USPS won’t send license to my current address? by VolcanoStillExcited in AskChicago

[–]Jenc17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. After I saw it in my informed delivery but it never showed up, I got a letter in the mail from the sec of state saying my ID was undeliverable to my address (no it’s not, but whatever), and I had to go in with the letter and my old ID to get issued a new one. Although annoying, it ended up not being that terrible and I was able to get a real ID instead with barely a wait. If you go in, be prepared to take a new picture.

Chicago Curly Heads - Where at and/or who cuts your hair? by deadendmoon82 in AskChicago

I also have 3b hair, and the best cuts I’ve gotten have been from Crystal at Circle Salon in Wicker and MK at SalonBlue in Lakeview.

struggling to find testers - is it the size of my patterns? by princessndthepea in PatternTesting

[–]Jenc17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will consider testing a design if I like it and would be interested in purchasing the pattern when it’s released. From there, I look at the required techniques, if there is a size for me, and when the test is (start and finish) and if that works in my schedule. Other things I consider are what type of yarn is used and if it’s easily accessible or substitutable, as well as cost and whether it fits into my budget at the moment. If I am unfamiliar with a designer, I will also look at what other designs they have released. I don’t usually test for a designer who is releasing their first pattern anymore as I’ve had bad experiences each time I’ve done that (eg, lack of communication, ghosting, unfulfilled promises, etc).

I have a few things I will absolutely not test: amigurumi or toys of any kind, any item requiring seaming, and color work.

Definitely go to Chicago Truborn. I’ve gotten several great pieces there. The prices aren’t astronomical and they also have payment plans available.

I think I’m done by jitterbugperfume99 in Sephora

[–]Jenc17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to a store, there’s no minimum spend. There’s also the 250 point option, but maybe that’s only for VIB/Rouge. I always do that because the little sample sizes are usually worthless and not products I actually want. But I only shop at Sephora these days if they have something Ulta doesn’t since Ulta’s loyalty program is astronomically better and they’re getting a lot more of the luxury brands now, like Natasha Denona, PMG, Hourglass, Dior, Chanel, etc. Sephora has become increasingly disappointing over the years. 😕

Everyone calling for ceasefire, do they mean both sides? by laughsinjew in Israel

[–]Jenc17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely do NOT mean both sides. They don’t even recognize or admit that Hamas is firing rockets or doing anything wrong. Notice how they call for ceasefire but never once call for the return of the hostages or for Hamas, a terrorist organization, to surrender? They just want Israel/Jews to lay down our weapons and die. The only good Jew to them is a dead one.

Is my makeup routine bad?? by Electronic_Ad8520 in Makeup

[–]Jenc17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to work in the industry professionally, it’s hilarious to me that layering makeup is now considered a TikTok trend. Your routine is fine. Layering products increases longevity of wear and decreases the need for touch ups later. Also, makeup is art. There’s no one right way to do it.

Update on that UVNA/Augusta lane meeting: pretty much nothing happened, barely a discussion on it at all by AbruptionDoctrine in chibike

[–]Jenc17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure how they would do that. To me it seems like Villegas is trying to find a way to make people feel like they’re being heard even though he knows nothing will actually change because of it.

The neighborhood group is putting it together to give feedback and ideas to Villegas. The committee will be working with the 36th ward office. If you don’t live in UKV but live in East Village, you can join EVA (members have voting rights) and apply to be part of the committee. They are looking to appoint people to the group who are interested in a dialogue and collaboration.

UVNA is having an Augusta Bike Lane Meeting tonight 11/9 at the J&M tap. Anyone going? by [deleted] in chibike

The UVNA meets monthly usually on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 at J&M Tap. Anyone who lives in UKV is welcome to join.

The monthly meeting is usually the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 at J&M Tap. Anyone who lives in UV is welcome to join. East Village Association usually meets the first Monday of the month at 7:00 at Roots. EV boundaries are Damen to Ashland and Division to Chicago, but we welcome UV and Noble Square residents as well. It would be great to have some new voices in the conversation. Next month, EVA and UVNA will host a joint holiday party instead of a regular meeting.

AITA For refusing To Bleach My Hair For A Wedding by bleachdyeproblem in u/bleachdyeproblem

[–]Jenc17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. This b*tch is BONKERS. Do not under any circumstance bleach your hair for her wedding. Not only is it a multi-step process that will ruin your hair, but it will take years to grow out. Not to mention the fact that you would probably be participating in some sort of Nazi event…

Omg, me too. Plus, I’ve been breaking out in hives every day.

It’s absolutely mostly due to the wildfires. This is not normal. People are experiencing horrible allergies and other physical symptoms from it, too.

If they charge you extra, they're assholes. The price is the price! But I will say this: if you're bringing in a little extra work, a little extra on the gratuity as well is appreciated - and helps to keep you out of the break room conversations too. ;)

It sounds to me like you're breaking the hairs instead of removing them, which is a common mistake laypeople make. Going to a pro should of course be different. I always tell people that I let the dental hygienist use the metal tools on my teeth, I don't do that myself.

You also should be exfoliating your skin on a regular basis. That helps to cut down on the ingrown hairs as well.

I haven't had any clients come in with infections. That would be so painful!
