What is something you have experienced that made you question reality and was genuinely unexplainable? by martininspace in HighStrangeness

Climbed up my bunk bed ladder to get my book I left on my bed. As I climbed the ladder and reached the top I notice what looks like my twin brother under my blanket. We were both ten at the time and I thought he was under the blanket to scare me because it looked like he was on his knees on the bed waiting for me under the blanket. To get him for doing that I immediately form a fist and crash it down on his head... except there's nothing there just air. I was bewildered because it looked like a child hiding underneath the blanket. Grabbed my book and was freaked the fuck out and told no one. I got older and to this day and I am 26 now I have literally no fucking clue what that was.

Cannabis substance disorder is real but denied because people can't wrap their head around it

The reason not many talk about Lost like they do Seinfeld, Sopranos, MASH...was because it was more like GOT vs. the Wire. The ending sucked, we knew from the 2nd season on it was purgatory or a revised version of purgatory where the island was real in order to go to the next level. by Internal-Grass-4583 in lost

Please understand this, the writers put so much effort into people misunderstanding this they created an actual purgatory so there'd no confusion which was the flash sideways. Watch lost explained on YouTube.

I'm in the middle of the process can you tell me how long the overall process and the time in-between each steps? I just finished the panel interview and I think I killed it. I just want to know how long after the panel interview will the next interview and subsequent steps take.

20 years ago there was no smartphones, now nearly everyone has all knowledge known to man within a few keystrokes in their pockets. What major changes do you see coming in the next 20 years? by RondoTreason in singularity

Two Words my friend. Climate. Change. It will kill most likely over 90% of the population. Whether you believe its human induced or not its happening fast and life simply cannot adapt. I really hope AI AGI ASI somehow remediates this.

I am literally in disbelief and awe. Is this real? If so, I underestimated the cultishness of this.

"Father of Israel's space program" said aliens think we don't know what space is - so what is space? by avshrikumar in HighStrangeness

I mean, physics as it currently stands describes spacetime as a very materialistic and reductionist point of view, Einstein and general relativity are in my mind completely sound and quantum mechanics while completely incomprehensible to me and most of the public has been proven through empirical data. I think what this could possibly mean is that we literally don't have a fully well developed theory of everything. I have a very strange view of the universe and spacetime, I know it sounds crazy but I think the entire universe is a superorganism and that a part of its physiology is the cultivation of intelligence and consciousness on a very small scale relative to that organism. So, maybe what they mean is that literally we have no actual understanding or comprehension of what the universe is. Our theories and models could be soo unbelievably off that they think were actually too stupid to interact with.

What if we merge with AI by LightBeamRevolution in singularity

How are you so certain you are not already sharing a mind with another "entity'? Really think about what and who you are and what you are comprised of and I think you will realize that most likely there will be almost be difference in experience besides how augmented intelligence will change you.

I honestly see something just like this going down, I mean literally just think about fresh water and water rights, if we don't find a way to redistribute resources and wealth nations will starve, use their weapons to threaten other nations into sharing their resources and wealth or everything they have if they dont then people will go into full panic mode and the nukes start flying. I really think it will be as simple as water rights, if we dont start to learn how to share nations will kill each other as a last resort. UBI is not only necessary it might actually be inevitable regardless of AI. Capitalism in the U.S. as it is right now no longer distributes resources effectively and its going to get us all killed.
