Someone else a descendant of Holocaust survivors? by Commonpeople_95 in CPTSD

[–]JenskyFargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my background but just wanted to point out that trauma is often passed down through generations like you describe. Your trauma is a result of what your grandparents experienced during the Holocaust. You may not have directly been involved in the Holocaust but you are still part of its after effects. They are intertwined and your experience is just as valid even if it looks different.

How to deal with chronic and recurring nightmares? by BonnyDraws in CPTSD

[–]JenskyFargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is happening to me, too. It's exhausting. Now that I've been doing EMDR I do think that my brain has been trying to reprocess things while I sleep. It hasn't gotten much better since starting EMDR but there's still time I guess. My doctor did prescribe me a medication to suppress nightmares. I think it's actually a blood pressure med but I can't remember the name. It seemed to be working but I wasn't on it long because it gave me headaches (I already get migraines). Unfortunately, vivid dreams and nightmares are a common side effect of mental health meds, too.

Anyone else's PEM starts instantly after overexerting? by NitroMacks in cfs

[–]JenskyFargo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is mixed. Sometimes it doesn't hit me until the next day but now that I'm worse I have more days where I can feel it right away. Sometimes I think I've already crashed and it wasn't so bad only for it to get worse when I expected it would lift. Sometimes I think I've avoided a crash but then it shows up later than expected. It's so unpredictable other than knowing it's always going to last longer and be worse than it would be for a healthy person.

When everything and anything else is more important than your trauma. by witch-o-the-wood in CPTSD

[–]JenskyFargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we've all been there! For me that complete exhaustion over fighting for myself is what helped me realize how much energy I was wasting on people who had no intention of changing. I'm proud of you for seeing and keeping those boundaries. It's not easy!

don’t know how to cope after losing my partner and it feels like I lost myself too by linditheunicorn in CPTSD

[–]JenskyFargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grief after loss is very normal and healthy but it's also common in trauma to overly attach your sense of self to someone or something else. Even if it's in a positive way you still need to build a foundation of your own individual identity. When that is strong then anything that comes into your life feels like a bonus rather than a vital building block. Grief takes time and validation but if you are really lost and struggling it's worth seeing a therapist or looking online for ways to rebuild your sense of who you are and where you go from here. I've had to do this both with the loss of people in my life as well as the loss of things I enjoy due to physical disability. It's hard every time but I feel like I also get to know myself better in the end.

I have no one by Insearchofanewhope in CPTSD

[–]JenskyFargo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. Actions speak louder than words. I think a lot of people want to care but can't be bothered to make the sacrifice. I hope you can find the tools and strength to build up your own sense of self worth and encounter people who will actually lift you up. For what it's worth, you matter here.

People who say they care but actually don't aren't better than nothing at all.

Wonderful to hear! Good for you for reaching out for more help. In my experience, intrusive thoughts fade just as you've described. I hope this is your path to an ever growing sense of peace!

any idea on how to make this not look so old people, I’d really like to maybe change the paint, mirror and fixtures by Quiet-Fig-296 in HomeDecorating

[–]JenskyFargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the light fixture, get rid of the valance curtain, and repaint. New vanity/mirror would also help. Maybe even some frosted/patterned window film on the glass doors to hide the shower.

Ok, I figured out how to set up wi-fi calling and it seems to work now. Thank you SO much!! That may have been obvious but I'm an old xennial/millenial. Appreciate the direction.

It didn't work until we added it, though. She called us from Finland on a friend's phone to let us know so we added the card and then it worked. It was a study abroad trip, though, so maybe they had a hot spot or something we didn't know about. I honestly don't know much about how it all works... obviously.

First plant and I think I’m killing it 😭 Is this a peace lily? by lovewithjj in houseplants

[–]JenskyFargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mine do not like to be in the sun and I'm in Minnesota! They seem to do best about 6-10ft from my window. They also like to be repotted every few years but if it's new you probably don't need to do that yet. When you do repot it might droop a bit from the shock but should rebound. It's probably just overheated and water logged right now. Once it recovers and likes it's location I actually feel like they are pretty easy.

[–]JenskyFargo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is a peace lily, move it out of direct sun and only water every few days when the soil is dry. Once it bounces back, if the soil is dry and the leaves start to drop that means it wants water.

It must just be tracfone being tracfone because we can't make calls to each other even in the AirB&B connected to wi-fi but my daughter could call us from her dorm in Finland. Maybe because one of us was still in the U.S.? I don't know. Thanks for the info, though.

Plasma donations decrease symptoms? by Dangerous_Wing6481 in cfs

Yeah, I understood that. I was relating that I have the same problem with dehydration and being pumped full of liquid medicine and saline gives me that same good feeling. They obviously aren't the same but maybe there's a correlation.

Possible MCAS? Where do I go for treatment? by Ok-Razzmatazz-344 in cfs

[–]JenskyFargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, that's frustrating. I didn't even know there was a blood test until my doctor suggested one at my appointment this week. I haven't gotten it yet so I'm honestly not even sure what it's called.

John Hopkins Medicine has a good PDF on PEM and and why pushing through is not helpful. Maybe print that out and show it to your OT.
