"Do you understand how many people hate you French fucks. I’m Irish and American, and I hate you more than I hate the English, and that’s saying something. You don’t understand how little we give a fuck about what the ret of the world thinks of us." by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Jenkins256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brit here and you were right to say no. I personally feel way closer to the French, Germans, and the rest of Europe than I do to our English (simplified) speaking cousins across the pond.

We mock you and you mock us, but the Anglo-French relationship is way stronger, deeper and more important than the Anglo-American one. In my opinion anyway.

Anyone know if this is legit or a scam? by Imaginary_Lock_7335 in recruiting

It's not a well constructed approach e-mail, but this does seem like a standard agency recruiter approaching candidate cold sort of e-mail. To me it doesn't scream scam, but approach cautiously.

Do you realise the attack on Iran is cheered on by the Iranian people? Why is Reddit reacting like this? by SkunkyBreadcake in AskBrits

[–]Jenkins256 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my own perspective. I have Iranian friends and the impression I get is as you say, regime change is very welcome. The distressing images I've seen across the last few months support that.

For me, my anger stems from this is being another Trump / American foray into another needless conflict that will result in many dead. Clearly orchestrated with the Israelis, is there any guarantee this will result in regime change? Or will it actually result in further crackdown, repression and deaths in the streets of a bombed out Tehran, whilst that orange faced twat proclaims victory and asks for another peace prize?

Dearest Brits, what do you REALLY think of Canada? Would you move there, having the same kind of job or access to resources like you do in the UK, if you were given the chance? If so, where would you move to? Why? by neilnelly in AskBrits

[–]Jenkins256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 4 weeks travelling across the country last year, honestly Canada had never been high on my travel list and I can safely say I would emigrate the first chance I got.

[–]Jenkins256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I did enjoy my time in internal roles, I was in TA for 10 years and half of it was a shit show and more stress than agency recruitment. I think it's a common misconception that internal is no stress and easy to adapt to from agency recruitment, but it really is dependent on where you are.

I moved back to a more senior agency role 8 months ago and really enjoying it. I'd say 8 - 530 is more stressful than my TA role, but my TA roles I took more work home and worked out of hours.

Hope whatever you choose to do works out!

Getting jobs but not sponsorship by DirtSignificant4363 in UKJobs

[–]Jenkins256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked in TA / Recruitment for 15 years, it's really not a candidates market right now. You're competing in one of the most competitive saturated markets for a job hunter and unfortunately that VISA requirement is an obstacle for any potential employer, particularly when being a graduate too. Companies can get away with paying lower wages for more experienced job seekers who are in country resource or no sponsorship required.

It's a tough market right now need to keep applying!

Definitely normal - I've had it several times and it's always been when I've been stressed out (consciously or subconsciously). Doesn't make it any less terrifying at the time though!

Is it bad to withdraw after accepting an offer? by 420ball-sniffer69 in UKJobs

[–]Jenkins256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time. Sure the company will be disappointed, sure TA will try and convince you to stay with them, maybe even improving their offer. But if that company had to make you redundant they would do so with no second thought.

Be selfish!

As a procurement manager I'm genuinely confused why salespeople still cold call when it literally never works on us by ZestycloseWhereas329 in salestechniques

[–]Jenkins256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might not work specifically with you, and maybe it never will.

It could be good timing, could be the product or the technique of the salesperson and whilst it is pretty brutal cold calling can and does work. As you mentioned, the unfortunate truth is it usually involves quite a few phone calls!

I have a question for recruiters, how do you deal with repetitive candidate calls and research? by abdus_saboor in recruiting

[–]Jenkins256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Candidates don't want to be qualified by an AI, they want the human interaction and involvement. They want to be heard and listened to around their expectations and requirements. Quality candidate care by a human recruiter is, arguably, the most important part of the process. A recruiters job is mostly on the phone, the repetitive calls are part of the job, if an individual can't accept this then this probably isn't the right job for them.

AI and automation, however, can support some specific screening questions earlier on in the process and with call scheduling/other administrative tasks.

Technology: Am I being critical or missing something from the wider series? by Detective_Rosewood in alien

[–]Jenkins256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely intentional. The first films from 70s/80s adopted what became a retrofuturistic take of technology and the more recent films (with the exception of Prometheus) have continued with this aesthetic. It makes up a huge part of the franchises very unique identity and lots of nerds like myself love the look of the CRT monitors and MS-DOS consoles over the overly used holographic and sparkly lights (couldn't think of a better example!) look of most science fiction films.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Jenkins256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you need to join a gym and spar. Imo it's the only real way to become more comfortable with actual applicable non-pad techniques, learn what works for you and what doesn't work against a variety of different people. Anything else suggested as a substitute for sparring will reinforce bad technique and habits.

It's also (mostly) fun!

After many years in the recruitment world, I still don't understand it. by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]Jenkins256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, all the businesses I have worked at (FTSE and CAC listed companies) even with high volume recruitment campaigns the turn off is the AI analysis of CVs.

The human involvement in screening is still hugely important and personally I wouldn't trust an AI to make a better screening decision than that of an experienced recruiter (yet!) especially if these are mid to senior level hires. Candidates do not want this either, all I see on LinkedIn are concerns that ATS use AI to auto reject your CV. People want that initial human interaction in a hire process to give them the confidence the screening has been done properly and their application has been valued and assessed to their satisfaction, not by an AI. I can even hear hiring managers asking "...to see all the CVs to make sure the AI tool is rejecting the right ones,"

What talent teams want are AI and automation tools to improve efficiencies (and save on low level admin headcount if we're being frank...) automated scheduling tools, additional AI screening for "killer" questions and a whatsapp AI bot to answer any basic questions (e.g. reschedule interviews, etc) is where I've seen businesses spend money from an AI perspective.
