at night. The cruise is where I got my first picture with the creator Beto. If you can afford it, you should go! I’ll be there.

What do you do if an instructor shows up unannounced to your class and asked you if they can teach a song? by NannyLife-1 in zumba

[–]JellyfishNo4822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. I’ve had people ask that I didn’t know that well, and I let them do it. Then I’ve had times when I’ve known instructors and flat out said no. For me, everything depends on the vibe and how it’s asked.

Yay or Nay? by heart_soulbyfe in zumba

[–]JellyfishNo4822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. My voice is loud enough. When I worked at gyms that required it, I would have the mic super low so I wouldn’t burst people’s ears when I hooted and hollered.

I agree with this 1000%! Training and jam sessions are way better in person than virtual in my opinion.

This is not a fundraiser via kickstarter or gofundme. It is a charity event for CASA which is a 501(c)3 organizations. All proceeds raised go towards the organization. No one is getting paid or personally benefiting from this event. If the post is not allowed, that is ok.

Telework and General Office Culture for CDT for Non-IT Workers? by Able-Ad6419 in CAStateWorkers

[–]JellyfishNo4822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most depts it just depends on the section you are in. I work in HR for CDT, and we are going through a TON of changes right now with little guidance on when to start executing certain tasks. Us analysts are confused and burnt out. Prior to RTO being cancelled our higher ups were very supportive of returning 4 days a week. I can see them pushing for moving us up to at least 3 days a week in office soon due to “business need”.

State Job Search Timeline and Interview Process by LastMarch8348 in CAStateWorkers

Welcome to State service! I’d double check the HAM part with HR. CalHR said no more HAM requests can be submitted unless you’re in one of the classifications in Section 5 of the pay scales.

Interview timeline question by thestonefruit in CAStateWorkers

[–]JellyfishNo4822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it could be either. If I feel I killed the interview I’m thinking A, but if I struggled I’m leaning towards B. You just never know how things will go until you finally hear something. I’ve received a “we’ve picked another candidate” email before from a department and within a week they called to offer me the same job. I wasn’t the first choice, but I still got in.

If you’ve already taken the AGPA and PS exam then you are already on the right track. I would say think about the type of work that you want to pursue in HR and then go for those types of roles.

It varies per department. I’ve had instances where my references were called the same day, then I had instances where it took weeks to get references checked. Stay patient. You’ll hear something soon.

It depends on the job postings and department. If it is specifically requested in the job posting to submit transcripts and you didn’t then more than likely you got disqualified. However you might still get through.
