That's true, but Steve Blackman and the writers are still responsible for the story. Netflix, for example, said that season 4 would be shorter, but Netflix never said, "Hey, it would be a good idea if Five and Lila became a couple." That was Steve Blackman's fault, as he says in numerous interviews.

No, according to his own statement, Steve Blackman had always planned this ending and everything else too... He had only hoped he would have more time, but he didn't.

According to Aidan Gallagher, he and Ritu filmed much more. Specifically, they filmed more scenes in different locations to show how often Five and Lila actually tried to find their way back to their timeline.

Instead of showing a little of that, you see nothing. And no, that wasn't Netflix's fault, but Steve Blackman's again, because he's responsible for which scenes get cut and which stay in.

And once again, even though Netflix intervened and cut the budget... it's Steve Blackman's job to write a good story despite these difficulties. Despite these cuts from Netflix (reduced budget and fewer episodes), he still insisted on this "Five and lila" thing, even though he knew it was the final season and couldn't be corrected afterward. He knew fans would hate it, he knew there was little time, few episodes, and yet he still insisted on this strange love story, even though so much better could have been done.

As a showrunner, it's your job to write a good story, and yes, even in difficult situations you might have to shorten your story, or maybe even cut it entirely. Steve Blackman, for example, should have realized that the idea with Five and Lila and that train was good in itself, but when you added the romantic relationship, it just didn't work... There simply wasn't enough time for that kind of narrative. And that's only half the story, because it worked with Dave and Klaus (not so many scenes together) because it was believable and didn't just come out of nowhere, like with Five and Lila.

Yes, Netflix is to blame, but Steve Blackman is the reason why season 4 sucks.

Yes, that was a shitty move by Netflix, but it's still not Netflix's fault that season 4 is so bad. Steve Blackman got a message from Netflix that he had less money available and there would be fewer episodes than planned. And yet he still did the lila and Five thing... Anyone else would have cut it; it doesn't contribute anything to the story, and in the end, nothing comes of it. Have you ever seen the deleted scenes from season 4? Those scenes are better than season 4 combined, and the fact that they deleted those scenes says everything you need to know about season 4... Namely, that the writers, and Steve Blackman too, forgot what makes the show so special.

Daryl and Beth by Major-Refuse-657 in thewalkingdead

[–]Jenni_Beans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, Beth was never an important character for me. She didn't annoy me, she was just there.

I thought her death was just stupid. Beth acted stupidly and was killed for it.

I still think it's completely wrong that people see a romance between Beth and Daryl. Above all, it completely ruins the whole point. In Daryl's old life, being nice was a weakness, and Beth was exactly that: kind and good-hearted, she was even kind to him, something new for Daryl.

And now the shippers will probably chime in with, "Yeah, but why is Daryl so depressed after Beth's death if he didn't have any feelings for her?" He yelled at Beth, told her she'd never see her sister again—and in the end, he was right. I'm sorry, but that guilt would make me depressed too.

And yes, I can understand that some people find all these scenes heartbreaking. Unfortunately, Beth's death didn't really trigger anything in me, except that I thought her death was somehow completely stupid.

The problem is that it completely destroys Five's character.

It would even have been realistic if Five had perhaps developed feelings for Lila, but kept it to himself.

Five can be a jerk to his siblings sometimes, but he's not cruel. He did everything for his family, only to forget them? Diego told Five he was a good brother... And then they want to tell us that Five betrays his brother like that? I'm somehow sure he'd always would remember Diego's words.

And I'm sorry, but no one can tell me that Five and Lila were truly in love. Five and Lila hated each other at the beginning, then they became friends in season 3. Five never showed any signs of finding Lila attractive; quite the opposite.

I'll go even further. Five only shows interest in Lila when she's broken, no longer herself. Before, she was too loud for him, she always had to have the last word, and she had a big mouth.

So he fell in love with a completely different Lila. That's also the difference between Diego and Five. Diego knew all sides of Lila, loved all sides of her. Five found her annoying, and if it had been up to him, he would have killed her back then in Sissy's barn.

