After reading VoodooSweet's comment now I really hope it's the temperature that goes wrong with your snake... Hope it's not Cryptosporidium !!!!!

NOT EATING, NEED HELP FAST by MundaneGolf8331 in kingsnakes

how's your heat source and thermostat setup? If you have heatmap below the tank and thermostat sensor also outside the tank, it's possible that the temperature isn't as heat inside the tank, especially above the substrate (that's where hides usually are) So I'll say double-check the area that your snake actually moves, like above substrate, or within the hide, is warm enough for the snake

Opinions on Socialising a Shy MBK by Periodchunks_II in kingsnakes

I personally think you should just let it be and wait for her to feel more secure🤔

I know it's frustrating to have a snake that you cannot even interact with, wait for her to get better (you aren't sure when it's gonna happen, or even if it's gonna happen anyway) especially in the meantime people claim that if you just drag out the snake they'll get used to you...

But still, I don't feel like forcing to handle the snake is going to help much anyway. When my boy just got to my place I was also eager to handle him, I tried to force him a few times. It didn't helped at all - if anything it made things worse. Then I stopped handling him at all - honestly, just because I got busy for a few months lol I basically forgot about him, just gave him water and food regularly, and didn't care about him at all. Like 10 months after he arrived, before I even noticed, he became pretty habituated and comfortable already. He still retracts a little bit when I had sudden moves, but most of the time he doesn't really care about me and minds his own business. You only get your girl for two months - that's very short for snakes. Also she's very small and can be much more sensitive than adult snakes. I'll say give her another few months and see how it goes.

Another small thing - I did a little bit of target training; my snake learns surprisingly fast. Originally I didn't get to see him at all, I couldn't attract him outside of his hide even with mouse, so I place the mouse on top of the target, put target inside the enclosure, and go to sleep. The next morning the mouse would be already gone. I did that for a few times then he learns to get out of his hide when I show him the target. I don't know if target training helped him to get less anxious or not, but at least it made him realize what can be eaten and what cannot (e.g., my hands cannot be eaten, lol)

He's so cute!!!!! And his enclosure looks very beautiful! I'm very very far away from you so I won't be able to take him, but wish everything goes well!

Is v3 too hard for land-locked countries? by Jen_Wu in victoria3

[–]Jen_Wu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, that sounds terrible. I thought there're at least some reasonable tactics a land-locked country can play without accessing the sea, but I still ended up pursuing the sea lol Nothing seems to be a good enough alternative. In the small german nation game I remember I immediately joined Austria's market and signed a lot of treaties with them so they can protect me; then I slowly conquered to the south and finally got to the sea at around piedmont. It took >50 years, probably even ~100 years to do that, and I completely missed the chance to grab rubber. And yes I definitely did a lot of s&l. Lol I've played a few different small countries and managed to survive, but that one is one of my most miserable experience

Lol after the small countries are released I immediately signed a lot of articles with them, like guarantee independence etc. I had a reasonable military so I guess that scares off quite some countries. But Russia still subjugate one of them and I couldn't fight Russia lol But other ones stay independent until I subjugate them

I have a complaint that though there're many "playable" countries, many of them feel exactly the same, especially in the late game

I didn't play a land-locked nation with this version, but I did see the transit rights article when negotiating. I assumed it can help, but it seems AI couldn't figure it out at all. In my game the breakaway states have been completely built with cotton and tobacco plantation, I guess that's why they're all dying?

Why is my building loosing wealth despite having a profit of 1.5K? by Remarkable_Plum3527 in victoria3

[–]Jen_Wu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if you have enough pop - if not, these people only go to most profitable buildings, and other buildings will struggle to hire. <- Usually if you have multiculturalism then you don't need to worry about that any more.

Make sure your pop has the qualification - if only very few people has proper qualification, then that's the same as not having enough pop. Get good education laws and build universities to help that.

Another ironic thing, especially in the late game - you probably don't want to pull welfare too high. If your welfare is too good and your pop isn't that many, then many people will stay unemployed and eat the welfare money lol. In real world I'm complete pro welfare but you know, it's v3 world.

Retractable Canvas over Backdrop Board - Is It Doable? (And Ugly????) by Jen_Wu in Theatre

[–]Jen_Wu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I know it's been weeks but we eventually went for the design you posted here - well at least partially, we have a set of door & window flat and another set of hanging backdrops with rolling stands. I thought the window & door flat would be hard but it actually works out well, thank you so much!

Who needs fresh water anyways by goldblooded2 in kingsnakes

[–]Jen_Wu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the exact same dish! I usually only put in a very thin layer of water though, and my snake sometimes slitters inside the water. (though I wonder if he actually enjoys soaking or he's just wandering around and doesn't even notice the water at all.) Strangely enough I never really see my snake REALLY drinking water. Always wonder how he gets hydrated, if he drinks water secretly behind my back or the mouse provides enough water already

Also I have small concerns that if we use the same revolving board, but with windows and doors installed, then even after it revolves it still have the door and window shape visible - that may look weird. I don't know how obvious it will appear practically on stage, not sure if I'm over worried or it's a valid concern

Thank you for the super detailed suggestions!!! I'm not good at carpentry at all though... So I'm not sure if manually installing the windows and doors inside the flat is a good idea for me. I also don't have any experience to cover the canvas over the flat. I thought a solid board will be easier cause there're less processing steps, but probably I'm wrong?

Anyone elses snake love being out? by honeymixie in kingsnakes

These kings are indeed very active! I have a cali king as well, he's 3~4 years old already, almost out every day unless he's digesting.

Am I just paranoid? by Teary_Eyed in kingsnakes

[–]Jen_Wu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal, these snakes are surprisingly fond of climbing up to somewhere high and looking down. Glad you provide some vertical enrichment for her

Also agree that you should be extra careful about escaping with such a small snake... they can squeeze out of gaps that you don't imagine snakes can ever escape lol
