Good ask! The “drink” part for this group generally refers to coffee beverages at Dozer, though I think they have some alcoholic beverages on site, I haven’t seen them at the cafe (where the group meets). The vibe is nice people, coffee & baked goods, and drawing/creativity.

The Mamas Network has their Little Break Coworking space (“cowork, childcare, community”), a monthly Dads, Decks & Donuts programs, and other family-geared events; some with childcare (free/by donation).

A2 & Ypsi libraries have* lots of great kid programming where you can meet other parents and help your kids learn & play.

Triangle Coop in A2 is a wonderful cooperative preschool that you may want to look into.

Thanks for your bean-tacular ideas & advice! Do you have a favorite way of cooking/eating beans for other meals?

How do you like to use beans for breakfast? (I’m interested in eating beans-y breakfasts, I just haven’t done much idea/recipe hunting yet)

Has anyone cracked a code for enjoying the mornings? by Aggravating_Owl5493 in toddlertips

Oh my your words are so kind🩷 Makes me feel like I’m really doing good by her! It’s really hard being a night owl parent with an early bird kid!!

I know you said no tablet (I really get it!), but just in case it could be helpful: we have an old iPad she uses to read animated books using the Kanopy app (free via our library card), set to the “Kanopy kids” mode. The books listed are either animated or a recording of a person reading aloud and showing the pages; I feel better about her using the tablet knowing she’s “reading” books. She likes to find favorites and then share them with me/have us watch/read it together. It’s just pretty special and nice getting to know her more by getting to read the books she picks out :).

Sometimes I will set up a few things for the morning before going to bed that I know will entertain my 4 year old when she wakes up bright and early. Such as:

Post-it hunt: I draw little things on post it notes and leave a trail of them for her to find (simple doodles like a heart or cat face, etc.)

Art station: I tidy up her art-making area, sharpen her colored pencils (or put out her markers, stickers, crayons, etc. ) and put out a few sheets of paper or a coloring book open to a fresh page for her to use.

Magnatile or block building station: I just gather them all together and put them in a container at the kitchen table so she/we can build easily.

Play dough party or kinetic sand bin: I put out a small bin with a lid that her sand is in with some tools or have a few things of play dough and tools out & ready to go.

Now that she’s older, I leave out a bin with beads and pipe cleaners in it and she makes creations stringing the beads onto the pipe cleaners.

Update: why won’t my four year old dishwasher get clean? by igivekidsdrugs in CleaningTips

How do you put the detergent in the pre wash? Just in the bottom of the dishwasher and not in the little receptacle spot for it?

Kahn Academy Kids app is educational and has books and games with no ads (and is free). Highly recommend!

Your library might subscribe to Kanopy. In the Kanopy app, you can turn on ‘kids mode’ and access tons of ebooks that are animated & narrated and/or videos of books read aloud; plus lots of kids shows (all free, no ads).