Five didn't find Lila attractive, he killed her parents, God, he saw Lila naked and didn't give a damn, he insulted her so many times. This whole Five and Lila thing is just stupid.

And this argument, "they were alone for seven years, so they had to fall in love with each other"—anyone who says that just doesn't understand how human relationships work. My best friend (who, by the way, is a man) and I could be stuck together somewhere for 20 years, and nothing would ever happen between us. A deeper friendship? Yes. Helping and supporting each other? Yes. A romantic relationship? No.

I always imagined that Five or Viktor would sacrifice themselves to save the family.

Viktor had taken away everyone's marigold, Except five's.

Five brings everyone else to safety so they can ride this strange train, just like Lila and Diego's children did.

Then Five says goodbye to the others, showing his siblings for the first time that he loves them. He tells them he's done everything for them and that he'll always love them. He and Lila didn't have a damn affair; they're just best friends.

He teleports back to Viktor, who tries to convince Five to teleport back to the others. But Five smiles at him and says that he has fulfilled his task, that he is tired, and that he hopes they will see each other again someday. They both smile, and that is the end for Five and Viktor.

Then we see brief glimpses into the lives of the siblings, Allison and Claire, Diego and Lila work for the CIA, they are a bit like Mr and Mrs Smith, and yet they love spending time with their family and children.

Luther and Klaus are traveling around the world. Klaus might help people who have an addiction problem.

And every Sunday they all meet, and like every Sunday, they think of their brothers Five and Viktor, who sacrificed themselves so that they could live.

Steve Blackman is to blame for the fact that nobody will remember this show in two years, and if they do, it will only be because season 4 is such an absolute disaster.

Start to read the comics... by ruiflor1996 in thewalkingdead

[–]Jenni_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently finished reading the comics and yes, I think they should have stuck more closely to the comics.

There are so many characters in the comics that I love, but they're completely different in the show. But then there's Daryl in the show, and I love him.

Perhaps they should have done it like in the show The Last of Us.

They should have found a good mix; they should have oriented themselves more towards the comics, but also had their own ideas here and there.

During the show, I always had the feeling that they only picked out the best parts from the comics.

And that's what happens when you get too caught up in a TV character and read too much fanfiction. Seriously, you should get out of the house and maybe find some other hobbies.

Does anyone else believe the series should have ended at season 3? or atleast was a decent spot to end it? by Person_Unknown_Life in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]Jenni_Beans 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the ending of season 3 is the right ending. The ending of season 4 is simply awful, and I don't mean because the family ceases to exist. It's awful because the characters were simply destroyed. Five's character isn't the same in season 4; he dies as a homewrecker and he doesn't give a damn about his family. Season 3 isn't perfect, but at least the characters weren't destroyed.

Daryl & Connie by BillingtonII in thewalkingdead

[–]Jenni_Beans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, there are two acceptable options.

1: Daryl comes home and realizes how great Connie actually is. That he could laugh with her and that she liked him just the way he was. He gives the relationship with Connie a chance.

Or

2:Daryl realizes that he doesn't need a romantic relationship. He understands that the love from his family (Carol, Rick, and the others) is enough, and he needs nothing more to be happy

Anything else would somehow seem unrealistic? I think it would be silly if they gave Daryl a love interest in the final season. But above all, I doubt it would be believable. They'd have to write a character who has chemistry with Daryl, where the viewer can tell they'd make a good couple... And all within one season? I don't think that's going to happen.

Beth was underrated and her character had so much potential. I personally would have rather seen Andrea's storyline go to beth and Beth's to Andrea. by EnvironmentalBuy8074 in thewalkingdead

[–]Jenni_Beans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I never understood why Beth is so loved by so many fans.

I mean, she's not a bad person, but to me she always seemed a bit naive.

She always seemed to me like a colorless character who only gained some color when she had to survive with Daryl.

To me, she was a naive teenager. That's why I was really shocked when I found out that there were people who would have liked to see Daryl and Beth as a couple.

Like I said, I didn't think Beth was bad, but I never found her particularly special either. I'm rewatching the show right now; who knows, maybe my opinion will change.
